Week 6 Predictions

SN Iyer (Lions at Jaguars:  The Lions are playing for more than just pride as Matt Patricia's job hangs in the balance based on how they perform after the bye. Look for the Lions to feature more of D'Andre Swift in the running game and Matthew Stafford can pick apart a shaky Jaguars defense that is further breaking because of injuries. Gardner Minshew will come up with some gritty answers, even if he's without D.J. Chark. You could flip a coin between Honolulu Blue and Teal 100 times and both teams would lose 50 times. Let's roll with the Leos as the bigger cats.  Pick:  Lions win 27-24):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-picks-predictions-week-6-spreads-packers-cowboys-bears/1s7wgadadnn7514xttzdbrwnwx

SN Bender (Detroit Lions (-3.5) at Jacksonville Jaguars:  This game appears to have more implications for the 2021 NFL Draft than anything else. The Lions had a bye week to shore up the protection around Matthew Stafford, but Detroit must squeak out another one-score victory on the road.  Pick: Lions 26, Jaguars 21):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-picks-predictions-week-6-steelers-browns-chiefs-49ers/1m0515d2h3scc1x1fx676ozkzn

CBS Prisco (Detroit Lions (-3.5) at Jacksonville Jaguars:  Matthew Stafford isn't putting up big numbers, but that will change against Jacksonville. The Jaguars have major issues on defense and Stafford will light them up. The Jaguars will also be able to move the ball and score some points. This will be a high-scoring game, but it's the Lions who will win it.  Pick: Lions 36, Jaguars 28):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/pete-priscos-nfl-week-6-picks-bills-bounce-back-to-stun-chiefs-steelers-cool-off-rival-browns/

CBS Brinson (Detroit (1-3) at Jacksonville (1-4):  The Lions are better than 1-3, are coming off a bye, have a very good passing offense and are playing against the worst defense in football. The Jaguars can't stop anyone and don't have a whole lot of efficiency when it comes to their red zone performance and/or their kicking game. Gardner Minshew should be able to pass in this game -- the Lions aren't good on defense either -- but I'll take the better quarterback and the better team here laying the points. If Matt Patricia blows another double-digit lead he might be looking for a job.  The Pick: Lions 35, Jaguars 31):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-6-picks-odds-browns-shock-steelers-bears-win-titanstexans-engage-in-shootout/

Lions vs. Jaguars preview (4 pick the Jaguars to win by scores of 24-21, 33-30, 17-13, 24-21.  2 pick the Lions to win by scores of 21-19, 24-20):  https://www.nfl.com/videos/lions-vs-jaguars-preview-week-6

NFL.com Rosenthal (Jacksonville Jaguars 31, Detroit Lions 28:  The Jaguars are the NFL's slumpbusters. Three straight winless teams have topped them and every opposing quarterback has enjoyed his best game of the season against their pass rush-deficient defense. For most 1-3 teams, that would represent a grand opportunity. For the Lions, it sounds more like a recipe for maximum pain. Both teams struggle to generate big plays, but I still trust the Jaguars' running game and timing of the passing game a bit more. Matt Patricia survived the bye, but will that stay true if he didn't come up with any defensive solutions during the time off?):  https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-week-6-game-picks-buccaneers-top-packers-steelers-edge-browns

USA Today (4 pick the Jaguars to win by scores of 30-27, 21-18, 28-25, 26-20.  3 pick the Lions to win 30-24, 25-21 and 20-18):  https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2020/10/15/usa-today-week-6-nfl-picks-predictions-packers-buccaneers/3663156001/

PFT (Lions at Jaguars - MDS’s take: The Lions’ defense has struggled to protect leads all season, and I see it happening again, with Detroit taking an early lead but Gardner Minshew leading a Jaguars comeback.  MDS’s pick: Jaguars 21, Lions 20.  Florio’s take: The Jaguars have become the ultimate tonic for a struggling team. If Detroit can’t beat Jacksonville with two weeks to prepare, they should move across the border and join the CFL.  Florio’s pick: Lions 24, Jaguars 17.):  https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/10/15/pfts-week-six-picks-11/

Five things to watch: Lions at Jaguars (Prediction: Lions 27, Jags 24.):  https://lionslowdown.com/2020/10/17/five-things-to-watch-lions-at-jaguars/

NFL RealGM (Detroit Lions at Jacksonville Jaguars (+3.5): Two of the NFL’s most inept defense square off in Duval in a game that was supposed to be played in London. More to the point, I was supposed to be in London covering the game. Instead of being in soggy, grey London I’ll be watching from soggy, gray Grand Rapids. At least I’ll see a lot of points. The Lions should score more of them, especially coming off a bye week. I’ll take Matthew Stafford throwing with no pressure to Kenny Golladay and T.J. Hockenson over Garnder Minshew targeting D.J. Chark and James Robinson while having enough time to spell Tottenham forward and backward in the pocket. One but of insurance on the Lions front: the Jaguars have been the worst at field goals this year, making a close game that much tougher to win. Even against a Detroit team that is historically inept at holding leads.  Lions 36, Jaguars 34):  https://football.realgm.com/analysis/3295/Football-Meteorology-For-NFL-Week-6

5 Questions with John Shipley of SI JaguarReport (I think the Lions win, 27-23, in a game that features inconsistent offenses, sloppy turnovers and a few explosive plays.):  https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/lions-5-questions-with-john-shipley-si-jaguarreport

O'HARA'S FINAL THOUGHTS: Defense looks to get more turnovers (My pick: The Lions' offense is the dominant unit in this matchup. It should carry the day and the game for the Lions.  Prediction: Lions 37, Jaguars 20.):  https://www.detroitlions.com/news/o-hara-s-final-thoughts-defense-looks-to-get-more-turnovers-collins-oruwariye
