The Lions did battle back, but it wasn’t enough. It is difficult to find areas of this team that Detroit should be happy or comfortable with. Last week: 25): So, here’s Lions head coach Matt Patricia trying to explain how his team became the first in NFL history to lose six straight games in which the losing team had a double-digit lead at any point in the game. “I really don’t think it’s the same thing over and over,” he said after a 35-29 loss to the Saints in which the Lions had a 14-0 lead before everything predictably fell apart. “If you want to break it down, Chicago obviously was the end of the game, where we didn’t do a good enough job. I think Green Bay was obviously the halftime swing, and we never really recovered. This game, I thought we obviously jumped out early, but it was so early in the game, in the first quarter, I think after that we didn’t play very well in the middle of the game and then came back at the end of the game and battled and gave ourselves a chance. Obviously, we didn’t come through.” Obviously. It didn’t matter that the Lions had New Orleans’ man coverage on the ropes with that 14-0 start; the Saints scored five touchdowns on five straight drives against Detroit’s even worse man coverage. The only game Detroit has won this season came in Week three when they played more zone coverage and picked off three Kyler Murray passes. So, of course, Patricia regressed to form. As to the longer-term answers, there’s this. Well, Patricia’s record with the Lions is now 10-25-1. Jim Caldwell, Patricia’s predecessor, put up a 36-28 record in four seasons. The Lions would have to go 26-2 in their next 28 games for Patricia to beat Caldwell’s record after four full seasons. Yeah, that’ll happen. Oh, and Matt?
