2022 NFL Draft: Top 10 overrated and underrated players (Overrated - Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati: The first things scouts mention about Ridder are that he is a winner and has the maturity of a longtime NFL veteran. To be successful in the NFL, however, accuracy counts even more than intangibles. This is not to suggest that Ridder cannot improve his accuracy. He has tightened up his throwing motion throughout the offseason, throwing the ball with greater placement and rhythm at the Senior Bowl, combine and his pro day than he did at Cincinnati. Perhaps that will continue in the NFL. Too many of his passes on tape, however, were "ballpark" tosses that were close enough for his receivers to catch but limited their run-after-catch potential. I’m buying Ridder on Day 2, but the early-first-round talk is simply too rich for my taste. Ridder checks in at No. 42 overall on my Big Board, and I’ve had to justify that lofty rating with some of my NFL scouting buddies.) NFL Draft bust candidates: Malik Willis, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Drake London and the riskiest picks in 2022 (There are other quarterbacks that could sneak into the first round as well. Desmond Ridder has been rising in mock drafts. He won a lot as a four-year starter in college, but he doesn't have the biggest arm. Matt Corral could also sneak into Day 1. He's a gritty competitor, but he's small and has to improve his field-reading ability at the NFL level.) Schein: My 9 strongest draft takes ahead of Round 1 (6. Desmond Ridder is QB3 -- and a first-round pick: With how much quarterback money is (unsurprisingly) flying around this offseason, teams must consider the long-term ramifications of picks at the position. Anyone who's thinking of taking a quarterback in Round 2 should instead trade up into the last few picks of Round 1, thus securing the fifth-year option. It's a huge deal. So, which QBs could be in play in this range? I like Sam Howell and Matt Corral, but Ridder is my guy. Ridder just has "it." A four-year starter at Cincinnati, he guided the Bearcats to levels we've never seen before. Cincy went 44-7 over the past for years, for God's sake. I talked to him on my podcast a couple weeks ago, and the 22-year-old oozes intelligence and confidence. His athleticism, knack for the moment, arm and leadership make me think Alex Smith, and I loved Alex Smith. Ridder raved about Detroit coach Dan Campbell on my podcast; I could see the Lions pouncing with their second first-round pick (No. 32 overall). I also could envision Atlanta or Carolina trading back into the first round to grab Ridder, if they don't go quarterback in the top 10. Seattle and Pittsburgh could be in play, too. Whoever picks Ridder won't be disappointed.) (4-27-22): https://www.nfl.com/news/2022-nfl-draft-don-t-overthink-aidan-hutchinson-don-t-overlook-malik-willis-and-
NFL Draft: Meet the top four quarterback prospects in the class (Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati - Bio: Despite being ranked as the top QB in the state of Kentucky and one of the top-50 QB senior prospects in 2017, Ridder was considered just a two-star recruit by Rivals.com (he earned three stars from 247Sports.com). Undeterred, the Louisville native committed to Cincinnati where he became the Bearcats' starter as a redshirt freshman in 2018. It wasn’t until 2020, however, that Ridder began to draw national attention, earning AAC Offensive Player of the Year honors at the close of the season. He returned to Cincy for one last campaign in 2021 and put together a career effort. Ridder became the school’s all-time leading touchdown passer while en route to the College Football Playoff semifinals (where the Bearcats fell to Alabama). Pros: Above-average arm strength to effectively drive the ball downfield, high-end athleticism and rushing ability, fearless and determined when breaking tackles as a rusher, poised and confident in the pocket (particularly when in a rhythm). Cons: Erratic ball placement, passes lack touch, notable accuracy issues. NFL Comp: Marcus Mariota. Fantasy Fit: From Matt Ryan to Marcus Mariota to Desmond Ridder? It’s not the trajectory anyone would have predicted three months ago, but that’s the NFL (particularly in 2022). There’s a lot of overlap in skillset between Mariota and Ridder. Given the vet’s injury history (three games missed as a backup in 2021) a late-season surge courtesy of the rookie seems more probable than possible. Considering the 22-year-old’s underdog spirit and penchant for overcoming obstacles, I wouldn’t not bet on him. Keep an eye on Ridder’s progress. He may end up being the biggest surprise at the position for Superflex fiends.) (4-26-22): https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl-draft-meet-the-top-four-quarterback-prospects-in-the-class-150408593.html
Finding NFL player comparisons for the top 32 prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft (Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati (TSN: Marcus Mariota, Oregon (2015), NFL: Alex Smith, Utah (2005), RAS: Kordell Stewart, Colorado (1995)): By the time Ridder finished his career in Cincinnati, only Kellen Moore and Colt McCoy had more career wins than Ridder's 45. The Bearcats' signal-caller had accomplished the feat of helping lead Cincinnati to the College Football Playoff, the first time a non-Power Five team had ever been there. During that 2021 season, Ridder completed 64.9 percent of his passes for 3,334 yards with 30 touchdowns and only eight interceptions and rushed 110 times for 355 yards and six scores. Ridder is not a complete dual-threat, but he has plenty of mobility-- He posted a 4.52 40 time, 4.29 shuttle and 7.15 3-cone. Oregon's Marcus Mariota, who stood one inch and weighed 11 pounds more than Ridder at the 2015 NFL Combine, had the same 40 time, a 6.87 3-cone and 4.11 shuttle. Like Ridder, Mariota was praised for his ability to stay in the pocket when possible with the ability to roll out and do damage outside to escape pressure.) 2022 NFL Draft Position Rankings: Quarterbacks (3. DESMOND RIDDER, CINCINNATI (BIG BOARD RANK: 41): Ridder's four years at the helm of the Bearcats offense make him one of the most experienced passers in the class. 2022 NFL Draft Potential Busts: Offense (Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati: Some in the media have projected Ridder to be a first-round pick. While he has a good skill set with size, arm strength, and athleticism, he needs a lot of refinement as a pocket passer and must become more accurate for the NFL. Ridder could end up being a backup-caliber quarterback, and if he were to ends up an early-round pick, topping out as a backup would make him a bust.) 2022 Detroit Lions Draft preview: GM Brad Holmes faces huge decision at quarterback (Day 1/Early Day 2 options: Liberty’s Malik Willis, Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett, Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder, Ole Miss’ Matt Corral, North Carolina’s Sam Howell. Moving into Pick 32/34 territory, Ridder, Corral, and Howell are potential options if Detroit believes spending early draft capital on this draft class of quarterbacks is too rich for their blood. Ridder is an intriguing prospect that seems to be rising up draft boards late in the process. He has the athleticism that Willis brings, but doesn’t quite have the arm strength.) NFL comps for draft QBs: Corral next Jake Plummer? (Desmond Ridder
Cincinnati (PRO COMPARISON: Marcus Mariota, Atlanta Falcons OR Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans): To be clear, this is not suggesting that Ridder should or will be drafted as high as either of his comps were. However, Pro Football Focus shows he had the second-most big-time throws in the FBS this season with 82 and had the lowest turnover-worthy plays in a season since 2020 with 0.0. He was the only QB with 50-plus deep pass attempts and zero such plays. PFF shows that Ridder had 14 touchdowns and zero interceptions on deep passes in 2021, which was the second-most in a season since college tracking began in 2014. Computer Vision shows that Ridder's deep passing accuracy (how often the ball came within 3 feet of intended targets) improved the most among draft-eligible QBs over the course of the past two seasons. TEAM FIT: Atlanta Falcons. So you have the opportunity to learn from one player comp (Mariota) and a coach (Arthur Smith) who previously worked with both of Ridder's comps. NFL Mock Draft Stock Watch: Which players are rising and falling in experts' eyes in 2022? (The players who've risen into first round consideration (3) - Ridder has been a byproduct of the league’s obsession with young, inexpensive quarterbacks (and, to his credit, four very good, reliable seasons as a Bearcat). After being projected as a first rounder by only one of the seven March drafts selected for this exercise he’s currently a Day 1 pick on five different projections. He or Matt Corral, who we’ll get to later, will likely be the third QB selected.) (4-14-22): https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-mock-draft-stock-watch-players-rising-falling

Which 2022 NFL Draft prospects could sneak into the first round? (QB DESMOND RIDDER, CINCINNATI - 2021 grade: 90.7 (19th out of 293 QBs): The fifth-year option on a rookie contract is more valuable for quarterbacks than any other position, because if you hit on a franchise starter, then it buys you another year of avoiding market price. Ridder is a favorite among PFF analysts Anthony Treash and Seth Galina for his technique. He’s also one of the better athletes in this year’s class. The Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts are teams to watch for Ridder. Scout’s take: “Very good athlete. No standout traits like arm strength, accuracy or decision-making. Way better in 2021 than in 2020. Still wouldn’t put him above the top 5 QB draft prospects last year.”) (4-12-22): https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2022-nfl-draft-prospects-sneak-first-round
2022 NFL Draft quarterback rankings: Will Kenny Pickett or Malik Willis be drafted first? (3. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati: Ridder brushed aside every challenge he faced at Cincinnati to push the Bearcats into the College Football Playoff. Now the NFL looms. Over the course of his four-year career, his passing evolved from an efficient cog in the Bearcats offense to the kind of player who can run everything by himself. Nine of his top 12 performances, in terms of overall yardage, came between 2020 and 2021. That included the 297-yard, three total touchdown day that guided Cincinnati past Notre Dame in South Bend and into a historic postseason spot. Ridder is a high-floor quarterback whose college resume should make him a viable Week 1 starter for a needy team. His polished mechanics led to fewer zero-chance throws than anyone else in his cohort last season. That translates to setting his feet and delivering strikes under pressure as well as holding safeties off by staring down decoy targets before flipping and delivering a strike to an open wideout downfield. He pairs that with historically-fast quarterback speed — his 4.52-second 40-yard dash tied a Combine record at the position — and a willingness to take the ball upfield when confronted with an unwinnable situation in the passing game. He never finished a season with fewer than five rushing touchdowns at Cincinnati and is quick enough to outrun almost any pass rusher the NFL will throw at him. Like Matt Corral, he’s experienced in RPO schemes and identifies defenses well in order to find his open man. When he keeps the ball, he’s trouble. But his arm talent is merely average and his downfield accuracy leaves room for improvement. He doesn’t have the high-impact passing resume of Pickett or the extreme potential of Willis. He’s not going to wow scouts with perfectly-placed deep balls. He doesn’t have the arm strength to bail him out when he’s forced to throw without his feet underneath him. Still, Ridder is a very good quarterback capable of guiding an offense and minimizing mistakes. In the right setting, he could be a dual-threat nightmare to plan against.) Gets Cincinnati from the group of five into the playoff, so we know he's a great leader, we know he's a very good player. He's athletic, he ran the ball well. What doesn't get talked about enough is his ability to drive the ball down the field.") 2022 NFL Draft: The top 11 quarterbacks (3
Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati (Height: 6’1″ (12th), Weight: 211 (18th), 40-Yard Dash: 4.52 seconds (95th), Vertical Jump: 36 inches (95th), Broad Jump: 10’7″ (99th), 3-Cone Drill: 7.15 seconds (40th), 20-Yard Shuttle: 4.29 (60th)) Bio: In last year’s draft five quarterbacks found their way into the first round. Desmond Ridder was mentioned early in the process as a passer who could sneak in as the sixth, but he decided to return to campus for one final season with Cincinnati. He is probably glad he did, as he and the Bearcats earned a berth in the College Football Playoff. While Cincinnati lost to Alabama in the semifinals, Ridder leaves school as one of the most accomplished players in Bearcats history. He was twice named the AAC Offensive Player of the Year, and threw for 87 touchdowns and over 10,000 yards during his time on campus. Ridder also ran for 2,180 yards and 28 touchdowns while with the Bearcats. Stat to Know: Ridder’s progression as a passer is reflected in his NFL passer rating from season to season. What was an 82.5 mark during the 2019 campaign became a 105.2 mark in 2020, and 108.9 last season. Strengths: Similar to Pickett, Ridder’s experience makes him ready for the NFL game from a mental perspective. One of the better games to study for him is his outing against Houston in the AAC Championship Game. The Houston Cougars did a lot that night in terms of moving and rotating their safeties at the snap, but Ridder consistently made the right decisions with the football, either getting to his single-receiver matchups when the Cougars spun into single-high coverage, or working through concepts as necessary when Houston rotated into two-high looks. Another area that stands out is how well Ridder works through reads in the pocket, getting to that all-important backside dig route that has become almost a non-negotiable in the modern game. On this play against UCF, Ridder opens to the left first, and seeing the concept covered he gets his eyes then to the middle of the field, and finally to his fourth read, the backside dig route. In addition to what he can do with his mind, you can add in the athletic component. Ridder was a weapon with his legs during his time at Cincinnati, reflected in his rushing production. The 4.52 40-yard dash he posted at the Combine showed up on the field, particularly on runs like this one against SMU where you see that straight-line speed on designed plays. With his processing ability and athleticism, Ridder offers a strong foundation and floor as a passer while still offering room for growth and development. Weaknesses: The biggest knock on Ridder is accuracy and ball placement. This is something that shows up both on film, and in advanced metrics and charting. Pro Football Focus charted Ridder with an Adjusted Completion Percentage of 73.9%, which was 33rd among quarterbacks in the college game last season. There are two caveats to this discussion. First, Ridder’s ball placement issues seem to pop up early in games, and settle down over the course of the contest. This could be something that works out over time, as there is not a mechanical issue with his throwing motion that is to blame. Football players are human, after all (huge if true) and perhaps Ridder is working through some early jitters or excitement and just needs time to settle into games. Second, Ridder did show improvement in this area during his time on campus. On film there were more misses in 2019 and 2020 where the football was not where it needed to be, than there were on 2021. That growth is, in my opinion, a good sign for his development at the next level. Conclusion: Ridder offers an NFL team what you want to see from a mental perspective, with some athleticism to boot. You put those two traits together, and you have a very strong foundation for an NFL quarterback. His growth as a passer during his time on campus should not be ignored, and in the right offensive system you could see Ridder being a solid starting quarterback early in his career, with an opportunity to become more. Comparison: At the Combine, Ridder told the media that he modeled his game after Ryan Tannehill, and you can certainly see that on film. You also see shades of Marcus Mariota as well. When you start connecting dots, you might be led to the Atlanta Falcons, perhaps with their pick at the top of the second round… Resources: For more on Ridder you can dive into how his athletic ability will translate on Sundays in this video breakdown. You can also look at some of those spun safety looks he saw against the Houston Cougars in this breakdown.) Best scheme fits for the top 5 quarterbacks in the 2022 NFL Draft (DESMOND RIDDER, CINCINNATI BEARCATS: Like most quarterbacks on this list, you could plop Ridder into the 2021 Miami Dolphins‘ scheme with their heavy RPO use — especially downfield RPOs — and feel good about it. We can go a step further with Ridder, however, and see the Dolphins' use of full-field pass concepts as a good fit for the Bearcat quarterback, as well. Ridder is able to tie his feet and eyes to each progression in the concept and scan through a progression in a linear manner as well as anyone in the class. His eyes can find intermediate horizontal crossing routes on time with a clear picture of when they are or aren’t open. Ridder comes with accuracy concerns, but he can at least consistently find the routes, and if his accuracy doesn’t improve a touch, it doesn’t matter what scheme he plays in anyway.) Monson: Ranking the top six quarterbacks in the 2022 NFL Draft (2. DESMOND RIDDER, CINCINNATI: After Willis, the group really bunches up, and it’s tough to fall in love with any of the prospects. Willis is the only passer I would give a first-round grade to. Of course, quarterback is so important in today’s NFL that we will likely see more than one drafted in the first round. And I wouldn’t even necessarily criticize that decision, but it merely highlights the degree of risk involved with those picks and how much of a reach for need they may be. Ridder is an overlooked player in this class. Kenny Pickett gets talked about as the one quarterback who really enhanced his stock with an outstanding final year in college, but that applies to Ridder, as well. Ridder took his overall PFF grade, which had been static in the 70.0s for three seasons, to a 90.7 and Cincinnati into the college football playoffs. His performance against Alabama wasn’t good statistically (4.5 yards per attempt), but I actually came away impressed with how he executed given how his offense was overmatched. It’s also difficult to avoid being impressed with his pre-draft workout numbers, which proved he's a legitimate threat athletically. His 4.52-second 40-yard dash time placed him in the 95th percentile among quarterback prospects. Ridder’s accuracy isn’t always where you would like it to be — he just misses too many throws — but it’s an impressive level of play when it comes together.) 2022 NFL Draft Board: Quarterbacks (3. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati--There’s a lot to like about Ridder. A four-year starter who proved a very capable leader of men for the Bearcats, Ridder comes from a pro-friendly offense that has prepared him to make NFL reads and NFL throws against NFL coverages. He’s got good enough size and decent athleticism, proved he can take off when given a lane though he’s not an aggressive runner. His pocket movement is often very good, though there are lapses where he freezes up (see Tulane game). I like Ridder’s arm strength and his realistic confidence in it. He knows what he can do and what he can’t. His Cincinnati coaches played to that awareness. He doesn’t have a cannon and his release time from the moment he decides to throw to letting it leave his fingers is slower than ideal. He can alter his throwing platforms and footwork but it does impact his accuracy more than it does others. The accuracy isn’t pinpoint to begin with, though Ridder is almost never completely off-target. He will make his receivers work for some catches that should be easier. Will miss high over the middle at times and oddly misses very short throws often. The leadership, the maturity, the football intelligence are all exactly what coaches want. Ridder is competitive and inspires confidence amongst his teammates. If he’s capable of improving his accuracy and speed up his delivery, Ridder has the ability to be a good NFL starter. High-floor, medium-ceiling QB in the vein of Ryan Tannehill. Late 1st-early 2nd round.) (3-31-22): https://football.realgm.com/analysis/3449/2022-NFL-Draft-Board-Quarterbacks
Top 10 Quarterbacks in the 2022 NFL Draft: Malik Willis paces the field ahead of Kenny Pickett and Sam Howell (6. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati: When speaking of accuracy, Desmond Ridder isn’t quite the top quarterback on the list among the 2022 NFL Draft class. Yet, Ridder still finished his career as the third-winningest quarterback in college football history. Let that sink in for a bit. A four-year starter at Cincinnati, the Bearcats QB led his team to multiple double-digit winning seasons and a slew of school records along the way. Ridder’s physical profile is outstanding, and his athleticism is top-notch. His blazing fast 40-yard dash time at the Combine was just the tip of the iceberg. He’s a dominant athlete with the ball in his hands and excelled when plays broke down. Ridder could throw a dime 50 yards downfield while scrambling to his left with no trouble. But like all evaluations, there are things to work on. While Ridder showed some special traits in his game, he was unable to be consistently accurate to the short and intermediate levels of the field. That shortcoming is arguably his biggest, as his decisions and inaccuracy could plague him in the NFL.) Treash: Top five prospects at every position in the 2022 NFL Draft (With Ridder, it’s the fact that he’s the most NFL-ready quarterback in the class. He displayed high-level processing and executed the Bearcats’ pure passing concepts flawlessly this past season. The 6-foot-1, 211-pound quarterback showed an ability to get through his progressions and find the right receiver. He rarely made a bad decision, as evidenced by his FBS-leading nine games with zero turnover-worthy plays in 2021. Most will say Ridder’s accuracy is an issue, but it’s not nearly as bad as it’s made out to be. This past season, he ranked third among the seven top quarterback prospects in accurate pass percentage on throws beyond the line of scrimmage. He's not perfect, but his accuracy is not a liability. Ridder can deliver accurate and anticipatory throws. He’s risen up NFL boards into the first-round conversation after lighting up the Senior Bowl and combine, and he’s my top prospect at the position.) 5 perfect player-scheme fits; plus, QB pro day evals (QB Desmond Ridder: Don't sleep on Ridder's potential to surge up draft boards after scouts spend a little more time digging into the tape of his games and workouts. He possesses all of the traits that coaches covet in QB1s -- football IQ, athleticism, arm talent and a winning résumé -- while also having the impromptu playmaking skills to turn bad play calls into big plays. Following a strong combine performance that showcased his explosive athletic traits, the Cincinnati standout put on a solid throwing exhibition in front of coaches and scouts on Thursday. Ridder's accuracy and ball placement were on point. He displayed the requisite velocity to make big-time throws outside of the numbers, too. With the mobile passer also tossing darts on the move, he showed scouts that he could be an effective weapon in a movement-based passing game that features bootlegs and sprint-out plays. Overall, Ridder has crushed the pre-draft process. After leading the Bearcats to the first ever College Football Playoff berth for a non-Power Five team, he's earned high marks for his performances at the Reese's Senior Bowl, combine and pro day. Ridder might be the rare highly decorated QB prospect who has been underhyped leading up to the draft.) Cincinnati Pro Day 2022: Date, prospects, rumors, and more (Desmond Ridder, QB: Another Cincinnati prospect who had a good showing at the NFL Combine was quarterback Desmond Ridder. Although his performance wasn’t anything that we couldn’t have foreseen based on his tape, Ridder showcased his speed and explosive ability by leading all quarterbacks in the 40-yard dash and both vertical and broad jumps. On-field drills will be particularly important for Ridder to showcase his arm talent. There is no concern about his arm strength. Yet, the Cincinnati QB needs to show he can be consistently accurate.)(3-24-22): https://www.profootballnetwork.com/cincinnati-pro-day-2022-date-prospects-rumors-more/

Ten QBs worth pursuing via free agency/draft/trade (10. Desmond Ridder: As I wrote in the intro, I want to avoid speculating too much about veteran QBs who could be available via trade. Given that caveat, at this point in the list, QB-needy teams would benefit more from considering a young up-and-comer like Ridder over, say, Colts QB Carson Wentz. The Cincinnati product is a pure athlete who can excel outside of the Xs and Os and make throws in rhythm. Evidenced by his 4.52-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, Ridder can extend plays and forces defenses to account for his running ability. He had inconsistencies in big games at the college level, so there are still plenty of areas in which he can improve. But put Ridder in a decent position with talent around him, and he's more than capable of leading an offense at the NFL level.) NFL Combine 2022: Biggest winners and losers at every position (Winner: DESMOND RIDDER, CINCINNATI - You didn’t need the combine to know Ridder was fast, but for him to show up 211 pounds — four pounds heavier than his Senior Bowl measurement — and still test well was a win for him. His 4.52-second 40-yard dash, 36-inch vertical and 10-foot-7 broad jump are all tremendous figures.) (3-8-22): https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-combine-2022-biggest-winners-and-losers-at-every-position
NFL Draft prospects 2022: Biggest risers, fallers from every position after NFL Combine (Riser: Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati (6-3, 211 pounds): Ridder already had the experience and intangibles as the leader of the Bearcats College Football Playoff-worthy offense. He backed that up with great interviews and an athletic show. His arm is plenty strong enough with 10-inch hands, but dropping a 4.52 40-yard dash, 36-inch vertical jump and 7.15 3-cone drill were tremendous. He should be the third QB off the board in the first round behind Malik Willis and Kenny Pickett.) NFL draft: Winners and losers from the 2022 NFL scouting combine (Winners - Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder: We expected Ridder to test well, and he didn't disappoint with a 4.49-second 40, a 36-inch vertical and 10-foot-7 broad jump are indicative off a top-tier athlete. His athletic template is considered elite for a quarterback, and the 6-3, 211-pound Ridder even holds up when you compare his numbers to wide receivers. During his throwing session, Ridder displayed good rhythm and touch. In games, he doesn't consistently display precision, but his mechanics, ball placement and even arm strength were all pretty strong on Thursday. After a sluggish start to his Senior Bowl week, Ridder incrementally has improved his postseason performance. The first round might not be out of the question if teams are convinced that he can be a leader and clean up some of his likely fixable issues. He gives us some Marcus Mariota vibes.) 2022 NFL combine winners and losers: Ridder, Dawgs rise (Winners - Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati: With Liberty's Malik Willis opting out of athletic testing, Ridder was superior to all of the other quarterbacks who tested. When on-field work began, the Cincinnati product continued to look impressive. There were accuracy issues this season but some believe that it can be corrected with more consistent footwork in the pocket. If that is the case, there is no reason to believe a team may not be comfortable taking him in the first round. He certainly showed the arm strength capable of pushing the ball down the field. Ridder does not have the most commanding voice but he was very supportive of the other quarterback participants.) 2022 NFL Scouting Combine Winners and Losers by the Numbers: Offensive Positions (Desmond Ridder was the top projected quarterback coming out of the combine in terms of early career PFF WAR, followed by EJ Perry and Jack Coan. Ridder’s 69th percentile WAR prediction is good but not great, as it is hurt by a poor weight-adjusted three-cone drill. Only six quarterbacks completed enough drills for measurement, so pro-day performances will help complete a number of these prospects' athletic profiles.) 2022 NFL Scouting Combine: Risers and fallers following quarterback, wide receiver and tight end drills (Riser - Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati (40-yard dash: 4.52 seconds. Vertical jump: 36 inches. Broad jump: 10-foot-7): Ridder was easily the best athlete at the quarterback position in Indianapolis (Liberty's Malik Willis opted out of athletic testing). He posted some seriously athletic numbers that would make a wide receiver proud. He wasn’t featured as a runner as much as some others in the class but proved he can be a weapon in that regard at the next level.) Winners and losers from Day 1 of scouting combine drills (Winner: Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati: Ridder, who’s about in the middle of most quarterback lists in an iffy class, did the most he possibly could to separate himself at the combine. His 4.52 40-yard dash was the fastest among all quarterbacks (to be fair, Malik Willis didn’t run), and he aced the rest of his drills and the throwing session. Expect to hear Ridder’s name in the first round as an underrated quarterback both in and out of the pocket, and if he can clean up some of the variables in his throwing motion, he could have an Alex Smith plus-level impact at the next level.) 2022 NFL Scouting Combine: Malik Willis, Desmond Ridder, Sam Howell among quarterback winners and losers (Winners - Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati: Ridder was athletically superior to all of those that tested. When work on the field began, the Cincinnati product continued to look impressive. There were accuracy issues this season but some believe that it can be corrected with more consistent footwork in the pocket. If that is the case, then there is no reason to believe a team may not be comfortable taking him in the first round. He certainly showed the arm strength capable of pushing the ball down the field. NFL Combine results: 8 standouts from the quarterback group (Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati, 6-foot-3 1⁄2, 211: Ridder did have something to prove athletically and finished first in his position group in each of the following: 40-yard-dash (4.52), vertical jump (36-inches), and broad jump (10-foot-7). Beyond the measurables, Ridder also looked really solid in on-field drills. He was smooth all night, got the ball out of his hands quickly, and showed nice touch at all three levels. His footwork can get sloppy when he rushes, but he stayed within himself during drills and displayed the proper balance he needed to come away as one of the “winners” from Day 1.) What’s being said nationally after ho-hum QB class, speedy WRs hit field at NFL combine (Only two quarterbacks participated in the 40-yard dash. Desmond Ridder (Cincinnati) ran a 4.52-second 40-yard dash and hit 36 inches on the vertical jump to highlight that department. Malik Willis (Liberty) threw but did not run. Willis showed off his cannon while helping the receiver. The dual-threat gunslinger is an intriguing prospect for quarterback-needy teams. Willis is raw and the consensus seems to focus on him needing a season or two to develop. Still, his arm talent and ability to make plays on the run make him one of the most high-risk, high-reward prospects on the board.) NFL Combine takeaways: Malik Willis, Kenny Pickett, Desmond Ridder star in QB workouts for 2022 draft (Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati (6-3, 211 pounds, 10-inch hands): Ridder was ridiculous in the agility drills, with his QB-best 4.52 40 serving as the exclamation point. He has become a hybrid of Willis and Pickett. Ridder also left a great impression on teams in interviews with his intangibles, especially his maturity, which is natural for a seasoned college starter with his leadership qualities. Ridder didn't have the same "Wow" moments with his arm that Willis did, and he wasn't as accurate in making all the throws the way Pickett was. But he did more than enough overall to make himself the No. 3 QB on the board. Given the high number of QB-needy teams, Willis, Pickett and Ridder should all be gone by No. 20 overall, or when the post-Ben Roethlisberger Steelers pick.) NFL Scouting Combine 2022 results, takeaways: QBs, WRs and TEs run 40-yard dash, compete in drills (Quarterbacks demonstrate their arm strength - I don't take much from quarterback prospects throwing against air at the combine, but the conclusion of the evening was fun. Liberty's Malik Willis, Nevada's Carson Strong, Cincinnati's Desmond Ridder, and Pittsburgh's Kenny Pickett all let it rip down the field and dropped a few throws into the bucket 60-plus yards down the field. Prospects with the most to gain at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine for each position (Quarterback: DESMOND RIDDER, CINCINNATI - Beware of those peddling “risers” and “fallers” at the quarterback position over the course of combine week. These dudes are throwing against air to receivers they’ve probably never worked with For Ridder, though, it’s the athletic testing. He was utilized as a runner far more early in his career before scaling that back a touch with only 61 and 76 designed carries the past two seasons. A good day of testing will get NFL teams buying into him as a rushing threat in their offense.) (3-3-22): https://www.pff.com/news/draft-nfl-scouting-combine-prospects-most-to-gain-risers-2022

6 Quarterbacks for Lions to Watch at NFL Scouting Combine (Cincinnati's Desmond Ridder: Ridder doesn't project to be a top-tier passer at the next level, but he still possesses the necessary tools to be a quality NFL signal-caller. As The Pro Football Network's Cam Mellor writes, "Desmond Ridder is among the fastest players whenever he takes the field. He’ll run by defenders on the ground and navigate the pocket amongst the best in this class. Ridder also has terrific arm strength and keeps his receivers open with great eye movement. Where Ridder has a minor lapse, however, is concerning. The down-to-down accuracy for Ridder lacks at times. The inconsistent nature in which he’ll miss separating receivers has led to some squeakers for Cincinnati in 2021, despite their 13-0 record. Ridder’s inaccuracy may be concerning, but he possesses all the other tools necessary to be a quality NFL quarterback." If the Lions were to acquire an additional second-round pick and were to take the Cincinnati product with the selection, it wouldn't be all that bad for a Detroit team that is in need of an alternative solution to Jared Goff under center. ) (2-26-22): https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/six-quarterbacks-for-lions-to-watch-at-scouting-combine
2022 NFL combine: Detroit Lions staring down crowded group at top of this year’s ho-hum quarterback class (Desmond Ridder (Cincinnati): Last but not least of the top names is Desmond Ridder. He’s one of the most experienced quarterbacks in this year’s class that just happened to show noteworthy signs of growth with each passing season under center. Ridder has desirable size at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds too. He faces questions about the competition faced too. He’s lauded for his processing ability, the speed he plays the game and his standing as a leader, though. PFF dubbed him the best processor in the class while saying he already “plays at NFL speed mentally.” It’s hard to ignore a player who continues to get better with each passing year as Ridder has. It’s even harder to ignore an athlete with that type of arm or experience. He could be there at the end of Day 1.) Combine preview: 9 quarterbacks the Lions should be watching (Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati, 6-foot-3, 207. Suggested by Morgan. Ridder let the Bearcats to the College Football Playoffs this past season and has a terrific combination of size, athleticism, vision, and the ability to consistently improve from season to season. Decision making is a skill that needs improvement, as does his accuracy, but he can improve his stock if he shows improvement in the latter at the Combine.) 2022 Combine preview: Quarterback (5. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati, 6-3, 207: Some guys are just winners, and that's what Ridder has been the last four years for the Bearcats. Nothing physically about Ridder jumps off the page, but he wins and makes people around him better with his play style and leadership. Ridder is a technician at the position with terrific footwork, and it allows him to get through his progressions quickly and accurately. He led Cincinnati to the College Football Playoffs throwing for 30 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He threw 87 touchdowns in four seasons as a starter.) 2022 NFL Draft Stock - Post-Senior Bowl (Down - Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati: Ridder had some struggles at the Senior Bowl practice, taking some bad sacks, showing inconsistent accuracy, and looking like he had some issues reading the field. While Ridder has a quality skill set with arm strength and mobility, he needs a lot of work and development for the NFL. Ridder could end up being a mid-round pick who is a projected backup.) One thing learned about each QB at the Senior Bowl (Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati: Accuracy may or may not be an issue for Ridder depending upon who is talking. For some, like myself, it is a concern. He improved over the course of the week and certainly did nothing to hurt his case. His touchdown to interception ratio is not as staggering as Pickett's, yet TruMedia credits him with the same number of fumbles (36) as Pickett over the last four seasons. The Bearcat has been overlooked throughout his playing career and comes across down-to-earth. There is no doubt that he likely interviewed well with teams. Since sack rate is one metric used to compare these quarterbacks, Ridder is relatively middle of the road at No. 61 with 6.5%.) 2022 NFL Draft: Pros and cons for PFF's top five quarterbacks (2. DESMOND RIDDER, CINCINNATI BEARCATS (PFF Big Board Rank: 23) - PROS: Ridder is a quick processor. In fact, he might be the best in the class in this regard. He already mentally plays at an NFL speed. He has straight-line gas in the open field. Ridder is a big-play threat as a runner if he is unaccounted for Coaches rave about his work ethic and leadership. The former Bearcat has improved his weaknesses every year. CONS: Ridder has a slightly elongated throwing motion. There is a little dip in his cocking phase. Thin frame. He's not as elusive as others, which has led to high sack conversion rates. Ridder has beat up on bad competition. Additionally, he had a 70.6 passing grade against Power Five schools the last two years.) Desmond Ridder | Cincinnati: Ridder had a decent week of practice at the Senior Bowl, but capped it off with a strong performance in Saturday’s game, throwing a pair of touchdowns. Senior Bowl recap: analysis, standouts (Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati: Desmond Ridder arguably had the most to prove this week, and while he held his own during the week, on Saturday he made some of the throws we wanted to see. Yes, this looks easy, but he hit tight end Trey McBride in stride, allowing him to turn upfield and get into the end zone without having to readjust his body. It's a little thing, but it could also be the difference between a touchdown, a first down or winning and losing. Ridder came back in the second half with a similar throw on a similar play with similar results. Credit to tight end Jake Ferguson for doing the heavy lifting and getting into the end zone, but he doesn't get that opportunity if the throw is behind him, or low, or causes him to have to contort his body to pull it in. Again, it seems straightforward enough, but Ridder struggled at times with those throws during the season.) '22 draft: Six takeaways on Senior Bowl standouts (2. Ridder, Willis sharp in their own ways. Two more quarterbacks who stood out for different reasons were Cincinnati's Desmond Ridder, for his passing, and Liberty's Malik Willis for his running. Ridder threw a pair of touchdown passes in completing 4-of-6 attempts for 68 yards. Willis, meanwhile, rushed for a game-high 54 yards on just four carries in the first quarter, escaping pressure in the pocket and finding big gaps in the National defense. Senior Bowl rules that require end-of-quarter changes of possession robbed Willis of a scoring chance; he took his longest rush of the day 27 yards to the National 7-yard line on the last play of the first quarter, and the National offense took over by rule.) 2022 NFL Senior Bowl Quarterback Analysis (Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati: Desmond Ridder needed a strong showing in the Senior Bowl game after enduring a rough week of practice. We saw that on Saturday, as Ridder was one of the top quarterbacks in this contest. An early pass of Ridder's was dropped, but he bounced back on the next drive with a terrific touch pass to Romeo Doubs for a gain of 14. He followed that up with a play-action bootleg touchdown pass to tight end Trey McBride. Ridder returned to action in the fourth quarter to complete a pass for a 23-yard gain. This led to a second touchdown throw, which was another play-action bootleg. Ridder went 4-of-6 for 68 yards and two touchdowns. One incompletion was a drop. He had a tremendous showing in the game, but scouts and coaches will remember his lackluster practices. 2022 NFL Draft Projection: Round 2-4) (2-5-22): https://walterfootball.com/seniorbowl2022quarterbacks.php
Final Senior Bowl QB Power Rankings: Malik Willis, Sam Howell steal the show (6. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati: The issues that plagued Desmond Ridder‘s draft evaluation were present during his time at the helm of practice. Ridder was erratic. He was inaccurate. Ridder lost control of the football and lost control of the offense in the process at times. Yet, it wasn’t all bad. Ridder had a good 7-on-7 period. He had some great throws to wide receivers during the 1-on-1s. But, of course, he followed that up with some inaccuracy during team drills. Ridder is like that bad golf round that you hit one good shot. And that one good shot keeps you coming back for more.) 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl QB Review: Malik Willis and Desmond Ridder climbing up boards (DESMOND RIDDER, CINCINNATI BEARCATS (PFF Big Board Rank: 23) - Of all the players in attendance, Ridder was arguably the biggest winner of the bunch. He showed his 2021 breakout season that ended in a 90.7 PFF grade was no fluke. Ridder made several accurate and anticipatory throws across the last couple of days, something talent evaluators desperately wanted to see this week from him. What’s most impressive about Ridder’s growth this past season is that he did it in an offense that tasked him with a lot of pure passing concepts. He displayed an innate ability to process defenses and get through his progressions to find the right receiver. Ridder is making a push to be the first or second quarterback off the board in the 2022 NFL Draft.) Senior Bowl notes: Rookie QBs, Patriots next offensive coordinator and more (Ask 20 scouts at the Senior Bowl to rank the six quarterbacks practicing in front of 32 NFL teams this week, and you’d probably receive 20 different answers. That’s what one executive told PFF on Thursday following the final Senior Bowl practice of the week before Saturday afternoon’s all-star game. The consensus seems to be that this is not a great year to need a young quarterback, though there are many teams who could use one. Nevada’s Carson Strong has injury concerns; Western Kentucky’s Bailey Zappe lacks zip; Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett didn’t have his hands measured, practiced with gloves and struggled throwing through a rainy Wednesday practice; Liberty’s Malik Willis has the best tools but lacks accuracy; and Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder and UNC’s Sam Howell didn’t exactly stand out from the crowd this week. (It’s worth noting that the last time I was at the Senior Bowl was in 2012 — I was busy covering AFC Championship Games while covering the New England Patriots in the meantime — when the quarterbacks were Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Nick Foles, Brandon Weeden, Ryan Lindley and Kellen Moore. There were no true standouts that year, either, which goes to show that QBs can still have success without a stellar week in Mobile.)) It wasn’t quite the best day for ball security nor accuracy for Ridder, who’s been plagued by the latter in his career. 2022 Senior Bowl Day 1 notebook: QBs front and center (The National Team, coached by the Jets staff, practiced first on Tuesday, and quarterbacks Desmond Ridder, Kenny Pickett and Carson Strong were, well, average. And that's OK! It's a new offense with new players and new coaches and there's an adjustment period, for sure. Of the three, Strong had the best arm, Pickett and Ridder showed off their mobility, and all three struggled at times with accuracy.) NFL Draft: Introducing the top QB prospects (Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati - Strengths: Snappy release. Arm strength slightly exceeds NFL starter requirements. He's a smooth athlete. Checks the accuracy box. Plenty of pinpoint throws through traffic at the intermediate level and showed nice touch downfield. Smart with the football. Not going to put it in harm's way often. Very experienced. Started 49 games at Cincinnati. Weaknesses: Despite his fluidity as an athlete, he's awkward improvisationally. Tends to retreat in the pocket against pressure inside of drifting laterally away from defenders. Played lower level of competition, and his team had a talent advantage in most of those contests. Stylistic NFL comparison: Taller, lankier Derek Carr) (1-20-22): https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2022-nfl-draft-qb-prospects-strengths-weaknesses-and-pro-comparisons-for-the-top-signal-callers/

2022 NFL Draft Stock - Post-New Year's Bowls (Down - Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati: Ridder could be a mid-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. ESPN's uninformed play-by-play talking head said Ridder was a future first-rounder at the beginning of the Alabama-Cincinnati playoff game, but multiple NFL team sources have told WalterFootball.com they had given Ridder a backup grade and saw him as a mid-rounder. Ridder's limitations were put on display against Alabama. He telegraphed passes, and that led to a string of batted balls by the Crimson Tide defensive line. Ridder also held onto the ball too long and took some unnecessary sacks. Versus Alabama, Ridder completed 17-of-32 passes for 144 yards, but zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. He has a decent skill set with size, athleticism, and arm strength, but he looks like a NFL backup given his inconsistency and issues as a pocket passer.) The College Football Playoff's 25 best players (10. QB DESMOND RIDDER, CINCINNATI BEARCATS: Ridder showed immense growth as the Bearcats' starting quarterback this season, particularly down the stretch. He was a toolsy but inconsistent passer for Cincinnati in his first three years, putting up single-season PFF grades of 74.1 (2018), 72.2 (2019) and 76.3 (2020). This year, he developed his deep ball, sharpened his decision-making and improved his tight-window accuracy by leaps and bounds. Ridder posted a 91.0 PFF grade in 2021 and didn't produce a single turnover-worthy play in more than half of his games. Along with that, he has the best deep passing touchdown-to-interception ratio in the country (14:0).) (12-31-21): https://www.pff.com/news/college-football-playoff-25-best-players
2022 NFL Draft: Top 15 Senior Bowl prospects to watch in College Football Playoff (3. Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati (6-4, 215)*: No prospect has more riding on his College Football Playoff performance. Ridder has played well this year, distributing passes from the pocket when the offensive line gives him time and receivers hold up their end of the bargain. His accuracy in the intermediate and deep passing game has been good at times, but consistently aligning his lower and upper body on throws outside the hashes will endear him to NFL offensive coordinators. Ridder's stock will also rise if he can move within the pocket to avoid a supreme pass rusher like Will Anderson -- then keep his eyes downfield to find his targets. Using his legs to glide past the Tide's athletic linebackers will also intrigue teams looking for a true playmaker at the quarterback position.) QB #9 Desmond Ridder - Senior, Cincinnati, Size: 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, (40): 4.55 (Bowl game: Cotton Bowl vs. Alabama on Friday, December 31 (projected fourth-rounder)): Quintessential developmental quarterback who has the “it” factor. This game against Alabama is about as close to a pro warm-up as possible, and his draft stock will adjust accordingly. Ridder makes quick decisions with a strong arm, but his ball placement is all-over-the-road. Ridder will be a great back-up who always provides that spark. Shades of Nick Foles and Jeff Garcia.) Clustering the top 2022 NFL Draft quarterback prospects: Ole Miss' Matt Corral, Pittsburgh's Kenny Pickett and more (DESMOND RIDDER, CINCINNATI BEARCATS (PFF QB4, #35 OVERALL) (Scheme: Easy Buttons, Rushing Production: Mobile, Passing Production: Quick Trigger): Ridder played in an extremely helpful environment, just as Howell and Corral did. His accuracy profile is similar to Howell’s. Ridder's CPOE is excellent near the line of scrimmage, which is likely inflated by a heavy dose of RPOs, but it's either middling or below average in all other sections of the field. His most notable trait as a passer, according to the algorithm, was his low pressure rate. Typically, this is an indicator of a quick processor who consistently makes correct decisions when dropping back. However, it is worth noting that Ridder played for the most talented Group of Five team and behind an offensive line that was routinely bigger and better than its opponents. Ridder was particularly productive on the ground, handling many designed runs and generating a top-15 explosive rush rate. However, he did not cause enough missed tackles to be placed in the upper echelon of the sample. Drew Lock shared similar aspects in his statistical profile upon leaving Missouri, although his offense asked him to stretch the field a tad more often than Ridder.) 2022 NFL draft: 5 quarterbacks to watch for the Detroit Lions (Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati: Desmond Ridder has the size, arm strength and a couple of impressive seasons under his belt. Still, questions concerning his accuracy are legitimate, especially when thinking about how he projects against NFL defenses. But, at the same time, some of those are overblown when actually watching the player play. One of the more impressive aspects of his game is his tendency to make it work in the pocket, refusing to rely on his athleticism against inferior opponents. In a quarterback class lacking a true No. 1, this is the type of prospect that could continue to rise ahead of April’s draft. Ridder’s showing in the College Football Playoff and Senior Bowl could do wonders for his stock, or they could tank him into Round 2 territory depending on how he fares against Alabama’s defense. If Ridder shows out against that level of competition? Say hello to this beat writer’s QB1. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound quarterback has continued to improve with each passing year, cleaning up his game something fierce in 2021. Ridder threw for 3,180 yards, hitting 65.6% of his passes with 30 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He’s among the best deep passers in college football, with that arm strength sticking out and then some. Ridder is also a legit dual-threat, running for 361 yards and six touchdowns this season. He has 2,186 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns through four seasons at Cincy.) (12-10-21): https://www.mlive.com/lions/2021/12/2022-nfl-draft-5-quarterbacks-to-watch-for-the-detroit-lions.html
Why one draft expert thinks Lions could go QB in first round (Ridder (over 10,000 career yards and 87 career touchdowns) has the most experience and one of the highest ceilings among quarterbacks, Kiper said. He could surprise people as an early QB off the board. Would his potential, or that of Willis, be too much for the Lions to pass on? After the 6-4, 215-pound Ridder mostly played Group of Five teams in his career, he'll face Alabama's talented defense in the College Football Playoff semifinals. (The "He has the arm talent, size, running skills and intangibles to push him up the board in a down year for elite quarterbacks," Kiper writes. 22 draft: One QB rising in senior prospect rankings (9. Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati (6-4, 215) (Previous rank: No. 16): SMU and East Carolina found out the hard way what happens when giving Ridder time in the pocket. When able to align his upper and lower body, he drilled passes to the sideline and over the middle while also finding receivers over the top for big plays. Ridder also made the Mustangs and Pirates pay when leaving the pocket, including on a 40-yard run for a score and a trick-play touchdown reception against SMU. Ask Kyle: What are the chances of Detroit using the first overall draft pick on Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson? (Q: Do you think Desmond Ridder could make a Burrow like leap if he leads Cincy to the championship game and plays well? -- @WhatSymondsSays. A: Desmond Ridder will probably go in Round 1, but the first overall pick seems like quite a stretch. He has huge arm strength and four years of starting experience, not to mention some of the best wheels of any quarterback in the country. But his resume is blighted by inconsistency as a passer. 2022 NFL draft: Ole Miss' Matt Corral might be QB1, but it's a drop from recent drafts (5. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati (Last week: 6th): Saturday's win over SMU was arguably Ridder's best game of the season. It's at least in the running with the Notre Dame and Tulsa games. Ridder completed 17 of 23 passes for 274 and three TDs, ran for 46 yards and a score and even caught a 5-yard TD pass, hitting for the rare cycle. He's done just about everything you could ask from a QB prospect in his final season, improving incrementally and putting out very little poor tape — and a lot of good tape — against decent competition, even if the playoff committee doesn't fully agree. The question NFL evaluators have kicked around: How much better can he get? The answer to that will be borne out in his final draft spot. If pressed, we'd suggest he has an excellent chance to be taken in a similar range as Drew Lock and Jalen Hurts, but a strong postseason circuit could push Ridder into the late first-round picture for the right team wanting an experienced, athletic, relatively high-floor prospect.) 2022 NFL draft: Updated QB rankings (6. 2022 NFL draft: Kenny Pickett-Sam Howell duel, Phil Jurkovec's return tilt QB rankings (6. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati (Last week: 6th): We caught some of Ridder's game Friday night against South Florida, and following an early pick (that was almost returned for a TD) he settled in and delivered yet another highly efficient performance: 31 of 39 passing for 304 yards, two TDs and just the one interception. He also ran 10 times for 65 yards and a score. Granted, it came vs. a Bulls defense ranked near the bottom of the FBS rankings in multiple categories. The pick was a risky throw too far to the inside of his best target, Alec Pierce. But we loved Ridder's confident dart up the seam for a first down against a prevent defense right before the half to set up a field goal. Ridder led the Bearcats on six scoring drives in seven possessions following the pick, with five of those drives ending in touchdowns. This wouldn't be another UC nail biter; the game was pretty much over early in the second half despite USF cutting the deficit to 10 points with six minutes left. There's not much to hate about Ridder's game. He has a fairly high floor as a prospect, and that can't be overlooked. Once coaches enter the scouting mix, Ridder's improved accuracy and ball security will score some points with them. Scouts might question how high his ceiling is, however. He's going to be an interesting draft-room debate for a lot of teams. If you like safe projections, with just enough perceived upside, Ridder's your man. We don't believe he'll ever be a star, but there have been plenty of star-talent QB prospects who will have had shorter NFL careers than what Ridder is capable of having, we suspect.) 2022 NFL draft: Matt Corral outshines Malik Willis in QB showdown (6. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati (Last week: 6th): Ridder has remained firmly in the friend zone for us this season, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. He led another QB efficient effort in the win over Tulsa, both as a runner and passer. Watch the fade pass he made to Alec Pierce early in the third quarter to set up a touchdown, or his 3rd-and-3 scramble for a first down early in the second quarter to see what. we're talking about. Yet there were a few mistakes in the game, too. First, there was the high throw on an RPO that glanced on his receiver's hands for an interception. (It happened around the 9:00 mark of the first quarter; give it a watch and let us know what you think as to who was to blame.) Then there was Ridder's nearly disastrous late fumble near his own goal line that almost cost the Bearcats any hope of making the CFB Playoffs. Cincinnati held on defensively, and Ridder has done a good job cutting back on the fumbles this season, but there are some areas of his game we remain hesitant about.) College Football Week 10 Takeaways: Notable grades, advanced stats & more (The Bearcats’ offense was right where it needed to be on their scripted plays at the start of each half, but the in-game output was horrid. In fact, Cincy ended with negative EPA per play for the first time this year. While quarterback Desmond Ridder did fumble late in the fourth quarter to give Tulsa the ball at the three-yard line down just eight points with a minute to play, he wasn’t solely responsible. He uncorked two big-time throws in the fourth quarter, but both were dropped. Had those been caught, Cincy would have been deep into Tulsa territory with a good chance of putting the game on ice.) The College Football Playoff committee was seemingly unimpressed, ranking Cincy at No. 6 on Tuesday; NFL front offices may be similarly “meh” over his signature win so far: Oct. 2 over Notre Dame, in which he was 19-for-32 for 297 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.) 2022 NFL draft: Can Nevada's Carson Strong end up as QB1? (6. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati (Last week: 5th): That's two straight weeks where Ridder and the Bearcats started slowly before rebounding. There wasn't anything alarming with Ridder's performance, but he also didn't wow in any real way against a shorthanded Tulane team. His second TD pass to Josh Whyle was pretty, but Ridder's throw-to-throw consistency still warrants some criticism. He's a talented, experienced and tough-minded competitor with some holes in his game. How fixable they are and figuring out just how much of a ceiling he has will determine how high he ends up being drafted this spring. We view him as a top-50 possibility but not quite the first-round lock some are touting.) (11-1-21): https://sports.yahoo.com/2022-nfl-draft-can-nevadas-carson-strong-end-up-as-qb-1-154715450.html
Stock Watch: Shaky Saturday (Stock Steady: Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati - It took a while longer than expected, but Desmond Ridder and the number-two team in the country were finally able to put away 1-7 Tulane in the second half Saturday, by a final score of 31-12. This was a 14-12 game at the halftime break, with the Cincinnati Bearcats in the lead, before Ridder and company scored 17 unanswered in the second half to pull away. The quarterback finished the afternoon completing 17 of 27 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns, along with one interception. There were some good moments, such as this throw from his own end zone that flashed his arm talent. But there was also this play a little later in the game, that called into question his decisions from the pocket. Ridder, despite perhaps flying a bit under-the-radar in the early stages of this draft cycle, is getting some attention as the calendar nears November. Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr. both have the Bearcats passer in the their top five quarterbacks at the moment, and Bleacher Report’s team of scouts currently has him as their QB1. So he is not without some fans as the season starts to wind down, and draft season starts to pick up.) 2022 NFL Draft Stock - Week 8 (Down - Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati: Cincinnati barely beat a 1-5 Navy team, and Ridder was a reason for the near upset because of his struggles. There were a lot of regrettable plays by Ridder, and he was lucky not to have put the Midshipmen in place for an upset. Early in the first quarter, Ridder was fortunate not to have thrown an interception. He climbed the pocket and threw high and behind his receiver. It went to a deep safety, but the Navy defender couldn't complete the catch for an interception. Ridder bounced back to throw an easy touchdown pass to a wide-open tight end running free down the seam. Early in the second quarter, Ridder made a terrible pass downfield where it looked like Navy's safety was his intended receiver. Ridder stared down and predetermined his throw, going into double coverage for an easy interception. Shorty later, Ridder took a bad sack when he was under pressure and could have thrown the ball away, but he took the negative play instead. Early in the fourth quarter, Ridder had another would-be interception dropped on a horribly inaccurate pass. If the defender had held onto the ball, he could have coasted into the end zone with a pick-six from about 10 yards out. Versus Navy, Ridder completed 18-of-30 passes for 176 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. The performance will hurt Ridder's draft grade. He showed poor ball security, had issues reading the field, and played down to his competition. If the Midshipmen would have held onto to a few of Ridder's passes, they easily could have won this game and upset the No. 2 team in the country. Ridder has accuracy issues on intermediate passes and deep balls, and those issues were on display again against Navy. This outing made Ridder look more like a mid-round pick for the 2022 NFL Draft.) 2022 NFL draft: Liberty's Malik Willis tries to crash top of QB power rankings (5. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati (Last week: 5th): Ridder turned in yet another solid performance in the unbeaten Bearcats' 27-20 win at Navy. Although his accuracy has dipped a smidgen in recent games, and Ridder lost a fumble in the win, he's taken better care of the ball this season than he ever has. With 42 starts and counting, it's been easy to chart his steady ascent, displaying tangible (albeit incremental) growth. If Ridder can hone his throwing mechanics and fine-tune his accuracy a bit more, he can be in the top-40 mix in next spring's draft. We could see Ridder pairing well with a team that has talented receivers who can separate but a need at quarterback, such as the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Football Team and Denver Broncos.) 2022 NFL Draft: Evaluating the quarterback class at midseason (Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati, 6-3, 215, Redshirt Senior: They say steel hardens steel, and given how talented the Cincinnati secondary is, Ridder is gaining experience against top competition every day in practice for the undefeated Bearcats, the No. 2 team in the latest AP poll. Luke Fickell’s defense gets plenty of credit for the Bearcats' success — and deservedly so — but Ridder has proven to be a star since he grabbed the starting position as a redshirt freshman. He entered this season with 34 starts under his belt and a sterling 57-20 TD-to-INT ratio to go with 1,825 rushing yards and 22 scores. Statistically speaking, Ridder has proven to be the most consistent of the quarterbacks on this list, never reaching double digits in interceptions in a single season of his career. His dual-threat abilities are well-suited to today’s up-tempo game. He did a nice job answering questions about his poise with a strong performance in South Bend, beating Notre Dame with a season-high 297 passing yards and two scores (with no interceptions), along with another 26 yards and the pull-away score. For all of his success, however, Ridder remains more of a thrower than a passer. Often, he lobs the ball in the direction of his intended target and allows the receiver to make plays on the ball. This can result in some beautiful connections, such as the picture-perfect toss below. However, there are some ugly, predetermined throws into coverage on tape as well, with too many passes showing only moderate ball-placement, forcing receivers to adjust and limiting run-after-the-catch potential. The one thing scouts say about Ridder is that he is totally committed to his craft and has all the intangibles to be "the guy" at the next level.) 2022 NFL draft: How high can Pitt's Kenny Pickett rise in QB power rankings? (5. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati
(Last week: 5th) - Ridder's pedestrian stats (13-of-23 passing, 140 yards, TD; four rushes, 14 yards) mask what was a pretty decent performance. His TD pass to Alec Pierce was a thing of beauty. Ridder took care of the football well, but should have had more yards thanks to three dropped passes. Plus, the Knights were operating with some light boxes and two high safeties a big chunk of the time, so the Bearcats clearly were going to take the run — 346 yards' worth. Some evaluators favor Ridder over Howell and other QBs in this class. His experience will be a big benefit when it comes down to separating prospects. But there also are scouts who wonder just how high Ridder's ceiling is. He's a potential top-50 pick but also a taste-specific prospect.) 2022 NFL Draft QB Watch: Corral, Levis improving (Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati: Stock steady - The raw athletic ability of Ridder is evident. He has a strong enough arm to play in the NFL and his mobility has kept many a play alive. However, his decision-making is very frustrating. Ridder throws into tight coverage often and those windows close even more in the NFL. He has no problem leading his receivers into a big hit. For all of those reasons, I can not buy into the first-round hype. The buzz about Ridder has grown strong so I was eager to dive back into his tape but I found that little had changed from a year ago. Ridder is certainly capable of planting and driving a nail through a titanium beam but those moments do not outweigh the concerns. He could be a Kellen Mond type that teams take a chance on Day 2 because of his athletic ability. ) (10-18-21): https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2022-nfl-draft-qb-stock-watch-ole-miss-matt-corral-kentuckys-will-levis-showing-improved-decision-making/
Stock Watch: Desmond Ridder, Brennan Armstrong make some noise (Stock Up: Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati - We have not done a deep dive into Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder yet this season, which is odd for two reasons. First, Ridder had a chance to be the quarterback to bridge the top five and the rest of the class in last year’s draft, had he decided to leave school. Instead he returned to Cincinnati to make another run with the Bearcats. Second, when you are the starting quarterback for one of the top teams in the nation, you tend to generate some buzz. Ridder’s performance in Cincinnati’s win over UCF was the kind of workman-like outing that in many ways encapsulates his season to date. He completed 13 of 23 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown, not overly impressive but yet he and Cincinnati keep winning. Ridder’s scoring strike on Saturday, however, was impressive. Most importantly, the Bearcats are 6-0 and looking at the rest of their schedule, an unbeaten regular season is certainly within reach. That will certainly generate some attention come winter, and beyond.) (10-17-21): https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/lists/desmond-ridder-brennan-armstrong-kenny-pickett/

2022 NFL draft: Oklahoma's Spencer Rattler sinks in QB power rankings after Texas benching (5. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati
(Last week: 6th): Ridder turned in another strong outing against Temple. He has yet to have a sub-par game this season. Ridder has a ton of experience and has shown steady improvement. He has quickened his passing. He has improved his accuracy. The big-play ability has blossomed more. Those are all very good things. Yet there's something holding us back from believing Ridder will ever be great in the NFL. Solid? Respectable? Absolutely. There's a decent NFL prospect here, and his combination of skills make him more interesting than we could have imagined a year ago. Right now, we'd feel best taking him in Round 2. That certainly can change between now and April. ) (10-11-21): https://sports.yahoo.com/2022-nfl-draft-oklahomas-spencer-rattler-sinks-in-qb-power-rankings-after-texas-benching-170321326.html
No quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft class is the clear-cut No. 1 overall pick (DESMOND RIDDER, CINCINNATI (Redshirt Senior) - What’s to like: Opens up Entire Playbook. Ridder is a long, loose athlete whose right arm looks like a slingshot when he fires it downfield. Combine that with his speed, and Ridder can beat you in a number of different ways. He would be a value-add in the run game for any NFL offense and has had over 700 yards rushing in all three full seasons as Cincinnati's starter. Ridder is a long strider who looks fully capable of running away from NFL linebackers. With those tools, no play in the playbook is off-limits. Why we’re worried: Accuracy. Ridder has a 25.0% uncatchable pass rate on the season and a 24.4% rate for his career. For comparison, Trey Lance’s accuracy was quite easily his biggest negative last season, and he was only at 22.8% uncatchable in his lone season as the starter. That’s too many easy whiffs to really lay a strong QB1 claim. Verdict: Easy to Like. There truly is a lot to like in Ridder’s game. All it takes is one team to fall in love with Ridder’s tools and four-year starting experience. He’s already passed his biggest test so far in Notre Dame, but he needs to avoid any duds from here on out.) NFL Draft Stock - Week 5 (Up - Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati: In the Bearcats' impressive road win over Notre Dame, Ridder completed 19-of-32 passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for a score and lost a fumble. His peformance against the Fighting Irish will help his draft grade beacuse he showed field vision to work through progressions and the ability to manipulate coverage with his eyes. Ridder used his feet to extend some plays and lofted in some accurate passes downfield. Leading his team to a tough road win over a good team will not be lost on pro evaluators, and beating Notre Dame could help Ridder to rise in the 2022 NFL Draft's weak quarterback class.) 2022 NFL draft: Spencer Rattler, Malik Willis neck and neck in QB prospect power rankings (6. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati
(Last week: 6th) - Ridder turned in a very good game overall in Cincinnati's massive win at Notre Dame. His fourth-quarter TD run absolutely silenced the Irish faithful, capping a six-play, 75-yard drive. He threw for 297 yards and two TDs against a good defense (with a coordinator who knows him well) and had only one turnover, a fumble that led to a Notre Dame TD. That's four very respectable outings for Ridder. Hard to complain about that. There are still some in the scouting world who question his overall upside, and Ridder's throw-to-throw accuracy is far from elite, but he is turning in an excellent final college season and doing as much as he can to boost his stock in the NFL's eyes.) College Football Week 5 Takeaways: Notable grades, advanced stats & more (The only thing that could get in the way of Cincinnati running the table and securing a CFP berth — outside of the committee itself — is consistency at the quarterback position. Desmond Ridder delivered some impressive big-time throws this week, completing seven passes over 10-plus yards downfield for 218 yards and a score, but several inaccurate throws were mixed in. It's why he earned a good but not great 72.3 passing grade on first review. Up-and-down accuracy has been a common issue with Ridder so far. On passes thrown 10 or more yards downfield, Ridder had thrown more uncatchable passes than accurate ones heading into the week's matchup. Cincinnati needs less of the misses and more of these beautiful dimes. If Ridder can be a touch more consistent, no team is coming close to stopping the Bearcats in the regular season.) NFL draft prospects for the Lions to watch in college football Week 5 (Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati: Ridder and the Bearcats get their biggest stage of the season in South Bend against the Irish in the matchup of two top-10 teams (2:30 p.m., NBC). The lanky Cincinnati QB needs a strong showing to solidify himself as a viable Day 2 prospect. Thus far in 2021, he hasn’t quite looked like he belongs there. Ridder was good-not-great against Indiana and the two big knocks on him entering the season–accuracy and decisiveness–still looked problematic. There were glimpses of the guy who earned some “poor man’s Mahomes” comps in the offseason, but Ridder has to prove he can be like that for a complete game against a quality foe. After what the Irish did to Wisconsin last week in the final quarter, it’s certainly a litmus test for Ridder and the upstart Bearcats.) 2022 NFL draft: Three highly rated QBs face key matchups this weekend (Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder - If you're intrigued by Ridder, as we are, may we suggest checking out colleague Pete Thamel's excellent piece he wrote while embedded in the Bearcats program? There's plenty about the big matchup against the Irish this weekend, as well as some terrific Ridder nuggets. Plus, it's just a fascinating look behind typically closed doors for a program very much on the rise. Ridder is the on-field engine for Cincy's two-year swoon, and his decision to return to school (rather than leave for the NFL draft early) appears to be an excellent one. He's emerged as a leader and the face of the program, and Ridder's improvement on the field is evident, too. Looking to stop him is a Notre Dame defense that ran back two late pick sixes last week in a thumping of Wisconsin. That group might have allowed 38 and 29 points, respectively, to Florida State and Toledo in the opening two games. But defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman — who came from Cincinnati's staff last year — is playing far better now. Freeman surely will be conducting some insider trading with his firsthand knowledge of Ridder as a player, so it will be important for him not to fall into traps and be too aggressive. But on the flip side, we've always viewed Ridder with more appreciation when he's checking down less and making more aggressive reads and throws. So there's a balancing act with him in this game. Ridder possesses the movement ability to create out of structure and a rocket arm to thread throws all over the field. Can he have success against a talented defense, one with a potential top-five pick in safety Kyle Hamilton? If that happens, we expect Ridder to start hearing more first-round projections after entering the season with mostly third-, fourth- and fifth-round grades from NFL scouts.) 2022 NFL draft: Quarterback prospect power rankings, Week 4 (6. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati (Last week: 6th): Ridder and the Bearcats started slowly at Indiana, falling behind 14-0 and needing the defense to come up big in the eventual 38-24 win. But Ridder also overcame that start with a strong fourth quarter, throwing for a score (and later, a two-point conversion) and running for another TD to ice the comeback win. He might not be a special prospect, but Ridder has grown steadily over the past few years and is very much in the top-50 discussion for next spring.) College Football Week 3 Takeaways: Notable grades, advanced stats & more (Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder left a lot to be desired after showing signs of growth earlier this season. Indiana generated pressure with creepers and five-man rushes, and it rattled Ridder early on. He overthrew multiple passes and missed throws entirely, but he also didn’t get much help from his receiving unit as they dropped four passes in total. All of this led UC to an inefficient offense that produced -0.15 EPA per pass play, well below the production level they were at in the first two games (+0.4). ) (9-19-21): https://www.pff.com/news/college-football-week-3-takeaways-notable-grades-advanced-stats-2021
College football recaps, scores, highlights from Week 3 action (The Bearcats struggled to move the ball for the majority of the first half. The Hoosiers’ defense had the measure of quarterback Desmond Ridder, who was visibly frustrated on the sideline as Indiana raced out to a 14-0 lead. Peyton Hendershot and former USC running back Stephen Carr found the end zone for Indiana. Ridder’s struggles with accuracy early on will pump the brakes on an ascension of his 2022 NFL Draft stock. Like Rattler, he continues to struggle to overcome the areas for improvement that littered his summer scouting report. His insane arm talent and athleticism are certainly alluring, but the accuracy issues aren’t going away.) Week 3 college football prospects to watch include John Metchie and D’Eriq King (Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder vs. Indiana LB Micah McFadden - So far, in 2021, Desmond Ridder has displayed improvement. The 2022 QB prospect was viewed as a high-upside player with a need for refinement heading into the year. His accuracy issues were particularly pressing, but early on, Ridder has looked sharp. He’s more in-sync working in structure, and his athleticism and arm continue to pop. That said, Ridder hasn’t faced a defense like Indiana’s yet. That’s not to say that the Hoosiers’ defense is elite, but there are some notable players. In the secondary, Jaylin Williams, Tiawan Mullen, Marcelino McCrary-Ball, and Raheem Layne all have histories of production. At the unit’s center, linebacker Micah McFadden is a consistent playmaker with good instincts and play strength. Cam Jones also provides a threat. The Hoosiers will pose an extra challenge for Ridder, but it’ll be good for his stock if he can get the best of them.) Detroit Lions 2022 draft watch: 8 prospects to watch this Saturday (Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati (Senior) at Indiana, Saturday, 12:00 p.m. ET, on ESPN: Ridder is playing like a professional quarterback right now and he has Cincinnati ranked as the No. 8 team in the country. Through two games, the Bearcats have 91 points scored and Ridder is averaging an impressive 11.4 yards per pass attempt. Of course, it helps when your first pass of the season goes for 81 yards and a score. Ridder has NFL size, an NFL deep ball, is a four-year starter, a duel threat, is putting up big-time points on the board, but struggles with consistently placing the ball accurately. If you were a Trey Lance fan, make some time for Ridder.) (9-18-21): https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2021/9/18/22676726/detroit-lions-2022-draft-watch-8-prospects-to-watch-this-saturday
2022 NFL draft: 3 intriguing QB prospects face great tests this weekend (Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder at Indiana: The Ridder hype has slowly simmered since the end of last season, and he’s starting to put himself in the discussion of the top passing prospects in the 2022 class. He was smart to return to school for two reasons: to keep building off his 2020 growth, and to be part of a QB crop that he can more easily rise toward the top. Ridder draws a Hoosiers defense that has played pretty well (against the pass, anyway) despite getting blown out in the opener at Iowa. This group has a particularly good back seven, led by cornerbacks Tiawan Mullen and Jaylin Williams (back from injury), jack-of-all-trades DB Marcelino McCrary-Ball and linebacker Micah McFadden. Ridder has displayed steady improvement the past few years. His athleticism and arm talent will give him a shot to go high next year in the draft. He could still use a signature performance on the road against a solid-to-good defense such as this to kick his draft stock up a notch.) Week 3 College Football Schedule: Top games to watch (2022 NFL Draft prospects to watch in Cincinnati at Indiana: Cincinnati has a vast array of defensive talent to watch out for in this college football game, including one of the best cornerbacks in the nation. However, no prospect has more to gain from this matchup than Bearcats quarterback Desmond Ridder. Considered a mid-round prospect by many last year, Ridder returned to Cincinnati this year and has lit it up early on. Through two games, he’s completed 72.3% of his passes and thrown for 538 yards, averaging 11.4 yards per pass. Arm strength has never been an issue, but if Ridder keeps making insane downfield throws while showcasing accuracy and improved decision-making, he’s going to put himself into early-round contention. Ridder has thrown just 1 interception so far this season, but Tiawan Mullen will be aiming to inflate those numbers on Saturday.) He played a strong opener (outside of a bad third quarter) and a good (but hardly special) game Saturday against Murray State. But we want to see more from Ridder, who has some plus traits. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati: Desmond Ridder is perhaps the most athletically gifted player on our list of top quarterbacks for the 2022 NFL Draft. It’s imperative to note that as it’s a big part of his game. Ridder has run for over 700 yards in all three seasons as a starter and kicked off the 2021 campaign by averaging 9.8 yards per carry against Miami (OH). He also put on an aerial display that rivaled some of his best throws from a season ago against the RedHawks. College Football Week 1 Takeaways: PFF grades, advanced stats & more (CINCINNATI IS A PLAYOFF TEAM IF THIS IS THE NEW PASSING OFFENSE: Take this with a grain of salt — Cincy faced Miami of Ohio, after all — but the offense looks as if it has taken that well-needed leap. The Bearcats no longer relied on Desmond Ridder’s scrambling ability to move the ball and instead orchestrated an efficient passing attack. Over 64% of their pass plays generated positive expected points, a rate that bests every game from their 2020 season. There were more short, quick pass concepts incorporated than before, and Ridder executed the plan. Sixteen of his 25 pass attempts were within two seconds of the snap, and he completed 15 for 133 yards and two scores. He attempted only one pass between 10 and 19 yards downfield but posted a couple of big-time throws on passes thrown 20 yards or further. Again, it’s the Miami RedHawks, but this was an encouraging day for a passing offense that entered the year with some question marks.) Ridder has terrific size, arm strength, and athleticism. However, he lacks the ability to accurately place passes, especially downfield and out to the flanks (when his throws become an adventure). 2022 NFL draft: 12 QB-prospect matchups we can't wait for this season (6. Desmond Ridder vs. Michael Penix Jr: Ridder eschewed the draft and returned to the Bearcats, making him one of college football’s more experienced passers (34 starts). He’s also among the most improved at the position. After a dip in his 2019 play, Ridder helped guide Cincinnati to a 9-1 record and a top-10 ranking, throwing for 19 TDs and running for 12 more in his 10 starts. Penix is a crafty lefty with a lanky build and good athleticism, but his accuracy must improve. He completed 60% or lower in four of his six starts before suffering a torn ACL, which will provide another hurdle this season. Ridder is the more accomplished of the two, but Penix’s thrilling upside — on full display in his battle against Ohio State’s Justin Fields last season — cannot go overlooked.) Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati: Standing at 6’4″ and 215 pounds, Desmond Ridder has a prototypical frame that the NFL covets at the quarterback position. Of the quarterbacks in this ranking of the top 2022 NFL Draft quarterbacks, only Phil Jurkovec out of Boston College stands taller. With this height, you’d expect Ridder to be a passer who sits in the pocket and slings the ball down the field. On the contrary, you couldn’t be further from the truth. The Cincinnati quarterback was designated as an “athlete” coming out of high school. He’s demonstrated that athletic ability by becoming one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in college football when he takes off from out of the pocket. Last season, Ridder rushed for 592 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Meanwhile, he was one of only 11 players in college football to make a rushing or receiving play for over 90 yards. Furthermore, he has 1,825 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns in his three-year Cincinnati career. Ridder’s ability as a dual-threat led to him garnering early-round consideration in the 2021 NFL Draft. He opted to return to Cincinnati for another season where, if he can build on his consistency and accuracy as a passer, he can solidify himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2022 NFL Draft.)
