Gamblers love the Lions and for good reason. This is actually one time they are appropriately respected by a number, which factors hitting the road with the rare victory hangover. Matt Ryan is way better than his supporting cast makes him appear and is playing for greener pastures next year. But if he thinks Detroit is going to lay down and start purring for him, he's sadly mistaken. A trio of interceptions from a much-maligned secondary spell success for a second straight week. CBS Sullivan (Lions at Falcons:  The Lions have been a bettor's best friend this season. Despite the 2-11-1 record on the season, they are 9-5 ATS, which is tied for the second-best mark in the NFL entering Week 16. They are fresh off a surprisingly dominant win over the Cardinals and now head down to face the Falcons, who are 0-5 ATS at home this season. NFL.com Rosenthal (Lions win 24-21:  The Lions are the most well-coached two-win team I've seen in a long time. I especially like that they have been intentional about their strengths. They wanted a great offensive line and they have one. They are coaching up players like Charles Harris on defense to career-best play. Jared Goff is also doing his best poor man's Matt Ryan impression, which should be enough for a third win in four games if Goff gets off the reserve/COVID-19 list in time. PFN (Detroit Lions at Atlanta Falcons (-4.5):  This game has surprisingly big implications for both the playoff picture and draft order. The Falcons essentially need to win if they are to stay alive in the playoff race. Meanwhile, a loss would be good for the Lions in terms of their draft positioning. However, in terms of setting the tone, a win is far more important.  This is another one where logic says to take the Falcons, but betting on the game might not be wise. Detroit has won two of their last three and could easily spring the upset. The Lions are riding a high after beating the Cardinals, while the Falcons might seem deflated after the 49ers defeat. But Detroit already has had the big moment in an otherwise lost season. Atlanta would like to finish strong outside the division. CBS Prisco (Detroit Lions at Atlanta Falcons (-5.5):  The Lions impressed in a big way in beating the Cardinals last week. Atlanta blew too many scoring chances in losing to the 49ers. Neither one of these teams is going to the playoffs. Both still compete for first-year coaches and I think the Falcons at home will play better this week in the red area. CBS Brinson (Lions at Falcons:  Have you seen this absurd spread? The Falcons are favored by nearly a touchdown against the spread-covering Terminator Detroit Lions. I hate the 2021 Falcons. But I think I've finally figured them out -- they beat up on really bad teams and get smoked by anything remotely resembling a playoff team. The Lions try really hard but after their other win of the season, they lost 38-10 to the Broncos. When you're living on 78 ounces of Dan Campbell being injected into your veins a day, there's going to be a natural endorphin crash after you celebrate a win. This is a clear Matt Ryan/Cordarrelle Patterson blowup spot. The Jared Goff situation is in flux with amended protocols, so it's impossible to know how that plays out. I'd guess the line moves over a touchdown quickly if Goff was out, but we might not know until Saturday. If you can get the Falcons under a touchdown, I'd take it.
