Week 17 Predictions

NFL.com (Lions win 20-19:  I had the Lions winning last week in Atlanta until Tim Boyle was announced as the starter, then only had them covering. Success! I had the Bears winning last week in Seattle until Nick Foles was announced as the starter, then only had them covering. Half-success! Detroit's defense is playing hard every week, Jared Goff is off the COVID list, and the Lions are more invested than a 5-10 Seahawks squad that isn't used to playing in games that don't matter. Detroit is 10-5 ATS and one of the few teams I've had pegged well all year. Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS.  The Lions already bit the Cardinals from the NFC West and the Seahawks already experienced a rough home upset against another lesser NFC North team in the Bears. Seattle has found something with Rashaad Penny and the running game, and Detroit can't slow that down much. Russell Wilson also will be made comfortable to keep throwing well downfield. SN Bender (Detroit Lions at Seattle Seahawks (-7.5):  The Seahawks will be home against the Lions, which lost another close one in Week 16 but have not quit under first-year coach Dan Campbell. The Seahawks are 30th in total offense (305.2), and the Lions are 29th in scoring offense (17.3). CBS Prisco (Detroit Lions (+7) at Seattle Seahawks - This is one of the dog games of the week, featuring two non-playoff teams. The Lions are playing a second straight road game, while Seattle is home after losing Sunday to the Bears. The Lions should have Jared Goff back, which will help keep them in this game. CBS Sullivan (Lions at Seahawks:  The Lions are the gift that keeps on giving this season, so why not go back to the well? Detroit is 10-5 ATS, which is tied for the third-best mark in the entire NFL. Seattle is coming off of a loss to Chicago last week that officially eliminated them from postseason contention, so we could be seeing a not-so-motivated team take the field on Sunday. While the Seahawks have historically enjoyed a strong home-field advantage, they are just 3-4 ATS at Lumen Field this year. Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET:  The Lions cover and try hard. The Seahawks are a late 90's Melrose Place episode. The only issue here when it comes to betting on the Lions is how many people are screaming about Detroit as a great 'dog. We haven't seen a massive DK Metcalf game in a while and Russell Wilson is talking about this being -- MAYBE -- his last game at home for the Seahawks. He might cut the cord into his helmet pregame and just go full YOLO. It's a Baby Big Ben situation for Russ. Hmm. A bad NFC North team just went into Seattle and beat the fractured Seahawks. The Lions, for all their faults, are 10-5 against the number and week after week are undervalued. Dan Campbell's team is physical and tough and determined on the line of scrimmage even though none of this matters. If Tim Boyle or Jared Goff make two throws, this is a four-quarter game.
