Highest- and lowest-graded players of the 2023 NFL preseason: QB Kenny Pickett and RB Jaylen Warren shine bright (TIGHT END - Lowest-graded player: Daniel Helm, Detroit Lions (33.0):  Helm caught neither of the two passes thrown his way, dropping one of them. He was better as a blocker, though, as he posted a run-blocking grade of 54.5 and a pass-blocking grade of 60.8.):  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-highest-and-lowest-graded-players-of-the-2023-nfl-preseason-qb-kenny-pickett-and-rb-jaylen-warren-shine-bright

Ceiling and floor for all 32 NFL teams in 2023 season (Detroit Lions (2022 record: 9-8) - Ceiling: 12-5, win NFC North.  The Lions are certainly the trendy pick to be the surprise team of the NFL this season -- and for good reason. Jared Goff was excellent in the second half of last year, a stretch in which the Lions finished 8-2. Detroit gave Goff more playmakers by adding David Montgomery and drafting Jahmyr Gibbs at running back, while also drafting Sam LaPorta at tight end. Of course Amon-Ra St. Brown is already one of the best receivers in the league. The secondary immensely improved and the offensive line is one of the best in the league. This team is good enough to take over the NFC North throne.   Floor: 9-8, miss playoffs.  Hard to see the Lions having a losing season with all the talent they have on the roster, but this team is a Goff or St. Brown injury away from the season being a disaster. There isn't much depth at wide receiver until Jameson Williams returns (and he's unproven) while the rookie class (LaPorta, Gibbs and linebacker Jack Campbell) have to step up and contribute immediately. The NFC North is wide open and there are expectations for the Lions to win. Can they live up to them?):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/ceiling-and-floor-for-all-32-nfl-teams-chiefs-eagles-bengals-have-super-bowl-dreams-many-set-to-surprise/

FMIA: Eagles Over Bills in Super Bowl LVIII, Jaguars Are AFC’s Top Seed and More 2023 NFL Season Predictions (How I see the playoff races:  NFC seeds - 3. Detroit (10-7). I buy the hype.  The awards - Offensive rookie: Overall pick in parentheses. 1. Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Detroit (12). 2. Zay Flowers, WR, Baltimore (22). 3. Bryce Young, QB, Carolina (1).  Flowers will be more spectacular. Gibbs will produce more yards.  Coach: 1. Doug Pederson, Jacksonville. 2. Dan Campbell, Detroit.  What I’ve Learned - Jared Goff, on what he has learned from being a franchise quarterback for the Rams, being a Super Bowl quarterback for the Rams, getting exiled to Detroit, having your confidence beaten up over the move, and recovering to reclaim his career at the ripe age of 28:  “I think you learn that you might be a little tougher than you might think. You can handle a lot more than you think. I learned that on a pretty grand scale it’s something happening to you that can be one of the greatest things. It can be a gift in some ways.  “It’s all about how you approach it. By no means am I a philosopher, or somebody’s who’s all-knowing. But I think approaching it whether it’s a good situation or bad situation, it doesn’t matter what you think it is. Coming into it optimistically and putting your head down every day, one day at a time, can only lead to positive results at some point. It may take 10 years. It may take two years. It is what it is.  “I’ve learned getting knocked down is one of the greatest things that can happen to you.”  Games of Week 1 - Detroit at Kansas City, Thursday, 8:20 p.m., NBC. One of the great young guns for the surprising Lions, Amon-Ra St. Brown, told me in camp about this mega-game: “I’m not saying we’re gonna go out there and win. I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I’m just glad that we have an opportunity to show what we can do. Obviously I think we’re ready. But … we have to prove it to everyone. The Lions haven’t done much for the last—you name it, decades. They haven’t won many games. Haven’t won many playoff games. So for us, we gotta go out there and prove it.” Strangely, a close defeat would feel like a win for the Lions in, easily, the toughest game on their 2023 schedule.):  https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/fmia/news/eagles-bills-super-bowl-2023-nfl-season-predictions-peter-king-fmia

2023 NFL division winner odds, staff picks (Edwards: Lions. I do not think there is an obvious choice to win the NFC North, which is exciting. Detroit has a gritty nature to them but their ceiling is relatively low. Green Bay is an unknown with Jordan Love slated to receive his first extended playing time. Minnesota is consistently competitive with Kirk Cousins. Chicago is the only team I feel comfortable ruling out.  Wilson: Lions. At this point, this might be one of the most popular picks on the internet. But it's hard not to love coach Dan Campbell, and how GM Brad Holmes has put this team together. First-round picks Jahmyr Gibbs and Jack Campbell will be immediate contributors, and the NFC, in general, is wide open. So much so that it's not even double-take-worthy when I say that Jared Goff has a case as the second-best QB in the conference.  Kerr: Lions. This is Detroit's time to siege the division, bolstered by consistent quarterback play from off and a strong offensive and defensive line.  Brinson: Lions. Was quite tempted to take the Packers here but the Lions are simply the most well-built team in this division right now, with the consistency at quarterback in Jared Goff, a really strong offensive line and some high-end, first-round, immediate impact rookie additions in Jahmyr Gibbs and Jack Campbell.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2023-nfl-division-winner-odds-picks-buying-jaguars-and-saints-plus-more-staff-predictions/
