10 fairytale trades ahead of the 2025 NFL trade deadline (CB DJ Turner II to the Detroit Lions:  Even though the Bengals have languished defensively — placing 31st in EPA per play and 25th in team PFF coverage grade — Turner has been outstanding. Turner’s 80.0 PFF coverage mark is the third-best among qualified cornerbacks, and his nine pass breakups lead the NFL. Altogether, Turner has been responsible for 0.14 Wins Above Replacement, tied for the most among corners in 2025.  The Lions assuredly felt great about their cornerback room going into September, but the injury bug has bitten yet again. D.J. Reed is on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, while Terrion Arnold is out with a shoulder problem. Even when on the field, Arnold hasn’t been effective, churning out only a 44.4 PFF coverage grade through five games. All told, seven Lions corners — Reed, Arnold, Amik Robertson, Rock Ya-Sin, Arthur Maulet, Avonte Maddox and Nick Whiteside — have all played at least 40 snaps this year.  Like Hendrickson, Turner doesn’t seem likely to leave Cincinnati before next week — with one more year on his contract and still only 25, he’s a definite extension candidate. Yet if the Bengals decide to shop their star edge rusher, then their standout corner probably isn’t entirely off limits. NFL All-Pro 2025 Midseason Picks and Predictions (Right tackle - First team (1): Penei Sewell, Lions.  Sewell has been the gold standard at right tackle over the past two seasons, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2023 and ’24. There’s no reason for anything to change. Sewell has been a rock on the right side for Detroit, permitting a single quarterback hit through seven weeks.  Linebackers 
First team (3): Jack Campbell, Lions; Bobby Wagner, Commanders; Devin Lloyd, Jaguars.  Campbell fills the stat sheet every week. The 2023 first-round pick has 64 tackles, three sacks, five tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a pass defensed. Then there’s Lloyd, who won September’s Defensive Player of the Month with four interceptions this season, including a 99-yard pick-six of Patrick Mahomes. While the Jets and Saints aren’t good, no one should overlook Sherwood and Davis. Sherwood has been a linchpin in the middle, racking up 75 tackles, including five for loss and four passes defensed. NFL: Report card grades in the NFC North for week 8 (Detroit Lions - Offensive Grade: A.  Detroit was on BYE, but its offense is ranked 7th in yards per game (357.3). Detroit continues to dominate opposing teams on the ground, leading to open passing lanes. Quarterback Jared Goff is off to a great start, totaling 1,631 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and three interceptions. The Lions’ best offensive weapons, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and running back Jahmyr Gibbs, continue to lead the team. St. Brown has 50 catches, 538 receiving yards, and seven receiving touchdowns. Gibbs has 526 rushing yards (5.1 average), six rushing touchdowns, 26 catches, 194 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown. The team’s high-octane offense continues to be one of the NFL’s best.  Defensive Grade: A-.  Detroit’s defense has been equally as good as its offense. The defense is ranked 8th in yards per game (300.0), 5th in turnover differential (+6), 5th in sacks (23), and 7th in interceptions (7). The defense plays fast and is relentless against opposing quarterbacks.  Overall Grade: A.  Detroit is one of the best teams in the NFL. The Lions’ offense is among the NFL’s top-ranked teams, and their defense is highly ranked in nearly every statistical category.
