Reevaluating 32 bold NFL predictions, five weeks in: Which are on target, and which deserve a do-over? (Still a chance - Detroit Lions:  Original prediction: Edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson will record at least 100 pass rush wins, something that has happened only twice since the metric was created in 2017.  Why there's still a chance: Hutchinson is off to a nice start with five sacks through five games, but he's still well off the 100-win pace. He has 19 pass rush wins to date, putting him on track to reach 65. That would be a nice total, but not historic.  So why still a chance? NFL buzz for Week 6: What we're hearing on Geno Smith, Daniel Jones, extension candidates and more (Which player is most likely to get an extension over the next two months?  Fowler: I'm going to start on defense. Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson looks destined for a new deal. Both sides have had exploratory discussions about an extension, for which Hutchinson is eligible as a fourth-year pro. Top pass rushers now make quarterback money, punctuated by Micah Parsons' four-year, $186 million deal with Green Bay.  While I'm not sure Hutchinson tops that number, he'll be among the highest paid at his position whenever this deal gets done. He looked destined for a Defensive Player of the Year award last season before suffering a leg injury in mid-October, and he has picked up where he left off with five sacks and three forced fumbles through five games. NFL pass-rusher rankings ahead of Week 6 (Week 5 Highlights - Most Total Pressures: Aidan Hutchinson, Detroit Lions.  Hutchinson's eight pressures in Week 5 led the league, his third straight game with at least seven pressures. The former first-round pick out of Michigan was on a record pace last season before suffering a season-ending injury in Week 6, generating 45 pressures across just 198 pass-rushing snaps. Season Highlights - Most Total Pressures: Aidan Hutchinson, Detroit Lions.  After a slow start to the season by his standards (two pressures), Hutchinson has been the league’s most productive pass rusher, generating 29 pressures and five sacks over the past four games. Five NFL teams on upset alert in Week 6 (Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs (-2.5):  Kansas City is in a bad way and letting fringe playoff teams take it down, as shown by its Monday night loss to the Jaguars. The Chiefs' lone two wins this season came against the Giants and a banged-up Baltimore Ravens team that was missing Lamar Jackson for a chunk of the second half.  In Week 6, Kansas City hosts a Lions team that has been prolific on offense, averaging an NFL-best 34.8 points per game. This season, the Chiefs are giving up 4.8 yards per carry on the ground, which is tied for the NFL's fifth-highest mark. That seems like a monumental mismatch against a Detroit backfield led by Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. 2025 NFL MVP Stock Watch: Baker Mayfield Establishes Himself as New Frontrunner (5. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions (Last week: Unranked).  Goff has proven he doesn’t need Ben Johnson calling plays to perform at an elite level in the league. Goff leads the league in touchdown passes (12) and is second in passer rating (120.7). The Lions are 4-1 and have an argument to be considered as the best team in the league at this point in the season.  The Lions have also kept Goff upright for the most part, with just eight sacks this year. NFL 2025 quarter season team grades: Only a few teams look like Super Bowl contenders (Detroit Lions - Some of the reactions to the Lions after Week 1 will be fun to look back on by the end of the season. The Lions looked terrible in the opener against the Packers, a lot of people left them for dead, and they've been the best team in football since. They are showing they don't really miss their coordinators, their offensive line is fine and they'll again be one of the top scoring teams in the NFL. They'll still need to deal with the Packers and a rematch on Thanksgiving, but a lot of people prematurely jumped off the Lions bandwagon after one bad game. NFL Players of the Week: Sam Darnold, Stefon Diggs Headline PFSN’s Highest-Graded Players in Week 5 (TE: Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions 91.1, A-.  One of several Detroit Lions you’ll read about, Sam LaPorta led all tight ends with a 91.1 Impact Grade this week. It was the second-highest grade of LaPorta’s career, behind a 97.2 he earned in 2023 vs. the Saints.  LaPorta did his best work after the catch, piling up 42.8 YAC over expected. That was the second-most by a tight end in a game this season (Tucker Kraft had 45 in Week 2 vs. the Commanders). As a result, LaPorta averaged 4.0 yards per route, the second-highest in his career behind that Saints game (7.0). OT: Penei Sewell, Detroit Lions 88.1, B+.  Penei Sewell was again the highest-graded offensive lineman overall in Week 5. It’s the fifth time he’s been the highest graded offensive tackle in a week, and the third time he’s led all O-linemen. He accomplished both these distinctions earlier this season against the Ravens.  Sewell allowed zero pressures on 28 pass blocking snaps, and has allowed just three the entire season. He’s also yet to commit a penalty in 2025 and has the highest run blocking grade of any OL at any position.  G: Christian Mahogany, Detroit Lions 86.0, B.  Christian Mahogany joined his All-Pro teammate in recording the highest OLi grade at his position. The second-year pro’s 86.0 OLi was his best grade to date. Mahogany didn’t allow a single pressure — his second clean pass protection game of the season (also Week 2 vs. the Bears). He also didn’t commit a penalty after doing so each of the last two weeks.  With Mahogany and Sewell this week, the Lions had multiple position-leading linemen in OL Impact for the third time since 2019. Sewell and Graham Glasgow each led their positions in 2023 Week 16, while three Lions linemen (Sewell, Glasgow, and Frank Ragnow) led in 2023 Week 1.  S: Kerby Joseph, Detroit Lions 90.1, A-.  Kerby Joseph rounds out the quartet of position-leading Lions this week with his 90.1 Safety Impact grade. Joseph recorded an interception and a PBU on his two targets, and four tackles with none missed.  Joseph leads the NFL with 12 interceptions since the start of last season, three more than any other player. NFL Quarterback Rankings: Familiar Face Tops the List, Lamar Jackson Out of Top Three (5. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions:  After Week 1, plenty of people were ready to bury Goff and the Lions. Not so fast. Since losing 27–13 to the Packers on opening day, Detroit is 4–0 while Goff has accounted for 11 touchdowns and one interception. On the year, he’s completing a league-high 75.2% of his attempts and is fifth in EPA per play (0.301).
