NFL Week 3: Reasons to watch each game (Lions at Vikings - Lions: Detroit has scored 35 of more points three games in a row dating back to last season. It’s the first time since 1953 the Lions have posted points like that. Can they keep the streak alive against a divisional foe in their first trip away from Ford Field? WR Amon-Ra St. Brown has at least eight receptions in eight straight games. If St. Brown makes it nine in a row, he breaks the tie for the NFL record of most consecutive games with at least eight catches. Rookie DE Aidan Hutchinson notched his first three sacks in Week 2 and is looking for more. The Lions lead the NFL in yards per carry at 7.2 and the Vikings surrender 5.3 YPC, so there could be more big runs from RB D’Andre Swift. – Jeff Risdon, Lions Wire.  Vikings:- Who are the real Minnesota Vikings? I predicted a finish right around .500 before the season due to the massive variance in play this roster has shown us over the Kirk Cousins era. NFL Week 2 Secondary Rankings (25. DETROIT LIONS (Highest-Graded DB: S Tracy Walker (73.4)):  The cornerback room looks much improved for the Lions, but they’ve got to get healthier. Amani Oruwariye is a really good cornerback when on the field, but he missed Week 2, which meant more snaps for Mike Hughes. This unit doesn't have a ton of holes, but it doesn't have one superstar, either. One thing we learned about each NFL team in Week 2 (Detroit Lions - The offense is legit: Detroit has scored 30-plus points in three straight games for the first time since 1997. D'Andre Swift is averaging 10 yards per carry and Amon-Ra St. Brown has an NFL record six straight games with eight-plus receptions and a receiving touchdown.  Swift, St. Brown, and a very good offensive line is making life easy for Jared Goff, who has six touchdowns to just one interception after two games. Soon, Detroit will add Jameson Williams to this dynamic pass-catching unit.  This Lions offense isn't a mirage. Detroit is going to put up points with the offensive talent they have. Secret Superstars for Week 2 of the 2022 NFL season (Dan Skipper, OG, Detroit Lions:  Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is all about culture and grit and all that, and his team showed all of it in their 36-27 win over the Washington Commanders last Sunday. After the game, left guard Dan Skipper became Campbell’s latest poster boy for the culture he wants.  The six-year journeyman, who had never started an NFL game before, and had never played guard before, was actually cut from the team in preseason. Week 2 saw him thrown into the fire against that formidable Washington front.  It’s a nice story and all, but it falls apart if Skipper can’t perform on the field. Well, against the Commanders’ (admittedly terrible) defense, but against a front that is talented enough to transcend its coaching, Skipper allowed one sack, no quarterback hits, and two quarterback hurries on 37 pass-blocking snaps. And the sack he allowed was a tough one — he had to deal with defensive tackle Jonathan Allen inside, and then, he was late to pick up linebacker Jamin Davis on a multi-gap stunt. Not ideal, but you’ll see a lot of guards with a lot more experience give up sacks against games like this.  “Hey man, I mean… my sixth year in the league, I’ve never made a team,” Skipper said after the game. “It’s tough, you go in, and you’re never quite good enough. You’re not quite enough. You show up every day, and you think you’re doing the right things, and just for whatever reason, it just doesn’t quite work out. I think I’ve had 20 NFL contracts? They’re not worth the paper they’re written on, right? So, it’s like, ‘Here we go again.’  “Six years, I think things look good, and it sucks, but went home, got things – got to spend a week with the family which was big, got back up here, moved and all that. Just trying to get back to push your best foot ahead every day. It’s not easy. Whether you’ve been fired once or 100 times, it still sucks. It’s tough. You get fired, but just keep on plugging away.”  Well, you certainly want to root for this guy.  Campbell’s Chuck Norris style wouldn’t mean a thing if it didn’t have that swing, and when you get guys coming out of nowhere and succeeding, it’s a pretty good indication that there’s more than just smoke to the ways in which Campbell is getting it done.  John Cominsky, DL, Detroit Lions:  The last time I really dug into Cominsky’s tape before Monday morning, the current Lions and former Falcons pass-rusher was on the wrong end of Panthers right tackle Taylor Moton’s full-scale demolition charge.  And yes, Geoff, we had the end zone angle. Yikes!  The Lions claimed Cominsky off waivers after he played just 13 defensive snaps for the Falcons in 2021, and things turned up pretty quickly for Cominsky in his new home. Through two games in the new season, he has a sack, a quarterback hit, and eight quarterback hurries. It got lost in rookie Aidan Hutchinson three-sack performance against the Commanders on Sunday, but Cominsky had that sack, and seven total pressures.  The sack was specifically impressive, because as Hutchinson (No. 97) stunted several gaps inside, Cominsky (No. 79) shredded a double-team on the way to Carson Wentz.  Oh — and the Lions play the Panthers on Christmas Eve, so if Cominsky wants revenge on Moton, that’s when he can try and get it.  Malcolm Rodriguez, LB, Detroit Lions:  The man they called “Rodrigo” in Hard Knocks, Malcolm Rodriguez was selected in the sixth round of the 2022 draft out of Oklahoma State, and so far, the rookie is doing everything he can to force his teammates to actually remember his name. In Detroit’s Sunday win over the Commanders, Rodriguez had a quarterback hurry, three tackles, three stops, and while his coverage was up and down, he was just fine when moving forward.  Let’s go to that one quarterback pressure, because it’s important. With 8:01 left in the first quarter. Here, he shot all the way around the formation, closed in on Carson Wentz, and forced the incompletion.  The Lions are in full rebuild mode on that side of the ball after what they allowed Matt Patricia to do to their defense in the previous era (yes, folks, there are currently two NFL teams trying to navigate Patricia’s presence or absence). Week 2 NFL Rookie Report Card: Garrett Wilson, Tyler Smith, And Hard Knocks Star Malcolm Rodriguez Shine In Week 2 (Lions LB Malcolm Rodriguez: B.  This one has to feel so sweet for Lions fans. Year after year during the Bob Quinn era, fans saw unathletic linebacker after unathletic linebacker walk through their doors in Motor City. Now, an undersized sixth-round bowling ball has single-handedly changed the narrative. .Malcolm Rodriguez was a staple on Hard Knocks. The charismatic 5-foot-11 linebacker was battling for a starting spot and stealing camera time. Through two games as a starter in the NFL, he’s continued proving himself a downhill thumper. His seven stops tie Quay Walker for the most among rookie defenders.  Lions DE Aidan Hutchinson: B.  “But Dalton, he had THREE sacks!” Yes, he did, but two of them were Carson Wentz sacks, and the third was him coming untouched on a stunt.
