What you need to know for the NFL season: All 32 teams' outlooks, breakouts picks and bold predictions (Detroit Lions
Preseason power ranking: No. 26.  Most important discovery at camp: Malcolm Rodriguez, LB.  The rookie linebacker -- a sixth-round pick out of Oklahoma State -- has impressed early on and could find himself starting in Week 1. Inside the Lions' facility, his growing popularity has earned the nickname "Rodrigo," and he has become a star on HBO's "Hard Knocks." Detroit's coaching staff is doing its best to keep the hype under control, but there's no denying his early production. -- Eric Woodyard.  The season will be a success if ... Detroit can win at least seven games.  The team, which finished 3-13-1 last season, is still in the midst of a rebuild, but the front office has upgraded the roster through free agency and the draft this offseason. Given the improvements, the Lions should at least double their win total. Lions fans might have higher expectations, but a truly successful campaign would be hitting that benchmark and improving Detroit's standing in the NFC North. -- Woodyard.  Impact newcomer: DJ Chark, WR.  He's a man on a mission. The former Pro Bowl wideout knows he is on a one-year, "prove-it" deal, and he sees a big opportunity to be an impact player for the Lions. My bet is that he'll show up. He has established trust with quarterback Jared Goff through their offseason work together, and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has confidence in Chark's attention to detail and playmaking ability. -- Woodyard.  Fantasy breakout candidate: D'Andre Swift, RB.  Swift is already quite valuable in fantasy, but the upside is there -- should he stay healthy and earn more volume -- to become one of the top running backs in the league. -- Eric Karabell.  Over or under six wins? Over.  With continuity on their coaching staff, the Lions have continued to add offensive and defensive playmakers and upgrade Jared Goff's O-line. In 2022, Detroit could surprise bettors. -- Eric Moody.  Bold prediction for 2022: No. 2 overall pick Aidan Hutchinson will lead all rookies in sacks.  Hutchinson's playing style, paired with defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn's scheme, puts the rookie in a position to create pocket disruption and the ability to win one-on-ones. Look for Hutchinson to post 10-plus sacks. -- Bowen):  https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34502379/nfl-team-previews-2022-predictions-fantasy-breakout-players-depth-charts-power-rankings-picks

NFL rookie award predictions: Scouting and analyzing a deep group (Favorites for Defensive Rookie of the Year - Aidan Hutchinson, Edge, Detroit Lions (Selected No. 2 overall):  As the most dominant draft-eligible defender in college football a year ago, Hutchinson is an easy favorite for this list, with the extra attention gained through "Hard Knocks" and playing for his home-state Lions providing all the more reason any list previewing this award must highlight him. While perhaps not the physical specimen Walker is, Hutchinson is significantly further along in his development as a pass rusher, incorporating moves like a 10-year NFL veteran. With all due respect to journeyman Charles Harris — the only player on Detroit's roster to ever record as many as six sacks in a single NFL season — Hutchinson does not have the luxury of joining a club with an established pass rush. As such, if the Lions do make a jump back into relevance this season, Hutchinson is likely to be the defensive leader who helps spark it. Even without eye-popping numbers, a change in culture could earn Hutchinson votes.):  https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/nfl-rookie-award-predictions-scouting-and-analyzing-a-deep-group

NFC North Predictions:

NFC North Predicted Finishes, Strengths, Weaknesses (3. Detroit Lions. Projected wins: 6.75. Biggest Strength - Jamaal Williams.  The Lions should be able to run the football better in 2022 thanks to their offensive line, which includes three first-round picks (left guard Taylor Decker, center Frank Ragnow and right tackle Penei Sewell) and a Pro Bowler (right guard Jonah Jackson). The unit has the potential to propel Detroit’s offense into the top-10 in several statistical categories. The front office has contributed significant financial resources to the offensive side of the football, so they must deliver. Expect the running back tandem of D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams to be used in the passing game, too. Quarterback Jared Goff should be able to keep defenses off-balance with the play-action pass, which could open up the downfield passing game to free-agent addition to D.J. Chark and rookie Jameson Williams (when healthy).  Biggest Question - Jeff Okudah):  Bolstered by first-round pick Aidan Hutchinson, this group is very young and will be counting on second-year players to help shoulder the load. Alim McNeill should become more of a force along the interior of the defensive line. Linebacker Derrick Barnes has all the tools physically to play the position well, though reading plays and recognizing his coverage/gap responsibility is evolving. The biggest question mark will be whether cornerback Jeff Okudah stay healthy and contribute at a high level. He is returning from an Achilles tear and had a decent preseason. The No. 3 overall pick in 2020, Okudah has played in only 10 career games and intercepted only one pass. Okudah and Amani Oruwariye have the potential to form a quality cornerback tandem.):  https://www.si.com/nfl/packers/news/nfc-north-predicted-finishes-strengths-weaknesses

NFC North Preview: Key Strength and Question For Vikings, Packers, Lions, Bears (Detroit Lions - Biggest strength:  The Detroit Lions should be able to run the football better in 2022 thanks to their offensive line. The unit has the potential to propel Detroit's offense into the top-10 in several offensive statistical categories. Detroit's front office has contributed significant financial resources to the offensive side of the football, so they must all deliver in 2022. Expect running backs D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams to be used plenty in the passing game. Quarterback Jared Goff should be able to keep defenses off-balance with the play-action pass, as the run game will keep opposing defenses honest.  Biggest question:  Defensively, this team is very young and will be counting on second-year players to shoulder the load on defense. Alim McNeill should become more of a force along the interior of the defensive line. Linebacker Derrick Barnes has all the tools physically to play the position well. He is still elevating his game on the mental side, specifically reading plays and recognizing his coverage and gap responsibilities. The biggest question mark will be if cornerback Jeff Okudah can stay healthy and contribute at a high level. He is returning from an Achilles tear and had a decent preseason. The third-year defensive back has faced a strong amount of criticism early in his career, as the Lions invested the No. 3 overall pick on him back in 2020. ):  https://www.si.com/nfl/vikings/news/nfc-north-preview-key-strength-question-vikings-packers-lions-bears
