Week 5 Predictions

SN Iyer (Panthers at Lions (-9, 45 o/u):  The Lions are the feistier felines in this matchup with their defense playing well and the running game dominating with David Montgomery. Jared Goff is also on point and faces a banged-up secondary. SN Bender (Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions (-8.5):  Lions coach Dan Campbell won't have to look far for motivation here – not after the Panthers rushed for 320 yards in a 37-23 victory against the Lions last season. This year, Detroit has the best rushing defense in the NFL (60.5). That's going to cause Bryce Young problems on the road. It's a large spread – even for the Lions – but they cruise here. Biglead (LIONS (-9) over PANTHERS:  It's bizarro world as the Lions have turned into one of the safest bets in sports and flirting with double-digit spreads in their favor. And yet when you survey the entire league, it feels entirely warranted. Going into Green Bay and humiliating the Packers was impressive. But what really stands out is how easy it looked. This team can run the ball, has a bonafide budding superstar in Sam LaPorta, and Jared Goff does enough to win every week. If the defense can put pressure on whomever starts for the hapless Panthers, this could be over before halftime and Dan Campbell isn't one to let up on the gas. CBS Prisco (Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions (-9):  The Panthers are 0-4 and Bryce Young is struggling. Now they face a Lions team that will be rested having played last Thursday. Detroit impressed in blowing out Green Bay on the road, with the defense coming up big. CBS Sullivan (Panthers at Lions - Detroit is coming into this game with the rest advantage after playing last Thursday, which is just one of many angles that make them an appealing bet as they host the Panthers on Sunday. The Lions running game should continue to feast in this game with Carolina allowing 4.7 yards per rush attempt (29th in the NFL) and the passing game could get a boost with the return of Jameson Williams, who recently had his suspension reduced. It's unclear how much/if at all Williams will play, but the vibes for the Lions are sky high, while the Panthers are still searching for their first win. CBS Dajani (Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions (-10) - It's a big number, but the Panthers are not very good. Carolina lost by 14 points in Week 1, three points in Week 2, 10 points in Week 3 and eight points in Week 4. Both double-digit losses came on the road, so that's why Vegas is expecting another one here. Bryce Young has potential, but we can't ignore the slow start he's had. The No. 1 overall pick averages 167.7 passing yards per game, which ranks No. 32 in the league, and has a 24.9 QBR, which ranks No. 34. His offensive line has done him no favors and his wideouts are a position group the front office is already looking to improve. I thought this team was going to be a sleeper in the division. I'm ready to admit I was wrong on that.  As for Detroit, the Lions are coming off of an impressive road win over the Green Bay Packers, and had a long week to prepare for this matchup. They have won each of their past two games by 14 points, and now Jameson Williams could be on the way back. Carolina is 0-3-1 ATS this year.
