Week 7 Predictions

SN Bender (Detroit Lions at Baltimore Ravens (-2.5):  This is the best game on the day-time slate. The Lions are one of three teams with a top-10 offense and top-10 defense — San Francisco and Philadelphia are the others. Detroit is 3-0 S/U on the road and 5-1 ATS this season. Baltimore is close to being a top-10 on both sides, but they rank 11th in offense. Look for the Lions' defensive line to frustrate Lamar Jackson, who are home after a three-game road stint that included a trip to London. Get this line with this value now.  Pick: Lions 24, Ravens 21):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-picks-predictions-week-7/27e53388f3b185f9004c77c0

CBS Breech (Detroit (5-1) at Baltimore (4-2):  I can't remember the last time the Lions played in a somewhat important game this late in the season. Sure, it's not actually that late in the season, but I'm still counting this as important because Lions fans haven't really gotten a chance to watch any meaningful games past the month of September over the past TWENTY YEARS.  You can try and point to last year when the Lions beat the Packers in Week 18 and yes, that was a huge win, but it meant nothing for the Lions from a playoff perspective because they had already been eliminated from postseason contention before that game kicked off.  For most of the past 20 years, if you mentioned the words "Lions" and "playoffs" in the same sentence, you would get laughed at mercilessly and then told to go home. For most of the past 20 years, it felt like the Lions were already eliminated from the playoff contention before Week 7 even rolled around, BUT NOT THIS YEAR. This year, the Lions are tied for the best record in the NFL heading into Week 7, which marks the first time since 1993 that they've had the best record or been tied for the best record this late in the season. If you are under the age of 30, YOU HAVE NEVER WITNESSED THIS.  The Lions are dominating because Jared Goff has somehow morphed into Tom Brady... or he might actually just be Tom Brady in a Jared Goff mask. At this point, I can't rule anything out. All I know is that Goff has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL over the past calendar year and I'm not sure the Ravens can slow him down. Goff has more completions of 20 yards or more this year than any other quarterback in the NFL, which I didn't think was possible, because I thought every Dolphins play went for at least 20 yards, but I was clearly mistaken.  As good as Goff has been, this week will be his biggest test and that's because he'll be going up against a Ravens defense that is surrendering just 163.2 passing yards per game, which ranks second in the NFL.  On the flip side, I'm not sure how much stock I should put into that number considering who the Ravens have faced so far this season. In six games, they've gone up against two rookies who were making their first career start (C.J. Stroud, Dorian Thompson-Robinson), Joe Burrow with one calf, Kenny Pickett, Gardner Minshew off the bench after Anthony Richardson got hurt and a combination of Ryan Tannehill/Malik Willis in London.  I don't think the Ravens secondary has truly been tested this year and we'll find out this week just how good they really are. I think they're good, but I think Goff is better.  The pick: Lions 27-24 over Ravens):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-7-picks-and-predictions-dolphins-get-wild-win-over-eagles-lions-beat-ravens-in-thriller/

Biglead (LIONS (+3) over RAVENS:  Hell has frozen over and even serious pundits are saying the team from Detroit is a legitimate Super Bowl contender. They dominated the Buccaneers on the road to stay unblemished away from Ford Field and their depleted defense continues to prove itself up to the challenge. Lamar Jackson is a different puzzle altogether but he hasn't exactly been scoring points in bunches this season. Jared Goff does not jump off the page until opponents realize they are down double-digits and his offense is bleeding the clock one annoying third-down conversion at a time. David Montogemery and Jahmyr Gibbs have injury concerns and this is the least confident we've felt picking the Lions in a long time-- yet they've more than earned the benefit of the doubt. Lions 27, Ravens 24):  https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/nfl-week-7-predictions-picks-spread-lines-01hcytf9w3rk

CBS Sullivan (Lions at Ravens:  Sneaky possible Super Bowl preview in the 1 p.m. window. While it's conceivable that both of these teams represent their respective conferences in Las Vegas in February, the Lions are the better football team, so I'll be more than happy to put a field goal in my pocket with a team that is 3-0 SU and ATS on the road in 2023. The key matchup will be Detroit's offense (No. 4 scoring unit in the NFL) going up against Baltimore's stout defense. The Ravens have struggled to hold leads over the past few seasons, which has me siding with the Lions offense. John Harbaugh's club is also coming off a matchup in London where it ran 70 plays (tied for second-most this season), so fatigue could also be a factor here. Projected score: Lions 24, Ravens 20):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-7-odds-picks-lions-continue-rolling-vs-ravens-dolphins-carve-up-eagles-injury-plagued-secondary/

Pro Picks: Despite a banged-up Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars should stay on winning track vs. the Saints (DETROIT AT BALTIMORE: The Lions (5-1) are off to their best start since 2011 and looking to improve to 4-0 on the road. The Ravens (4-2) try to avoid a London hangover. They can’t settle for six field goals against Jared Goff and Detroit’s offense.  LIONS, 26-22):  https://apnews.com/article/nfl-pro-picks-week-7-6245b58710d55faf1ae2b625d1abe387

O'HARA'S WEEK 7 PREVIEW: Lions to face another tough road test in Baltimore (Lions-Ravens prediction:
The Lions are 3-0 on the road, and two of those wins were over first-place teams – Kansas City and Tampa Bay. The Ravens are a tough team. So are the Lions.  The Ravens are favored by 3 points.  My pick: Lions 24, Ravens 16.):  https://www.detroitlions.com/news/o-hara-s-week-7-preview-lions-to-face-another-tough-road-test-in-baltimore

Yard barker Week 7 NFC North predictions: Lions earn another 'prove it' win (Detroit Lions (5-1) at Baltimore Ravens (4-2): Following an impressive Week 6 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (20-6), the Lions will have another chance at a statement win Sunday against the Ravens. The Lions enter shorthanded on both sides of the ball, especially on offense, which could play a significant role in who walks away the winner in Week 7.   A trio of running backs, David Montgomery (ribs), Craig Reynolds (hamstring/toe) and rookie Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring), are questionable, as is tight end Sam LaPorta (calf).  However, according to Jeff Darlington of ESPN, the Lions expect LaPorta to be active. Even without LaPorta, the presence of WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams should offer quarterback Jared Goff enough to make up for the lack of running back depth, and he'll need the weaponry against a Ravens defense ranked second in the NFL in yards per play allowed (4.0).  The Lions defense isn't far behind the Ravens, allowing 4.7 yards a play (6th), and they'll contain QB Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense, averaging only 22.2 points per game (15th).  Meanwhile, Goff and company will do just enough to grab an impressive road win against a Baltimore team still weary from its trip to London.   PREDICTION: Lions, 23-17):  https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/week_7_nfc_north_predictions_lions_earn_another_prove_it_win/s1_13132_39410164

SN Iyer (Lions at Ravens (-2.5, 44.5 o/u):  The Lions are taking some hits in the running game and that won't help Jared Goff facing an improving Ravens' defense that can handle and contain the middle of the field in the passing game. Lamar Jackson's running is a tough draw and Detroit also won't be able to cover Mark Andrews well.  Pick: Ravens win 23-20 and cover the spread.):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-picks-predictions-against-spread-week-7/ee37a1c9faaf898d1d62c7e6

CBS Prisco (Detroit Lions at Baltimore Ravens (-3):  This is one of the better games of the week. The Lions are playing back-to-back road games, but the Ravens are coming off a London trip. The Ravens haven't clicked yet on offense, but it's coming. The problem is the Detroit defense is really good. Even so, look for the Ravens and Lamar Jackson to find a way to win this one as the offense actually shows better.  Pick: Ravens 23, Lions 17):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/priscos-week-7-nfl-picks-jaguars-edge-saints-ravens-snap-lions-hot-streak-eagles-outduel-dolphins/
