NFL QB Index, Week 5: Patrick Mahomes rises to No. 1; Geno Smith skyrockets into top 10 (11. Jared Goff (2022 stats: 4 games | 60.9 pct | 1,126 pass yds | 7.5 ypa | 11 pass TD | 3 INT | 16 rush yds | 0 rush TD | 1 fumble):  Goff has led the Lions to 140 points this season, the most in team history over their first four outings. He can't save a defense allowing 141. The quarterback's touchdown count (11) sits tied with Mahomes and Lamar in the throwing department. He still activates the occasional time bomb (i.e., Sunday's pick-six), but Goff lobs beauties weekly. He put up 378 yards and four touchdowns against the Seahawks with D’Andre Swift, Amon-Ra St. Brown, D.J. Chark, Jonah Jackson and Halapoulivaati Vaitai out of the lineup.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-qb-index-week-5-2022-season-rankings

QB Power Rankings: Geno Smith enters top 20 for Week 5 (17. Jared Goff:  Back from the dead! While a good chunk of Goff's production has come from behind, he's made it work with any combo of pass targets, allowing the Lions to stay close in every one of their games despite a porous defense. Once again, Goff reminds us that, with a sturdy line, he can make all the throws. Close Calls Happening At Record-Setting Pace In NFL (LIGHT UP THE SCOREBOARD - No team has ever had quite a start to the season like the Detroit Lions who are lighting up scoreboards when they are on offense and defense.  The Lions are the 30th team in the Super Bowl era to average at least 35 points per game through the first four games of a season and the 18th to allow at least 35 points per game. But they are the first to do both in the same season.  The previous 29 teams to score at least 140 points in their first four games had a combined record of 109-7 (.940), with only the 2002 Chiefs failing to have a winning record before the Lions did it this year while losing three of four games.  The 281 combined points in Detroit's games are the most for a team through four games.  Jared Goff is tied for the league lead with 11 TD passes and Jamaal Williams leads the NFL with six TD runs. The Lions are the sixth team in the Super Bowl era to have the league leader in passing and rushing TDs, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.):  https://pro32.ap.org/article/close-calls-happening-record-setting-pace-nfl

NFL Hype Rankings, Week 5: Is Jared Goff good again? Is Cooper Rush the Cowboys' latest QB find? (4.  Jared Goff is one of the most explosive quarterbacks in the NFL:  A big part of why the Detroit Lions were able to extricate two firsts and a third-round pick in exchange for 33-year-old Matthew Stafford was because they were willing to take back Goff and his onerous contract. Goff’s $134 million, four-year extension, signed in 2019 after a 13-win season, was an albatross when the young quarterback’s level of play dipped, carrying salary cap hits of $30-plus million into 2024.  Releasing Goff in 2021 or 2022 would have incurred absurd dead salary cap space. This tied him to Detroit’s rebuild for at least two years. He was mostly the guy Los Angeles no longer wanted in 2021. This fall, however, he’s been significantly better.  Here’s where 2022 Goff ranks among NFL starters:  Passing touchdowns: 11, tied for first, Passing yards: 1,126, third, Adjusted yards per attempt: 8.0, seventh, Passer rating: 99.9, seventh, Average throw distance: 9.2 yards downfield, seventh.  Welp, it’s a small sample size but the results are clear: Jared Goff is a viable NFL starter in Detroit.  Buy or sell? Buy, somehow.  Goff’s accuracy has taken a hit, but his efficiency has risen because he’s willing to trust his targets downfield. His average throw distance had decreased every year since 2017, dwindling to a league-low 6.4 yards last fall. This year he’s back to Pro Bowl levels of passing confidence and thriving in the intermediate range; here’s what he did Sunday without Amon-Ra St. Brown in the lineup.  That’s encouraging! Goff isn’t buoyed by big yards-after catch numbers. Instead, he’s making the kinds of throws that had the Rams so excited about him five years ago. It’s not ludicrous to think that at 27 years old he made lasting adjustments to his game.  Keeping that pace will be tough, but the Lions have surrounded him with help — including rookie Jameson Williams, who’ll make his NFL debut at some point in 2022 after ending his Alabama career with a torn ACL. Goff might just be good enough to help him thrive once he finally takes the field.):  https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-rankings-week-5-buy-sell-aaron-rodgers-packers-jared-goff-cooper-rush

NFL offensive line rankings: Eagles, Chiefs lead the top five (3. Detroit Lions:  Rarely does a team without an excellent quarterback hover near the top of all the offensive efficiency rankings. Investments with first-round picks at both tackle positions (LT Taylor Decker, RT Penei Sewell) and at center (Frank Ragnow) have paid off for Detroit.   The Lions' offense is seventh in DVOA and is averaging 35 points per game. The offensive line, even through all its injuries, continues to open up huge rushing lanes for Lions running backs. The line is fourth in adjusted rushing yards and has allowed only five sacks on QB Jared Goff.   The Lions have the most yards per play, and there's no surprise why: Their line helps them pile up explosive runs and deep play-action pass attempts.):  https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/nfl-offensive-line-rankings-eagles-chiefs-lead-the-top-five
