Week 8 Power Rankings

Walter football (25. Detroit Lions NFL Power Rankings Detroit Lions (1-5) - Previously: 25.  Underrated NFL Team: See why the Lions are an underrated NFL team in our Overrated-Underrated page.):  https://walterfootball.com/nflpowerrankings.php

Fox sports (28. Detroit Lions (1-5): It looked for all the world like the Lions were going to stage an upset bid in Dallas — right up until they turned the ball over on four straight fourth-quarter possessions. The offensive implosion against the Cowboys pass rush totally nullified a fairly solid day from their much-maligned defense. If it ain't one thing, it's another.):  https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/nfl-power-rankings-chaos-is-a-ladder-up-for-seahawks-down-for-packers

FTW (29.  Detroit Lions (Last week’s rank: 25):  The defense has been bad all year. Now the offense is falling apart thanks to injuries and Jared Goff’s expected regression to the mean. Detroit had to play the bulk of Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys without D’Andre Swift, Amon-Ra St. Brown, or DJ Chark, leaving the heavy lifting to TJ Hockenson (OK!), Kalif Raymond, and Brock Wright (oh no). That’s not really a problem, though; the Lions have sunk their way to the top of 2023’s draft order, where a bounty of quarterback help awaits.):  https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-power-rankings-week-8-packers-buccaneers-giants

ESPN (31. Detroit Lions (1-5) (Week 7 ranking: 31):  The Lions' defense has been really bad. Yes, they've seen improvement week-to-week, but they're still allowing a league-high 32.33 points per game. The offense and defense have failed to get on the same page at any point this season, but even if they're putting up big points, the defense has to be able to stop the other team -- this is a big reason for the 1-5 record. -- Eric Woodyard):  https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34830163/nfl-week-8-power-rankings-1-32-poll-2022-season-stats

Yahoo (31. Detroit Lions (1-5, LW: 28):  The Lions were winning at the Vikings with 1:14 left in Week 3. They were 74 seconds from being 2-1, in a game they controlled, after an offseason of hope. They decided to try a long field goal, which coach Dan Campbell later said was a mistake, missed that field goal and the Vikings came back to win. Since the moment Campbell decided to try that field goal, the Lions have been outscored 108-51 (and 45 of those Lions points came in one game) and they went from being on the verge of 2-1 to 1-5. Campbell, who went 3-13-1 last season, might not be able to survive another three- or four-win season.):  https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl-power-rankings-jets-and-giants-probably-cant-keep-this-up-but-who-cares-033337024.html

USA Today (31. Lions (27): RB Jamaal Williams' first career lost fumble came at a rather inopportune time – first-and-goal from the 1-yard line – in Sunday's loss at Dallas. But it kept alive a new streak: Detroit, which scored at least one TD in this season's first 11 quarters, hasn't found the end zone in the last eight.):  https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/columnist/nate-davis/2022/10/25/nfl-power-rankings-week-8-2022-packers-buccaneers-tom-brady-aaron-rodgers/10594665002/

NFL.com (31. Detroit Lions (Previous rank: No. 28):  The Lions returned to competitive football after their pre-bye thumping at Foxborough, but the results remain the same for the Fightin' Campbells. Five turnovers by the offense were too much to overcome in a 24-6 loss to the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. The cruelest giveaway? A goal-line fumble by Jamaal Williams when Detroit appeared poised to take a lead in the fourth quarter. "I'm frustrated because we're losing, just like I was last year," said Campbell. "But I'm not down, I'm not losing confidence. I'm not going to go hide in a corner." A fact the coach might want to hide under a Honolulu blue rug at team headquarters: The Lions fell to 4-18-1 in his tenure.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-power-rankings-week-8-2022-nfl-season

Athlon sports (31. Detroit Lions (Last week: 26):  This was once the highest-scoring team in the league. Now they’ve scored just six points in two games and look like the same old Lions. Not great Dan.):  https://athlonsports.com/nfl/nfl-power-rankings

SN (32. Detroit Lions 1-5 (31):  The Lions, after all their "Hard Knocks" feel-good hype, are now back down in dumps from their past under Dan Campbell. Their defense isn't stopping anything when needed and the offense keeps cracking with injuries.):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-power-rankings-week-8/nsnqcjrborjarant9jyscr4l

CBS (32. Lions:  The optimism from the summer and Hard Knocks, coupled with the early offensive showing, has faded in a big way. Dan Campbell faces a real challenge getting this thing turned around.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-8-power-rankings-sinking-bucs-packers-can-learn-from-phillies-and-get-right-make-run-in-playoffs/

PFN (Week 8 NFL Power Rankings: Tier 6 | Unadulteraded Awfulness - Some of the teams in Tier 6 are like a film so bad that you can’t help but watch it. Others are bad but also don’t have any redeeming qualities, so we don’t even want to tune into their games unless we have to.  Detroit Lions - The Lions are so good at tanking. So often, they look so close to being a decent football team. But in key moments, they pee down their own leg to lose football games. Jamaal Williams fumbled at the Cowboys’ 1-yard line down by four points in the fourth quarter, and Detroit went on to lose the game 24-6.  The final score wasn’t indicative of how close this game was for so long. But once the fumble happened, the floodgates opened. Dallas scored on the ensuing drive, and then their unbelievable pass rush teed off on Jared Goff, ending the game in a flash.):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nfl-power-rankings-week-8-2022/
