Week 5 Power Rankings

USA Today (19. Lions (14): They've scored 140 points and surrendered 141. Keep this up, and they'll give up a league record 599 points ... but, like Sunday, at least they'll lose in entertaining fashion.):  https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/columnist/nate-davis/2022/10/04/nfl-power-rankings-week-5-2022-eagles-bills-chiefs/8160532001/

Walter football (19. Detroit Lions NFL Power Rankings Detroit Lions (1-3) - Previously: 15.
Underrated NFL Team: See why the Lions are an underrated NFL team in our Overrated-Underrated page.):  https://walterfootball.com/nflpowerrankings.php

FTW (19.  Detroit Lions (Last week’s rank: 16):  The offense is great, which is not something I expected to say about a Lions team led by Jared Goff. The defense is not, which is less surprising. Detroit got thoroughly picked apart by Geno Smith and Rashaad Penny, which suggests there’s tremendous value in betting the over whenever you see Honolulu Blue on the field. Either way, few teams in the league are as fun to watch as Dan Campbell’s undermanned crew.):  https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-power-rankings-week-5-bills-chiefs-eagles

SI (22. Detroit Lions (1-3):  This team is loaded with potential but is getting absolutely gashed defensively. Currently, Detroit is dead last in points surrendered (48 against the Seahawks, 38 against the Eagles). As good as offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has been in maximizing the weapons, the Lions are not built to win like Texas Tech.):  https://www.si.com/nfl/2022/10/04/nfl-week-4-power-rankings

Yahoo (24. Detroit Lions (1-3, LW: 19):  The Lions' defense is just dreadful. The Seahawks aren't good on offense and they rang up 555 yards. Head coach Dan Campbell said he won't make a move with defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, but it will be unavoidable if the defense keeps playing like this. The offense, on the other hand, is legit if it can put up 45 points without D'Andre Swift, Amon-Ra St. Brown and D.J. Chark. The good offense/bad defense combo has led to some wild shootouts.):  https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl-power-rankings-baker-mayfield-has-fallen-apart-for-the-hopeless-panthers-030610748.html

Athlon Sports (24. Detroit Lions (Last week: 16):  This is the highest-scoring team in the league and yet… they’re just 1-3. Entertainingly bad is better than being unwatchably bad but that’s not the kind of toughness in one-score games that Dan Campbell would like to see out of his team.):  https://athlonsports.com/nfl/nfl-power-rankings

NFL.com (24.  Detroit Lions (Previous rank: No. 16):  You can have all the grit in the world, but if you don't have defense, none of it matters. Detroit continued to hemorrhage yards on Sunday, surrendering 555 of them to Geno Smith and a Seahawks attack that won't be confused with the 2007 Patriots anytime soon. The Lions' combination of high-flying offense and dismal defense is putting the team in the record books. According to NFL Media research, Detroit's total of 281 points -- 140 scored, 141 allowed -- are the most by any team in the first four games of a season in NFL history. The team deserves recognition for putting 45 points on Seattle with D'Andre Swift and Amon-Ra St. Brown out with injuries -- but if they allow 35.3 points per game, they'll be picking in the top five yet again come April.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-power-rankings-week-5-2022-nfl-season

ESPN (25. Detroit Lions (1-3) (Week 4 ranking: 25) - Defensive efficiency: 21.8, League rank: 32nd.  The biggest issue on defense is ... points allowed.  Detroit currently leads the league in scoring but also allows the most points in the league. The defense struggles in yards per rush, red zone efficiency and third-down conversions -- ranking last in all categories. Through four games this season, Detroit has allowed 141 points (35.3 points per game), which is the second most in franchise history -- trailing only the 0-16 squad from 2008. The Lions need to make some changes immediately, and head coach Dan Campbell knows it. -- Eric Woodyard):  https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34685655/nfl-week-5-power-rankings-2022-1-32-poll-rating-defenses

Fox sports (25. Detroit Lions: How is it possible that a team averaging 35 points per game is currently sitting on a 1-3 record, with that one win coming against the lowly Commanders? (A topic Carmen Vitali touched on yesterday!) It's even more impressive the Lions were able to put up 45 points on Sunday considering who they didn't have — Amon-Ra St. Brown, D.J. Chark and D'Andre Swift, among others. But until they find a way to get a stop, it's hard to say how much any of it matters.):  https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/nfl-power-rankings-eagles-cowboys-move-up-steelers-colts-in-trouble

Touchdown wire (26. Detroit Lions (1-3) (Last week: No. 24):  The Lions have the ignominious distinction of losing an offensive showdown with Geno Smith. The positive from the first four weeks is that Detroit’s offense is more prolific than initially imagined. The downside is the Lions still struggle to close out games, which is why they keep tumbling in the power rankings.):  https://draftwire.usatoday.com/2022/10/03/bryce-young-injury-update-alabama-nick-saban-nfl-draft-2/

Bally sports (26. Detroit Lions (1-3, LW: 21): How is defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn still employed after overseeing a unit that made the Seahawks look like the ’99 Rams?):  https://www.ballysports.com/national/news/nfl-power-rankings-no-1-eagles-flying-above-the-competition

SN (29. Detroit Lions 1-3 (25):  The Lions have proved they can score with anyone, even when Jared Goff is down several weapons. The offensive line is a sturdy backbone for protecting Goff and opening holes for Jamaal Williams and others. Unfortunately, the defense can't do much of anything around Aidan Hutchinson.):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-power-rankings-eagles-chiefs-cowboys-broncos-steelers/hnymq1iqjs60eyob8mue5wbv

CBS (29. Lions:  They are fun to watch since they score a lot, but that defense is awful. They can't stop anybody, which is going to make for a long season.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-5-power-rankings-all-hail-the-nfc-east-for-now-as-cowboys-crack-top-10-giants-make-sizable-leap/

PFN Week 5 NFL Power Rankings: Eagles lone team at the top while Broncos remain steady in a loss (Tier 6 | Definitely bad team - It would be an absolute shock if any of the teams in Tier 6 made a push for the playoffs, but anything is possible in a league with so much randomness.  Detroit Lions:  The Detroit Lions feel like a mid-tier Big 12 team from back in the day. They’re endlessly entertaining. Detroit scores points in bunches and keeps games competitive and fun no matter who seems to line up across from them.  But this is still a team that hasn’t learned how to win. They’re not tanking, at least not purposefully. But they’re well on their way to being an entertaining team with a solid foundation who could have a chance to nab their franchise signal-caller in the 2023 NFL Draft.):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nfl-power-rankings-week-5-2022/
