He is far from the prototypical size we think of for the position, but his foot speed and coverage chops make him a good option for immediate snaps in the slot at the next level. However, he has plenty of experience on the back end as well, making him a diverse coverage player in Aaron Glenn’s defense. It’s also worth mentioning that C.J. Gardner-Johnson was on a one-year deal, and Tracy Walker’s contract expires after 2024. 62. Detroit Lions: Quinton Mitchell, CB, Toledo: Cornerbacks who are 6’1″, 200 pounds, and run a 4.3×40 usually don’t last this long on the board. However, they’re usually not playing at Toledo, either. Small-school players must test out of the water, and if Mitchell shows explosiveness, agility, and speed at the NFL Combine, it will quell any concerns about the level of competition he played against at Toledo.) Walter football Charlie (29. Detroit Lions: DE Chop Robinson, OLB/DE, Penn State. The Lions could use a speed rusher to go with Aidan Hutchinson. Charles Harris and the Okwara brothers are free agents after the season, so Detroit will need to add some edge rushers to replace them. Robinson (6-3, 250) plays defensive end for Penn State, but for the NFL, he may have to move to outside linebacker given his size. If Robinson is any smaller than his listed numbers, he definitely will be too small to play end on an every-down basis. In 2023, Robinson has nine tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble and a pass batted playing in five games. He recorded 5.5 sacks, 10 tackles for a loss, two passes batted, one forced fumble and 26 tackle in 2022. Playing for Maryland in 2021, he had 19 tackles and two sacks. 62. Detroit Lions: CB Max Melton. Jerry Jacobs has been phenomenal and a brilliant undrafted free agent signing by the Lions. Cam Sutton has played well also, but Detroit could use a third corner to go with them. So far this year, Melton has recorded 29 tackles, two interceptions and six passes broken up. He went under the radar in 2022 due to playing on a bad Rutgers team that failed to qualify for a bowl game. He totaled 33 tackles, two interceptions and nine passes broken up on the year. While Max Melton had not received a lot of media attention, he caught fire in the scouting community for the 2023 NFL Draft. Some evaluators said they thought Melton could have been one of the top cornerback prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft and had a shot at being the first one off the board. However, Melton went back to school. Melton is listed at 6-foot, 190 pounds, but pro sources say he might be more like 5-foot-11, 188 pounds. They state Melton has excellent speed and is super fast at shutting down the deep part of the field.
