NFL QB Index, Week 9: Jalen Hurts back on top; Patrick Mahomes slips to No. 3 (10. Jared Goff (2023 stats: 8 games | 68.3 pct | 2,174 pass yds | 7.4 ypa | 12 pass TD | 5 INT | 13 rush yds | 2 rush TD | 2 fumbles):  Monday night was the first time where it seemed to me a defense was in Goff’s head. The loss to Baltimore a week earlier didn’t quite match that dynamic, solely because the Lions were facing such a deficit, their offense ended up being handcuffed by the scoreboard. But against the Raiders, the presence of Maxx Crosby clearly rattled Goff. His stat line was still solid -- 26 of 37, 272 yards, one touchdown and one interception -- but he lacked the confidence I’ve seen in so many of his games this season. His pick-six appeared to be an attempt to throw the ball away, but Goff didn’t do a good enough job of getting rid of the ball in a safe area. I’m a little concerned by a sudden lack of composure. Detroit still won, but after two bumpy outings, the Lions need Goff to get back to a place of assuredness.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-qb-index-week-9-jalen-hurts-back-on-top-patrick-mahomes-slips-to-no-3

2023 NFL QB Power Rankings: Will Levis skyrockets (11. Jared Goff DETROIT LIONS QB:  He's got an underrated thing for tossing pick-sixes, but he bounced back nicely to help Detroit cruise past the Raiders in prime time and get back in the "W" column. Give him adequate protection, and he's playoff-caliber. Ranking NFL teams currently in the playoff picture (8. Detroit Lions (6-2, 1st in NFC North):  I got a ton of hate for listing the Lions as "pretenders" following their horrific performance against the Ravens in Week 7. It was just one game, but immediately going down 28-0 and tying the largest halftime deficit in NFL history by a team with the best record in the league this late in a season is going to raise some questions.   Detroit got back on track against the lowly Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night behind Jahmyr Gibbs' breakout performance, but it wasn't the beatdown it probably should have been. The Lions were so much better than this Raiders team that recorded just 157 yards of total offense. Detroit is still a good squad and undoubtedly the best in the NFC North, but I wanted the Lions to make a move for a defensive back at the trade deadline. Can they contain explosive offenses? The Week 10 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers will be a fun one to watch.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/ranking-nfl-teams-currently-in-the-playoff-picture-eagles-chiefs-still-looking-super-dont-give-up-on-49ers/

NFL backup QB rankings: Which teams are living dangerously? (2. Detroit Lions:  If something happens to Jared Goff, boy do they have alternatives. Now with his seventh team, former Pro Bowler Teddy Bridgewater is 33-32 during his 10-year career and has earned immediate respect in every locker room he’s graced. Seven-year vet Nate Sudfeld is also on the active roster but has never started in the NFL. David Blough, who has seven NFL starts (5 for Detroit) and shown ample moxie, is on the practice squad. Meanwhile, third-round rookie Hendon Hooker was in the Heisman Trophy discussion for the University of Tennessee last year before suffering a torn ACL last November. He’s been on the reserve/non-football injury list all year and seems likely to remain there into 2024.):  https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/columnist/nate-davis/2023/11/03/nfl-backup-quarterback-rankings-team-bears-packers/71433162007/
