NFL Week 4 questions, takeaways: Big games for Jayden Daniels, Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry (Lions - Has Jared Goff found his groove? It sure looks like it. After throwing four interceptions in the first three games, Goff went turnover-free in Week 4 against Seattle. Goff finished with 292 passing yards, while completing a perfect 18-for-18 of his attempts to help the Lions improve to 3-1. He also displayed his versatility, throwing for two touchdowns and scoring his first career touchdown off a reception from WR Amon-Ra St. Brown during the third quarter. He joined Gary Danielson (1984) as the only Lions QBs to have a passing and a receiving touchdown in the same game.  Most surprising performance: Offensive line. Lions Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow was ruled out with a partially torn pectoral muscle, but the offensive line stepped up with veteran lineman Graham Glasgow shifting over to center and Kayode Awosika starting at left guard. Their protection helped Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery combine for three rushing TDs in the first half. Eye-popping stat(s): Monday was a great night for Detroit duos. Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown became the fifth duo to each have a pass and receiving TD in the same game in NFL history thanks to a trick play in the third quarter. 2024 NFL Season, Week 4: What We Learned from Monday doubleheader (Detroit Lions 42, Seattle Seahawks 29:  1. Goff goes perfect. Jared Goff finished 18 for 18 for 292 yards and two touchdowns, including a majestic play-action pass that saw Goff deliver a strike amid a collapsing pocket to a wide-open Jameson Williams for a 70-yard score. Goff was as sharp as ever, posting a completion percentage over expected of +21.9. No matter where you look, Goff's stats were sparkling from this game, a dreamlike product of offensive coordinator Ben Johnson's game plan, which also relied on the emphatic rushing efforts of Jahmyr Gibbs (14 carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns) and David Montgomery (12 carries for 40 yards and one touchdown). Speaking of Johnson, after dialing up a hook and lateral in Week 3 for a score, he reached into his bag of tricks once again Monday night, calling a receiver throwback pass, which Amon-Ra St. Brown threw perfectly to Goff for a receiving score. Yes, Goff finished with more receiving touchdowns (one) than incompletions (zero). It was that kind of night for the Lions, who followed up a gritty Week 3 win on the road with an explosive, spectacular showing that began with their running game, but ended with the excellence of their quarterback.  2,  Seahawks finish on losing end of shootout. Geno Smith tried valiantly, posting gaudy passing totals, repeatedly delivering under pressure and giving every ounce of effort in his body through the final play. He even shook off a crushing blow on Seattle's ill-fated closing drive to fire one last heave to the end zone, which was unfortunately intercepted. Seattle's running game did its part, too, piling up 133 yards on the ground, including a team-best 80 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries for Kenneth Walker III. But in games like these, offenses have to be nearly perfect to keep pace, and Seattle simply couldn't do so, with its first-half turnover (via a DK Metcalf fumble) giving the Lions enough of an early edge to sustain through the final seconds of regulation. If we've learned one thing about these Seahawks through four weeks, it's that they can score, and a lot of it has to do with Smith. If Mike Macdonald can get the defense right, they're going to be a tough draw for most opponents.  3. Lions need to correct some things defensively. Any time a unit gives up over 500 yards of offense, it's not a good sign. A 50-percent conversion rate allowed on third down isn't great, either. It's fair to point to the history of this matchup, which produced a shootout that ended in overtime last season, but it isn't just about yards surrendered. Detroit also had a bit of a problem with penalties Monday night. The focus begins with talented rookie Terrion Arnold, who needs to clean up his coverage techniques, which have seen him get flagged eight times, including three times Monday night. Carlton Davis has also been a bit of a flag magnet, drawing four penalties (three accepted, one offset) Monday night. As a unit, the Lions were flagged nine times defensively, frequently giving the Seahawks bonus chances to keep drives alive. NFL Game Recaps: Week 4 (Lions 42, Seahawks 29 - Perfection. That is a word that has likely never described Jared Goff despite the great moments in his career. That word is appropriate for Goff in this game, as he completed every single pass he attempted. He was 18-of-18, and he didn’t just dink and dunk. He took several deep shots, hitting Jameson Williams with a 70-yard bomb. He also caught a touchdown pass on the Philly Special.  The Lions were able to establish multiple two-touchdown leads in this game, thanks to Goff’s perfection and a crucial error by D.K. Metcalf. The star Seattle receiver enjoyed a great performance, but committed a gaffe in the early stages. Down 7-0, Metcalf fought for extra yardage in field goal range, but lost a fumble. The Lions took over and scored a touchdown via Jahmyr Gibbs to give themselves their first two-touchdown advantage of the evening.  This game went back and forth in the second half, with the two teams combining for 43 points following halftime. The Seahawks, however, could never quite catch up, failing to draw to within fewer than eight points. Their defense couldn’t get off the field at all, with Goff completing every pass, and Gibbs and David Montgomery churning out positive gains on their 26 combined runs.  The Lions had their doubters heading into this game, as they suffered a defeat versus Tampa Bay two weeks ago. Goff hadn’t played his best heading into this contest, but he certainly made amends for his mediocre performances in this contest.  The Seahawks lost their first game of the year. CBS (Grades:  A-. Lions - The Lions offense played a nearly perfect game and that was mostly thanks to Jared Goff, who set an NFL record by completing 100% of his passes. Not only did the Lions QB go 18-for-18 for 292 yards and 2 touchdowns, but he also caught a TD pass. Goff's passing kept the Seahawks defense off-balance, which opened things up for Jahmyr Gibbs (78 yards, 2 TDs) and David Montgomery (40 yards, 1 TD) on the ground. Goff kept Seattle's secondary guessing by getting all of his pass-catchers involved: The Lions have five receivers who finished with at least 40 yards. The Lions defense surrendered more than 500 yards, but it did force two turnovers and make a fourth-down stop, which is all the help the offense needed.
