32 NFL observations after Week 5: Sam Darnold excels throwing deep while Jared Verse dominates rushing the passer (Detroit Lions - Despite the bye week, Aidan Hutchinson still has the most pressures of any player on the year. His 40 are 11 more than any other player.):  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-32-nfl-observations-after-week-5-sam-darnold-excels-throwing-deep-while-jared-verse-dominates-rushing-the-passer

RB Index, Week 6: Ranking top five NFL rushing duos (2. Lions:  The only RB pairing on this list, Gibbs and Montgomery comprise quite a 1-2 punch in the Motor City. Since the start of last season, they have combined for 30 touchdown runs and have both rushed for at least one TD in six different games. The Lions have also logged at least three rush TDs in a game five times -- most in the NFL -- in that span. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson utilizes each player's skill set so well: Montgomery hammers through the first level of the defense with his contact balance and leg drive on early downs, while Gibbs uses his speed inside and outside the tackles to get into space, where he does most of his damage. The Lions feature the sixth-best rushing attack entering Week 6, but if we're being honest, these two have yet to really get going.  7.  Jahmyr Gibbs (2024 stats: 4 games | 54 att | 285 rush yds | 5.3 ypc | 3 rush TDs | 11 rec | 76 rec yds | 1 rec TD | 0 fumbles lost):  Coming off the bye week, Gibbs and Co. face a Cowboys defense that has been stingy against the run in the last two weeks, allowing 92 yards on the ground to the Steelers in Week 5 and just 26 yards to the Giants in Week 4. In Gibbs' first career game against Dallas, a 20-19 Detroit loss in Week 17 of last season, the back had just 43 yards on 15 carries. He'll want to be a bigger factor in this one, and having fresh legs will certainly help.  13.  David Montgomery (2024 stats: 4 games | 63 att | 271 rush yds | 4.3 ypc | 4 rush TDs | 9 rec | 94 rec yds | 0 rec TDs | 0 fumbles lost): Montgomery has scored in each game this season with his best performance (22 carries, 105 rush yards) coming in the Week 3 win over Arizona. There are a ton of mouths to feed in Detroit's offense, but so far, when Montgomery's number has been called, he's answered with a positive gain. He'll need to continue that positive playmaking, as the Lions head out on back-to-back road games in Dallas and Minnesota out of the bye week.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/rb-index-week-6-ranking-top-five-nfl-rushing-duos

Lions dismiss motivation from controversial 2023 loss ahead of Cowboys rematch: 'We're on a mission':  https://www.nfl.com/news/lions-dismiss-motivation-from-controversial-2023-loss-ahead-of-cowboys-rematch-we-re-on-a-mission

Biggest questions: Bengals cooked? Ranking NFC North (Ranking the NFC North The NFC North is the best division in the NFL through five weeks. It's the only division where each team has a winning record -- headlined by the 5-0 Minnesota Vikings. The Detroit Lions have lost just one of four games played, the Bears have now won two straight and Jordan Love scored his first official victory of the 2024 season this past week for the Green Bay Packers. How should we rank these teams 1-4?  2. Lions (3-1): The Lions have one of the best offenses in the league. David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs are the top RB tandem, Sam LaPorta is already one of the top pass-catching tight ends in the NFL and Jared Goff has a couple of talented receivers in Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. While Detroit can outscore any team, this defense still ranks bottom 11 in the NFL. The Lions are a legitimate Super Bowl contender, but the secondary has to play better.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/answering-the-nfls-biggest-questions-ahead-of-week-6-are-bengals-cooked-ranking-nfc-north-and-dogs-barking/

2024 NFL Defense Rankings: Insights on Why Jets, Browns, and Broncos Lead the Way (18. Detroit Lions - Grade: C. Score: 53.  You may well look at an 18th-placed ranking for the Detroit Lions as a disappointment, but there are some positives in where they sit right now. Two years ago, this defense had consistently been among the worst in the league. In 2023, they improved dramatically in terms of their Defense+ score, and now they are holding firm in 2024. Sure, we would have liked to see more improvement, but at least they are not regressing.  By no means are we jumping up and down with excitement at a league-average ranking, but with an offense that can be explosive, just being solid on defense is good. They have not been great in terms of their success rate against the pass, and some of that will stem from a 25th-ranked sack rate. However, they rank seventh when it comes to pressure rate without blitzing, so those sacks may be just around the corner.):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nfl-defense-rankings/

NFL Offensive Line Rankings 2024: Stacking All 32 OLs Entering Week 6 (1. Detroit Lions - Starting five: LT Taylor Decker, LG Graham Glasgow, C Frank Ragnow, RG Kevin Zeitler, RT Penei Sewell.  All-Pro right tackle Penei Sewell spearheads Detroit’s dominant offensive line. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has figured out how to weaponize the former first-round pick in the run game, getting him into space and letting him go to work.  Frank Ragnow might be the NFL’s best center now that Jason Kelce is retired. However, he’s missing time after sustaining a partially torn pectoral muscle in Week 3. While Ragnow wanted to keep playing through the injury, Detroit was forced to recalibrate its offensive line in Week 4.  Starter Graham Glasgow shifted from left guard to center, while backup Kayode Awosika handled left guard. Ragnow is practicing this week and could return on Sunday.):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/best-offensive-lines-nfl-rankings/

QB Rankings:

2024 QB Power Rankings: Lamar Jackson takes over No. 1 (14. Jared Goff: A perfect 18-for-18 in his last outing, Goff is a borderline top-10 distributor when he's well-protected. Fortunately, the Lions also have so many splashy toys at his disposal. He should keep rising. (+3)):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2024-nfl-week-6-qb-power-rankings-lamar-jackson-takes-over-top-spot-jayden-daniels-approaches-top-five/

NFL quarterback rankings, Week 6: Maybe the Colts really are better off with Joe Flacco (4. It's mildly surprising these guys are this low - 17.
