Western Kentucky 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Reports Include Jaylen Hall, Brodric Martin, and Kahlef Hailassie (Brodric Martin, DT - Strengths: Large, wide-bodied two-gap lineman who takes up a lot of space in the middle of the field. Displays good first-step quickness, immediately gets his hands up, and keeps his feet moving. Starts with proper pad level, is tough to move off the point, and occupies multiple blockers in the middle of the line. Gives effort chasing the action, defeats blocks, and works to maintain leverage on opponents.  Weaknesses: Lumbering lineman with an average closing burst. Must develop more moves and become quicker disengaging from blocks. Can only play in a small area and more of a gap occupier rather than a playmaker.  Overall: Martin played well for Western Kentucky after transferring from North Alabama, but he’s a scheme-specific lineman whose sole purpose at the next level will be occupying blockers. Martin possesses the ability and temperament to line up as a nose tackle or zero-technique lineman.):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/western-kentucky-2023-nfl-draft-scouting-reports-include-jaylen-hall/

2023 NFL Draft: Day 3 fits for all 32 NFL teams (PITTSBURGH STEELERS: DI BRODRIC MARTIN, WESTERN KENTUCKY - The Steelers love long nose tackles, and Martin fits that bill in the draft class. The 6-foot-5, 330-pounder possesses 35-inch arms that he’s only just figuring out how to use, earning a 77.5 pass-rushing grade last season.) Joseph's Gems: The Jewels of the East-West Shrine Bowl (Brodric Martin, DL - Western Kentucky:  When I'm looking for defensive linemen in an odd front, I like 'em big and I like 'em long (stop giggling!!!!). The Hilltoppers' Martin is both of those things so he immediately stood out. The 6'5, 337lbs nose tackle was a force on the interior, collapsing the pocket and ruining the offense's plans for the run. On a particular run play, Martin blew up the left side of the offensive line almost single-handedly, meanwhile, the edge forced a strip sack, and the ball patiently waited for Martin to recover. That's what I like to see. Martin applied consistent pressure on the majority of his reps, which lends to his sheer power and length, which can be a problem for Centers and Guards, who can be undersized lesser athletes on the interior. Nose Tackle is a thankless job, but Martin still got his flowers as an All-Conference USA Honorable Mention. With Martin, the thing that has me salivating the most is the fact that even as promising as Martin looks right now, he's still got a long way to go. Martin mostly depends on a combination of power and leverage, he still needs to work on his rush plan and tools. With the proper coaching, Martin can be a near unstoppable force all on his own on the defensive line in the NFL.  Is Martin a fit for the Packers?  When you're 6'5, 337lbs a competent Defensive Coordinator will find ways to get you on the field (not sure if we have one of those....). With that length and power, I'd keep Martin right at Nose Tackle and as I develop his hands slowly rotate him to 3-Tech and 4-Tech. I really need to see him run before I line him out wide though. If I had a 5-2 front in my playbook, I find a way to get him on the field and put Kenny Clark, Jarran Reed, and Devonte Wyatt where they can take advantage. Defensive linemen this big are typically scheme diverse unless they have severely limited athletic profiles. Is he a fit? It's a resounding yes.  Value?  How did this guy not get a Combine invite? Without seeing a 40-yard dash and 20-yard shuttle I don't know where to place him. Based on the tape, I believe him to be no less than a 6th Rounder, I could see him in the 4th if someone falls in love with the tape and attends his Pro Day, but most likely his ceiling is around the 5th.) Biggest sleepers in the 2023 NFL Draft class (DT BRODRIC MARTIN, WESTERN KENTUCKY:  Martin is a discount store version of Jordan Davis, last year’s first defensive tackle drafted. He has egregiously long arms (34 3/8 inches) for an over 7-foot wingspan and holds 337 pounds with ease. He’s got all the makings of a two-gapper at the next level. He took a massive step forward with his performance this past fall, racking up 23 pressures and earning a 77.5 pass-rushing grade.) Tuesday 2023 Shrine Bowl East Team Practice Report: Antoine Green, John Ojukwu Finish Strong (It was a rough week for Western Kentucky’s Brodric Martin overall, but he did have a nice moment in 1-on-1s against Tennessee’s Jerome Carvin, using his heavy hands to club the interior blocker aside. Martin’s length can be overwhelming when he applies it downhill.) Sunday 2023 Shrine Bowl East Team Practice Report: Kei’Trel Clark and AJ Finley Dominate (Juice Scruggs was once again a quality player, anchoring with ease against Keondre Coburn and Dante Stills. And UCLA’s Jon Gaines II, who played at both guard and center, showed off great balance and violent hands, at one point using independent hands to stall a rush from Brodric Martin.) 2023 NFL Draft: Top prospects to watch at 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl (13. Brodric Martin, DT, Western Kentucky:  Martin began his career at North Alabama before transferring to WKU, where he spent the past two seasons. An active 330-pounder with great length, he moves forward quickly off the snap and is willing to chase plays out of the box. I could see teams valuing his power and athleticism in the first half of the draft's third day.)
