The state of all 32 teams before the 2023 NFL Draft (13. DETROIT LIONS (Remaining starter needs: DI, TE.  Remaining depth needs: CB):  The Lions' cornerback unit ranked 32nd in coverage grade in 2022 (42.1) and allowed 2,807 passing yards, which was the most by nearly 400 yards. Free-agent addition Cam Sutton earned a 71.0 coverage grade and allowed just 411 receiving yards in 2022 — the ninth fewest among cornerbacks with at least 400 coverage snaps on the season. Fellow free-agent addition Emmanuel Moseley earned a 73.5 coverage grade through Week 5 before going down the rest of the year with an injury, and slot cornerback/safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson led the NFL with six interceptions on the year. A glaring weakness for the Lions became a strength in a hurry.  Detroit still needs to improve its interior defender group alongside Alim McNeill, but, fortunately, they have two top-20 draft picks and two second-round picks to make several impactful additions. The arrow is pointing skyward in the Motor City.):  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-roster-state-rankings-before-2023-nfl-draft

NFL Pro Day News and Rumors: Latest Around Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, and More (NFL Pro Day News and Rumors: BJ Thompson and Jacob Slade Impress Among DL - I highlighted BJ Thompson from Stephen F. Austin during my pro day report on March 24, but the buzz keeps growing on the edge rusher. Thompson touched 37.5″ in the vertical jump and 10’5″ in the broad, despite jumping into a stiff wind. His 40 times ranged from 4.55 to 4.62 seconds, the three-cone coming in at 7.06 seconds, and the short shuttle at 4.46 seconds.  Thompson has had a handful of official 30 visits, including the Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, and San Francisco 49ers, with the latter three putting the athletic defender through private workouts.  Jacob Slade entered the season largely ignored by scouts who did not feel he was a Sunday prospect. His play over eight games last year changed that opinion, and Slade’s pro-day workout squarely cemented him as a late-round pick/PFA type.  Slade and his 285-pound frame timed 4.94 seconds in the 40 with a super quick 10-yard split of 1.70 seconds. His three-cone time was impressive at 7.63 seconds, and Slade touched 31″ in the vertical jump.  Teams like his athleticism and mobility, and Slade is also getting looks as a potential developmental offensive guard. The Buffalo Bills are showing interest in the Spartan, and he’s had a lot of talks with the Lions.):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nfl-pro-day-news-and-rumors-bj-thompson-and-maalik-hall-headline-defensive-names-to-know/
