QB Draft Desperation Tiers: Which teams will draft one? (Well ... Why? Well ... Why Not?  Lions:  Why -- The Lions really like Jared Goff and no one will believe them which isn't a reason they'll draft a QB, just a reason people think they will. They have two first-round picks which always makes it easier to justify taking a QB with one of them despite having the position "filled." Some people are even throwing out "The Lions won't be drafting this high again for a while" as if they don't know the entire existence of the Detroit Lions for the last 4,000 years.  Why Not -- With two first-round picks you can't rule out a move to get a future signal caller, but they're the NFC North favorites and once Aaron Rodgers is traded, you have to believe they can make a run in the watered-down NFC with Goff under center and two starter-caliber players from the first round added to this stout roster. Brad Holmes drafted Goff in St. Louis (!) and believes in him. Detroit wants to build in the trenches. People assuming cornerback here might even miss, much less quarterback.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2023-nfl-draft-rumors-which-teams-will-take-a-quarterback-welcome-to-qb-draft-desperation-tiers/

2023 NFL Draft: The biggest questions for all 32 NFL teams (Detroit Lions: Do They Take Jalen Carter At No. 6?  Detroit’s biggest need heading into the draft is arguably on the interior defensive line, and the best interior defensive line prospect since Quinnen Williams in 2019 could be available at No. 6. The problem is, it’s unknown whether Carter’s off-field issues will have him off the Lions’ board altogether.  If so, Detroit could continue to boost the secondary with someone such as Devon Witherspoon or even take a swing on a sliding quarterback.):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-biggest-questions-all-32-nfl-teams

2023 NFL Draft: Each team's most ideal pick in Round 1, including the Bucs replacing Tom Brady (6. Detroit Lions: Jalen Carter - The off-field legal issues are known. On the gridiron, Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter's production makes him the best defensive player on Georgia's back-to-back national title teams that were loaded with NFL talent, leading the way with 66 pressures and 15.5 tackles for loss the last two seasons. Watching him in person against TCU in the College Football Playoff National Championship game, it was mind-blowing to see his fluidity as he smoothly moved Horned Frogs offensive linemen out of the way with ease.  The Lions have made multiple moves to bolster their secondary like signing cornerback Cameron Sutton (three years, $33 million) and safety C.J. Gardner Johnson (one year, $6.5 million). Now, it's time to give last year's No. 2 overall pick, defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, a dominant running mate on the line. The duo of Hutchinson and Carter could wreak havoc in opposing backfields for the next decade.  18. Detroit Lions: Christian Gonzalez - Christian Gonzalez has tremendous size for the cornerback position at 6-foot-1, 197 pounds, a high-upside pick (4.38 40-yard dash and a 41.5-inch vertical) for what was a porous secondary in Detroit last season, allowing 245.8 passing yards per game, the third-most in the NFL. He would provide defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, a former NFL cornerback himself, with an explosive player to mold.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2023-nfl-draft-each-teams-most-ideal-pick-in-round-1-including-the-bucs-replacing-tom-brady/
