2025 NFL Midseason Report: All 32 NFL teams' highest-graded players, biggest surprises and more (Detroit Lions - Highest-Graded Player: T Penei Sewell.  Somehow, Sewell has been even better during the 2025 NFL campaign — which feels almost unfair. His 95.7 overall PFF grade is the highest among any player with 100 or more snaps, and would be the foremost in his illustrious career.  Biggest Surprise: EDGE Al-Quadin Muhammad - The Lions have long pursued a running mate to Aidan Hutchinson at edge rusher, and they may have found a surreptitious candidate in Muhammad. NFL pass-rusher rankings ahead of Week 10 (1. Aidan Hutchinson.  Season Highlights - Best Pass Rusher: Aidan Hutchinson, Detroit Lions.  Hutchinson is back atop the pass-rusher rankings, boasting a 92.7 PFF pass-rush grade through Week 9. He has been in a back-and-forth battle with Micah Parsons and Myles Garrett for the top spot all season, as the three elite edge defenders have separated themselves from the rest of the pack heading into the second half of the year.  Most Pressures: Aidan Hutchinson, Detroit Lions - Hutchinson’s 55 pressures are eight more than the next closest player, despite the Lions having a bye week in the first half of the year. One thing we learned about each NFL team at midseason (Detroit Lions:  Dan Campbell is just fine without his coordinators. Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, that is. The Lions aren't flawless as they work through injuries on the offensive front and defensive secondary. NFL: Report card grades in the NFC North for Week 9 (Detroit Lions - Offensive Grade: B-.  Detroit’s offense couldn’t find consistency running the ball. They rushed the ball 20 times for 65 yards (3.3 average) and one touchdown. Jared Goff was consistent, racking up 284 yards and two touchdowns. This was one of the few games where Detroit struggled to find success on the ground.  Defensive Grade: C+.  The Lions accumulated five sacks, but Minnesota quarterback J.J. McCarthy completed 14 of 25 passes for 143 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Detroit had issues stopping Minnesota’s ground game. The Vikings finished the game with 29 carries, 142 yards (4.9 average), and one touchdown.  Overall Grade: B-.  Detroit played an unusual game. They’ve had success running the ball and stopping opposing running backs, but the opposite occurred on Sunday. NFL power rankings: NFC North Week 10 (2. Detroit Lions Record: 5-3 (Last Week’s Ranking: 1.  Detroit dropped a winnable division game last week against Minnesota. The Vikings found a way to successfully stop Detroit superstar Jahmyr Gibbs. The loss dropped the Lions to 1-2 in the division. Defensively, Detroit has performed well in their eight games. They’re ranked 5th in takeaway/giveaway ratio (+6), 8th in yards allowed per game, and 11th in total points allowed. The Lions have two players, Aidan Hutchinson and Al-Quadin Muhammad, ranked in the top eleven in sacks. Detroit’s offense continues to be one of the league’s best. They rank 11th in yards per game, 9th in rushing yards per game, and 2nd in points scored per game. Albert Breer’s Mailbag: Why the Lions Stood Pat at the Trade Deadline (Detroit Lions - From Tyler S (@Tyler_SS11): Do you think Detroit made the right choice in not making a trade for an EDGE or CB? They have glaring holes at both due to injury right now. The NFC North race is only going to get tighter as the season goes on.  Tyler, those are two separate questions, but they share a common principle: They are holes at premium positions, and those spots are tough to fill, especially in the middle of the season.  Maybe it would’ve made sense to make a call on Detroit native Sauce Gardner, but the Jets didn’t shop the offer they had around. The Lions’ cap ledger is already starting to fill up, with another draft class eligible for new contracts at the end of the season (that class, by the way, has Jahmyr Gibbs, Jack Campbell, Sam LaPorta and Brian Branch). Outside of that, you’d be talking about taking on someone such as Michael Carter II when you have D.J. Reed coming back this month. I’m not sure that makes sense.  As for the situation on the edge, the Lions did go down that road a year ago with Za’Darius Smith, and are expecting to get Marcus Davenport back at some point. Grades:

2025 NFL midseason grades: Colts, Pats earn 'A' (Detroit Lions: B.  Record entering Week 10: 5-3 (second place in NFC North).  The Lions are another team that has run a little hot and cold through the first half. They bounced back well after dropping the opener to Green Bay, rattling off four-straight wins and averaging 40.3 points per game in the process. However, they've more recently lost two of their last three, and the offensive production has been cut in half (21.7 points per game). Despite the up-and-down nature, Detroit remains one of the key players in the NFC, and Jared Goff continues to be efficient. He's second in the NFL in completion percentage (73.8%) and tied for second with a 2.1 passing touchdown per game average. NFL 2025 midseason team grades: A lot to like with Patriots, Colts, Bucs and Seahawks. But 4 teams also get Fs (Detroit Lions (5-3):  It’s hard to be too excited about the Lions’ start. They lost two games all of last season and have three already this season. Some games they have looked like the best team in football though, with the same explosive offense and a very good defense. 2025 NFC Midseason Report Cards: One Team Grades Above the Rest (Detroit Lions - There was no drastic drop off, which many expected after Detroit lost former coordinators Johnson and Aaron Glenn to head-coaching jobs in the offseason.  But the Lions also don’t appear as mighty as last year. Jared Goff struggled to get his offense going when the team trailed early against the Packers, Vikings and Chiefs. It’s not a good look that the Lions are 1–2 in the competitive NFC North.  This offense is too talented to be so reliant on the rushing attack. Goff can’t just look to running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs to bail him out.
