2026 NFL Combine results: 3 winners from quarterbacks group (Haynes King, Georgia Tech (6-foot-2 1/2, 212):  Our third Combine winner was not on our watchlist, mainly because I’m not sure he’s draftable as a quarterback. King has an average arm and needs to see it before he throws it, which often leads to late throws, but he’s efficient at throwing shorter/quicker routes with accuracy. Too often, King takes an extra step in the pocket instead of cutting it loose, which can lead to accuracy issues and misses high.  That being said, King lands in the winner’s circle for this piece because of his athletic measurables, including running a 4.47-second 40-yard dash. At Georgia Tech, King was deployed as a rushing quarterback, and last season he registered 953 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns (!). I’m often asked about Payton shifting to a Taysom Hill-like role, and when that question comes up, I try to redirect those queries to King, who I believe has a legitimate chance to pull off that positional switch. Now, can he do it? I don’t know, and I would speculate the NFL doesn’t know either, which is why I believe King may have an uphill road to get drafted. Three Jackets Named ACC Players of the Week – Football (Highlighted by Haynes King (Longview, Texas/Longview H.S.) being named ACC Quarterback of the Week for the fifth time in his nine games this season, three Georgia Tech players have been honored by the ACC for their performances in the Yellow Jackets’ 36-34 win at Boston College.  King continued to elevate his status as a Heisman Trophy frontrunner by accounting for 424 yards of offense (371 passing, 53 rushing) and leading the Yellow Jackets to a whopping 628 yards of total offense as a team in the victory (the most by any team in an ACC game this season). King was once again at his best in crunch time, engineering four scoring drives in the fourth quarter alone (two touchdowns and two field goals) to help bring the Jackets back from a 28-17 deficit going into the final period. Three Georgia Tech Players To Watch On Saturday Against Duke (Haynes King:  It is the battle of the quarterback on Saturday as the Yellow Jackets will head to Durham to face the Blue Devils. Duke has a good quarterback in their own right in Darian Mensah, who has been one of the best in the conference. King has also been playing at that level. Jackets Move to 6-0 With 35-20 Win Over VT (THE FLATS – Led by 20-of-24 passing from Haynes King and 129 rushing yards from Malachi Hosley, No. 13 Georgia Tech remained unbeaten and became bowl eligible with a 35-20 win over visiting Virginia Tech on Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field.  With the victory, Georgia Tech (6-0, 3-0 ACC) moved to 6-0 for the first time since 2011 and only the second time in the past 59 seasons (1967-), while clinching bowl eligibility on the second-earliest date in school history (only three days later than when the 2011 squad became bowl eligible on Oct. 8).  King accounted for 273 yards of offense (213 passing, 60 rushing) and three touchdowns (two on the ground, one through the air) while Hosley needed just 11 carries to amass his 129 yards (11.7), which included a 15-yard touchdown run of his own.  King’s 20-of-24 passing performance (.833) was the second-most efficient in Georgia Tech history (min. 20 attempts). Their unit ranks 25th this year in offensive production, primarily due to “Haynes squared” — the duo of QB Haynes Kings and RB Jamal Haynes.  King’s performance against Georgia last season put him in the national spotlight, but he was balling the entire year with 11 touchdowns on the ground. He also tallied 11 passing touchdowns and just one interception on 1,900 yards passing. King will have the Yellow Jackets rolling this season.  The latter half of the Haynes domination is Jamal Haynes. The Georgia Tech running back has posted back-to-back seasons with over 800 yards rushing, seven-plus touchdowns, and over five yards per carry.
