2026 NFL draft: Tannenbaum's prospect targets in Rounds 1-7 (First-rounders I'd target outside the top 10 - Dillon Thieneman, S, Oregon:  His athleticism is terrific, as he ran 4.35 in the 40-yard dash and had a 41-inch vertical jump at the combine. Draft 101: Why Three Do-it-All Defenders Will Rule the First Round (In his first season with Oregon after two at Purdue, the 6-foot-0, 201-pound Dillon Thieneman had 72 solo tackles, 30 stops, three tackles for loss, and four quarterback pressures. He also allowed 18 catches on 29 targets for 145 yards, 42 yards after the catch, two touchdowns, two interceptions, four pass breakups, and an opponent passer rating of 68.9. Registered over 95 tackles all three seasons while aligning all over the secondary. Pros:  Elite athlete with outstanding top-end speed and acceleration.  Highly productive across different defensive schemes.  Quick eyes and trigger to attack the run game.  Good range and reactive quickness in high coverage.  Showed outstanding ball skills early (6 INTs in 2023).  Core special teams experience.  Almost never chases the cheese.  Fits the Grit with his mindset and style of play. Cons:  More of a drag-down tackler, will give up an extra yard(s) in space.  Often too flat of a path from middle of field to the outside.  Doesn’t anticipate blocks well and can get stuck on them.  Will occasionally play on train tracks in run defense.  Lacks instincts in man coverage, exacerbated the wider out he gets.  Thieneman is listed only because I expect Ohio State’s Caleb Downs to be selected well before Detroit comes on the clock.) 2026 NFL Draft Big Board: 5 Biggest Risers on Tony Pauline’s Post-Combine Update (Dillon Thieneman/S/Oregon - Big Board Jump Since Last Update: 28 spots, from No. 63 to No. 35.  Another Oregon player makes the list as a riser up the big board. Most Surprising Prediction Yet for the Oregon Ducks in the NFL Draft (Dillon Thieneman’s Rise with Oregon
Thieneman transferred to Oregon ahead of the 2025 season after spending two years with the Purdue Boilermakers. The safety stepped right in with Oregon’s defense proving to be a versatile athlete. Whether it’s defending against the run or pass, Thieneman can be trusted to make the play.  In 2025, the Ducks ranked No. 4 in the FBS for passing yards allowed, averaging 157.9 per game. Oregon adding Thieneman through the portal both elevated the defense and helped the Ducks’ safety develop into a first-round draft projection.  Thieneman played in all 15 games with Oregon, finishing the season with 92 total tackles, one sack, five passes defended, and two interceptions.  One of his interceptions was against the Penn State Nittany Lions, in what proved to be a defensive matchup between the two teams. In overtime, the Ducks led the game, and the defense needed to make a stop to win. As Penn State quarterback Drew Allar went to pass the ball, Thieneman caught the interception, ending the matchup.  This was a critical game for the Ducks, who were the lower-ranked team ahead of the matchup. It was also the Penn State White Out, which is a challenging atmosphere for away teams. Thieneman not only showed off his athleticism but also his ability to show up in big moments, which could stand out to NFL teams.  In Sikkema’s mock draft, not only is Thieneman predicted to go No. 12 overall, but he would be the second safety off the board. What I learned at the NFL combine: Detroit Lions buzz and draft targets (9. If I had to pick a few names of players who could be fits for the Lions in the first round right now: Monroe Freeling (Georgia), Keldric Faulk (Auburn), Vega Ioane (Penn State), Emmanuel McNeil-Warren (Toledo), Dillon Thieneman (Oregon), Ahkeem Mesidor (Miami), Blake Miller (Clemson), Caleb Lomu (Utah) and Zion Young (Missouri). Subject to change, of course.  14. A handful of safeties grabbed my attention, but I’ll focus on three: Thieneman, McNeil-Warren and TCU’s Bud Clark. Thieneman and McNeil-Warren are considered first-round-caliber prospects, but they’re different players.  Thieneman was one of the big combine winners, recording elite speed and explosion results. These Two Oregon Ducks Should Be Selected in the First Round of the NFL Draft (Dillon Thieneman - Safety:  Oregon Ducks safety Dillon Thieneman is an extremely talented defender who is fresh off his first and only season with the Oregon Ducks. This was a successful season for the safety, as he finished with one of the better statlines on the team. He finished with a total of five pass deflections and two interceptions on the season, all while totaling 92 tackles.  The best statistical season in college for the safety prospect was with the Purdue Boilermakers in 2023, as he finished with six interceptions in one season. He also finished with two pass deflections in that season, which was the least among the three years he played. After playing for two years with the Boilermakers, Thieneman opted to join the Ducks in 2025 and was there for just one season.  Thieneman consistently makes great plays, and still measures well, as the ball hawk has very long arms, which has led to him having a much longer wingspan than expected first round pick and first safety taken off the board, Caleb Downs. Thieneman will likely be the second safety selected in the Draft, but he is very deserving of being selected in the first round, as he has the ability to play both drop back safety and slot corner as well.) All-Combine Team Defense: Who rocked Indy? Best NFL fits? (Dillon Thieneman Oregon - Best team fits: Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings.  The safeties were a top-heavy group, and I liked a handful of the best out there so much that this decision was especially difficult for me. Ohio State's Lorenzo Styles Jr. put down a blazing-fast 4.27 40-yard dash and crushed drills while showing off the skilled hands he no doubt honed in his past life as a Notre Dame receiver, yet I couldn't help but give two other players the nod, starting with Thieneman. The Oregon safety aced testing, posting a 4.35 40, a 10-foot-5 broad jump and a 41-inch vertical leap, earning Next Gen Stats' top athleticism score (86) among safeties. He followed that up with a flawless effort in the field work, showing burst that matched his 40 time and premier polish.
