Day 3 names in the 2026 NFL draft that could outplay the entire draft class (4. Kamari Ramsey - Production Score: 76, Athleticism Score: 77, OVERALL DRAFT SCORE: 79. Kamari Ramsey’s value lies in his versatility and football intelligence, traits that are increasingly prized in modern defensive schemes. Having played multiple roles across his collegiate career, including safety and nickel, he offers immediate utility in sub-packages at the next level. His leadership responsibilities and experience suggest a player capable of handling complex assignments early in his career. Though not defined by elite athleticism, Ramsey’s adaptability and awareness position him as a dependable contributor who could carve out a meaningful role sooner than expected.) 2026 NFL Draft sleepers: Day 2 standouts and Day 3 targets to know (Day 3 Standouts - Kamari Ramsey - Age: 21 (per The Athletic's draft guide, The Beast). DJ's Big Board Ranking: No. 131. Production Score: 76. Athleticism Score: 77. OVERALL DRAFT SCORE: 79. Ramsey's appeal is less about one dominant trait and more about the kind of positional flexibility NFL defenses keep prioritizing. He played multiple roles over the course of his college career, working more as a safety earlier before shifting into a primary nickel role in 2025, and that kind of usage matters for a defensive back whose quickest path to early snaps could come in sub packages. He is also one of four safeties in this class with both an NGS production score and athleticism score above 75, alongside Caleb Downs, Dillon Thieneman and A.J. Haulcy. Ramsey started 31 games across UCLA and USC, ran a 4.47 40 at 202 pounds and finished his career with 133 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 11 pass breakups and two picks. Per Brugler, he wore the green dot at USC, which is a meaningful detail for a player whose value does, based on both Brugler and Zierlein's evaluation, appear to be tied as much to intelligence and versatility as movement skills.) 2026 NFL Draft: Strengths, weaknesses for the top safety prospects (S5. Kamari Ramsey, USC - PFF Predictive Big Board Rank: 69. Strengths: Strong coverage movements. 10 Most Intriguing Defensive Back Prospects at NFL Scouting Combine (10. USC S Kamari Ramsey: Ramsey was considered the defensive leader for USC the last two seasons after previously starring at rival UCLA. His raw stats aren't going to stand out so much -- his best season came in 2024 when he had 60 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 1 interception, 5 passes defended and 2 forced fumbles -- but he's a heady player with strong instincts for the ball. How he's ultimately viewed as a draft prospect could hinge greatly on his performance at the combine.) While injuries impacted his production in 2025, his 2024 numbers were impressive before he opted to run it back with the Trojans rather than declare for the draft. Ramsey had 60 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, an interception and five passes defended as a redshirt sophomore, along with two forced fumbles. All told, he had 87 tackles, 7.0 TFLs and seven passes defended across 20 games at USC.) Second-Round Draft Prospects Who Could Be Day 1 Starters in Detroit (USC S Kamari Ramsey - The Lions' safety situation is up in the air, and the secondary as a whole could face some renovations based on the result of free agency. A player like Ramsey makes sense for the defense as he could be plugged in as a true safety, or as a nickel as he has experience in both spots. Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch both had their seasons ended by injury, and their recoveries could last into next season. Meanwhile, Amik Robertson is set to be a free agent and as a result the Lions could need to find a new starting nickel corner. Ramsey could fit in either option, and that type of chess piece is exactly what the Lions could be in need of early in the year.) Top 5 defensive backs for the Detroit Lions at the 2026 NFL Combine (Kamari Ramsey, S, USC - Average Draft Position: 47th. A to Z Sports big board ranking: 72nd. Positional versatility is something the Lions love, and Ramsey brings that to the position. He can play either safety spot and in the nickel. What we like most about him is his adaptability. He can back into a play if he’s beaten initially and change his approach on the fly.) 5 Safeties Lions Must Monitor at 2026 Scouting Combine (Kamari Ramsey, USC: Ramsey was forced to showcase his versatility throughout the 2025 season, as injuries necessitated a move to the nickel position for him. He had a miniscule 3.2 percent missed tackle rate this past season, making him one of the best tacklers in the nation and an ideal fit for Detroit's defensive style. He doesn't have the flashiest takeaway numbers, with no interceptions in 2025 and two total in four seasons. However, he has shown tremendous agility on his tape and should perform well in on-field drills. Ramsey could be a chess piece that the Lions could rely on as depth for multiple positions, making him a nice fit in the middle rounds.) 2026 Senior Bowl Practice Observations: Caleb Banks, T.J. Parker Take Field in Mobile (Kamari Ramsey, DB, American - Day 1 Update: Kamari Ramsey was another prospect with a relatively quiet first day at the Senior Bowl, but the ball also simply didn’t come his way often. The coverage mobility stands out, as it often did in his film; he floats on his pedal and is an elastic, free-flowing short-area mover at his size. As both teams get deeper into game situations, his playmaking skills at the catch point will be tested more. Day 2 and 3 Update: Ramsey had a quieter week than most of his counterparts, but he put on display his multi-phase appeal as both a coverage and support defender. His smooth foot speed and tempo oscillation was a regularity in off-man 1-on-1s, and in team drills, he triggered downhill quickly, maintained angle discipline, and showed off his ability to weave past blockers to make stops. Questions about Ramsey’s playmaking and ball tracking weren’t answered in Mobile, but the strong foundation of his game shined through.) USC Trojans' Most Underrated NFL Draft Prospects (Coming into the year, Ramsey was thought of as potentially the Trojans’ best NFL prospect along with USC wide receiver Makai Lemon. Injuries forced Ramsey to move to the nickel spot and play a bit out of position. For nearly all of his career, Ramsey lined up as a safety, not as a nickel. Statistically it was Ramsey’s worst year as a starter. He had 27 tackles and two pass deflections last year for USC. Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN ranked Ramsey as his No. 5 safety in the 2026 NFL Draft class. Ramsey has a real side of becoming a top 100 pick in the 2026 draft based on his production and film. The versatility shown by Ramsey will play a big factor into where he gets selected, and he could be one of the more underrated prospects in the draft because of his versatility.) USC Stars Kamari Ramsey, Ja’Kobi Lane Have Golden Opportunity at Senior Bowl (Ramsey started at UCLA as a redshirt freshman in 2023, before following former Trojans defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn to USC. He was an immediate plug-and-play starter at safety in 2024 but this past season he moved to nickel out of necessity. Southern Cal suffered multiple injuries at nickel in fall camp and decided to utilize Ramsey’s versatility and played three safeties. Ramsey played some safety the second half of the season, especially when they played a 4-3 base defense, instead of its traditional 4-2-5 defense. Still, most of his tape in 2025 was playing nickel. Ramsey will have an entire week to remind NFL decision makers what he can do at safety. He thrives around the line of scrimmage, coming downhill with urgency in run support and can be used in blitz packages. Ramsey has range as a deep half safety and can matchup against slot receivers and tight ends in man coverage. He’s a hard hitter with a high football IQ. The USC safety suffered a lower body injury in the first half of the Trojans win over Iowa on Nov. 15 that cost him the rest of the season. So, this week will be his first live action in over two months.) 2026 NFL Draft: PFSN’s Consensus Top 10 Safeties Feature Caleb Downs, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren (3. Kamari Ramsey, USC: Entering the 2025 campaign, Kamari Ramsey received a fourth-round grade from BLESTO. Ramsey certainly lived up to the top-100 billing despite not seeing action in four games for reasons ranging from injury to food poisoning. The All-Southern California product was a four-star recruit at regional Sierra Canyon School before signing with UCLA and transferring to cross-town rival USC. Although Ramsey’s statistical outputs don’t match the likes of Ramsey or Downs, he drastically cut down on the number of missed tackles between the last two seasons, with forced incompletion percentages in the double digits in each of his three full-time seasons. I reasonably expect Ramsey to hear his name called on Day 2.) (1-15-26): https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2026-nfl-draft-safety-prospects-rankings/

Biggest NFL Draft Steal on USC Trojans' Roster (No. 62 Kamari Ramsey: USC safety Kamari Ramsey officially declared for the NFL Draft on Dec. 15 after two seasons with the Trojans. The safety began his collegiate career with USC's cross-town rivals, the UCLA Bruins. Ramsey is ranked No. 62, but is still in SI’s top 100. The Trojans have had at least one defensive back drafted each year since 2023, and Ramsey is set to continue that streak. He proved to be a critical player for the Trojans and can translate well into the NFL. Ramsey finished the season with 27 total tackles and two passes defended. Ramsey's tape was good enough a year ago that he likely would have snuck into the back end of Day 2, but he returned to shore up some glaring issues he had on tape. What he can do from a coverage perspective is going to be very attractive to a lot of NFL teams. Ramsey can play the slot and match routes from a deep half/quarters alignment like a cornerback would. USC Trojans' Makai Lemon, Kamari Ramsey: Top Returning Players in College Football? (Ramsey checks in at No. 56, which puts him as the No. 4 safety in the country and No. 3 safety in the Big Ten, behind Ohio State's Caleb Downs and Michigan's Rod Moore. Ramsey followed defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn over from UCLA following the conclusion of the 2023 season. The Sierra Canyon (Calif.) product was instrumental in USC's defensive turnaround this past season. Having played in Lynn's system the year prior, combined with his elite football IQ, Ramsey was able to help get things rolling fast during spring practice. He finished last season with 60 tackles, two forced fumbles, two sacks and one interception. Ramsey was viewed as a day two pick by NFL evaluators but chose to forgo the NFL draft and return to school for another season. He is the only returning starter in the Trojans secondary from last season. Ramsey is a defensive chess piece that can make an impact at all three levels of the defense and Lynn uses him as such.
