In 2025, the 6-foot-3 ½, 201-pound McNeil-Warren played 45% of his snaps as a single-high safety, 20% in the slot, 19% as a split safety, 14% in the box, and 2% on the outside. If I had to pick a few names of players who could be fits for the Lions in the first round right now: Monroe Freeling (Georgia), Keldric Faulk (Auburn), Vega Ioane (Penn State), Emmanuel McNeil-Warren (Toledo), Dillon Thieneman (Oregon), Ahkeem Mesidor (Miami), Blake Miller (Clemson), Caleb Lomu (Utah) and Zion Young (Missouri). And Texas Tech's David Bailey looks tremendous (Safeties: This isn’t the strongest draft for any position, but maybe it will help push along the revolution at safety.  Safeties are still considered a low-value position relative to edge rushers, cornerbacks and left tackles, which is why Ohio State safety Caleb Downs is considered by some to be the best player in the draft but won’t go in the top 10. But versatile safeties are becoming more important with offensive personnel flexibility, and there are some very good safeties in this draft.  Downs is the best one but others, like Toledo’s Emmanuel McNeil-Warren and Oregon’s Dillon Thieneman, could also rise up draft boards, in part because other positions in this draft aren’t that strong. He gains ground quickly, shows great change-of-direction skills, and looks full speed by his second step. McNeil-Warren is also a hands catcher who cleanly plucks the ball away from his frame. Toledo S Emmanuel McNeil-Warren:  Casual football fans may not recognize the name as McNeil-Warren played his entire college career at Toledo, but he's generating substantial pre-draft buzz.  Kiper projects him as a late first-round pick and wrote this about the safety: "McNeil-Warren is a bit of a sleeper right now, but I think he could have been a top-15 pick had he played for a Power 4 team. ... NFL Combine winners and losers: Live updates on defensive backs, tight ends in Indianapolis (Loser: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, SAF, Toledo - A surprising underperformer on Friday was Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, who spent much of the process as a Day 2 pick before the recent wind of first-round rumors spread. Since the Super Bowl, the bar has been set for McNeil-Warren's Combine performance -- Seattle Seahawks rookie Nick Emmanwori.  McNeil-Warren, at 6034, 201, is slimmer than Emmanwori. His arms are slightly smaller, and his testing numbers look like they are going to fall pretty far behind. Seattle's star posted a 98th-percentile vertical jump and 99th-percentile broad jump. The Toledo safety had marks of 35.5 inches and 10'2", far more pedestrian. Emmanuel McNeil-Warren wasn't a household name in college football, but the versatile safety is creating plenty of buzz in the pre-draft process. Ranked as Daniel Jeremiah's No. 15 overall prospect, the Toledo product says his small-school pedigree put a big-time chip on his shoulder.  "It's like a small MAC school, so how I treat it, like, you gotta work harder than anybody, because people at Power [Four] schools, they got it easier, for real," McNeil-Warren said on Thursday.
