His 3.13-second average time to throw ranked 134th out of 138 quarterbacks in the FBS, and his indecisiveness in the short-to-intermediate areas was a big reason. Green has also struggled facing pressure. All 27 times he was sacked last season came against true pressure, and he completed only 38.6% of his passes in those situations.  Green's highs are extremely high and his lows will leave you scratching your head. His road to developing as a passer will be turbulent. In a sea of prospects with easy pitch-and-catch ability and almost no ceiling whatsoever, let Green serve as an oasis. Bask in his willingness to simply try stuff. Of the FBS quarterbacks in this piece, no one averaged more yards per carry than Green, and almost no one averaged more yards per completion.  Green was fifth out of the 84 quarterbacks in yards per completion (13.7) and combined explosiveness with solid efficiency: He also was 13th in success rate (48%). He rarely threw passes at or behind the line of scrimmage -- he was a Bobby Petrino quarterback, after all -- and when he caught a glimpse of an open field in front of him, he took it. He was 19th in scramble rate (9.7%) and first in yards per scramble (10.8). In this sample, only one quarterback averaged more overall yards per non-sack carry, and that was UTSA's Owen McCown who never actually runs. Why he might fail: So, so many mistakes. After the sales job I just did, you might be wondering why Green isn't a first-round prospect. That's because his bad plays were worse (and more frequent) than anyone else's on this list. That's a bit of a hindrance.  Green was 59th in completion rate (60.5%) and 63rd in interception rate (2.8%), and he took all the hits you would expect from a QB who averaged 3.15 seconds to throw (second most): He was 71st in sack rate (7.7%), 66th in contact rate (38.5%) and 65th in sacks-to-pressures ratio (21.7%). Arkansas went 2-10 last season despite a top-25 offense, and while that tells you everything you need to know about the Razorbacks' awful defense, Green's knack for making devastating mistakes at just the wrong time contributed to the team's 1-9 record in one-score finishes over the past two seasons. He’s an incredible athlete who sporadically sparked as a passer at Arkansas, and Boise State before that. The actual quarterback play is in need of serious refinement. Green is a “needs to see it” type of passer, and he doesn’t always see it on time. The outstanding arm strength and quick release help, but Green often struggles to get the ball when and where it needs to be on schedule. There are far too many “hero ball” plays that result negatively, with too many missed layups. Disciplined zone defenders and dropping LBs are constant problems for Green.  He’s got very real potential as a short-yardage/goal-line package specialist who can play at QB or RB. Green is a nasty weapon in dual-threat situations, and his size and speed are something teams can’t replicate in practice as an option-style runner. It's only natural, then, that teams would gravitate toward a passer with access to every level of the field and who can create on his own.  But subsisting on big plays didn't prove tenable for Green in the Southeastern Conference, and any chance he earns behind center in the NFL might be short-lived without better consistency. His lackadaisical setups in the pocket and elongated release negate much of the advantage conferred by his substantial arm strength, and his ball placement tends to be rather wild. I just can't miss out on both of them. The first is Green, who of course dominated the combine. And when they found a break in the action to ask him about the possible request, Green said that no team had asked, and noted that if they did, he would turn them down as he views himself as a quarterback-only prospect. While you have to love the commitment Green has to chasing his dream, there’s a reason most compare his style of play to that of Terrelle Pryor, who was also an uber-athlete drafted in the third round as a quarterback, only to shift to receiver three years into his career. In on-field drills, Green’s athleticism showed in his movements, and his powerful arm was able to unlock some beautiful throws when his feet were gathered and underneath him—but those throws were few and far between. Green’s footwork is inconsistent, sloppy, and desperately needs to be cleaned up if he wants to stay at quarterback at the next level. He often crossed his feet and incorporated a hop step in his drop, leading to some wild misses on some easy throws. For example, on a simple 10-yard out, Green shuffled his feet inaccurately, got a tick off balance, and the ball sailed 10 feet over the receiver’s head. 2026 Senior Bowl Practice Observations: Caleb Banks, T.J. Parker Take Field in Mobile (Taylen Green, QB, American - Day 1 Update:  Taylen Green did enough to further intrigue evaluators moving forward on Day 1. He stayed fresh all day, throwing for WRs in 1-on-1s, in 7-on-7s, and in team drills, and was generally accurate, with efficient timing on route breaks.  There’s still room for more to be asked from Green as a field general and processor at the event, but at 6’6″, 229 pounds, with high-level athleticism and easy arm talent, he assuredly looks the part, and thus far, he’s been composed, collected, and very clean mechanically.  With college tape that was very up-and-down at times when independent processing was involved, Green will need to “wow” those watching with clear, consistent signs of development. His talent is superlative, and he’s off to a solid start.  Day 2 Update:  Taylen Green might not have been the best QB in Mobile, definitely on Wednesday, but he was assuredly the most dynamic. And it’s easy to envision NFL teams being enthralled by his ultimate upside after his Day 2 Senior Bowl showing.  Green had the play of the week on Wednesday, and it might be hard to beat. In team drills, Green found Malachi Fields on a deep post route. He stepped up, rolled his hips through the pass, and drove the ball high, past the coverage, where only Fields could make a play.  Even Green’s deep throw was released a tick late, but Green still showcases the ability to discern opportunities deep and maximize his placement with layering and touch. And when he’s forced off his rhythm and out of the pocket, he chews up ground with his athleticism.  Green did have one lowlight: An interception to Skyler Thomas when Green attempted to lay the ball over the top of Thomas on the move. That lowlight placed his field vision back under scrutiny, but Green’s raw talent shone above all of it, and when he puts it all together, he can accomplish things few other QBs can on the field.  Day 3 Update:  Taylen Green had a chance to stack good days and build real momentum after a flashy Day 2 that saw him generate chunk plays both through the air and on the ground. However, the 6’6″, 229-pound passer stalled out on Day 3 and left the Senior Bowl with his outlook unchanged.  Of the six QBs at the Senior Bowl, Green threw the ball the least amount of times on Thursday, and when he did throw the ball, he was generally inaccurate or late to trigger.  Green was able to create with his athleticism at times when things went off-script, but it’s a well-known part of his game. What I learned from candid conversations with Taylen Green, T.J. Parker and others during Senior Bowl week (Taylen Green knows what jumps off the tape - At 6-foot-6 with long strides, rare speed, and the ability to turn broken plays into explosives, the Arkansas quarterback doesn't need to sell teams on his athleticism. The focus is showing them everything else.  As Green works through the early stages of the pre-draft process, his attention has narrowed to one thing: refining the little things.  "I would say just explaining the board work -- really being able to explain my playbook to a T," Green told me the day before practices started at the Senior Bowl. "But mechanically, I've been focused on tying my eyes to my feet."  That detail matters, especially for a quarterback as long and athletic as Green, who was blunt about where his inconsistencies have shown up on tape.  "That's when my mistakes came the most -- when my eyes get there before my feet," he said. "I'm trying to throw [without my upper body being in coordination with my lower body] instead of staying balanced."  Green rushed for 777 yards and eight touchdowns this past season. In four seasons as the starter for Boise State (2022, '23) and then Arkansas ('24 and '25), he averaged 5.2 yards a carry, after sacks, and scored 35 touchdowns through the air. His longest career run is a whopping 91 yards. His completion percentage the last two seasons -- 60.4 and 60.7 -- do not evince a helplessly inaccurate quarterback, and his QBR of 82.8 in 2025 was ninth nationally. Green is not a one-trick pony. But he will spend the rest of his life fine-tuning the passing Dynamics that may be the difference between a scout team player and a starting NFL QB. For Green, the solution is a counterintuitive one. It isn't slowing down the process; he instead needs to speed it up.   "Just being quicker. Being bouncier with my feet," he said. "Not being lackadaisical back there in the pocket. Because at the next level, you got freaks on the outside. Myles Garrett and all them."  That mindset reflects how Green views the jump from college to the NFL: less about reinventing himself from the ground up, more about the details and the precision needed to play the position at the highest level. And while his running ability will always be part of his game, Green is clear about what separates him from other quarterbacks in this class.  "I'll say my touch," he said. "I can throw that hummer, that 100-miles-an-hour ball, but at the same time I can layer the ball and have touch on it, over the linebacker, before that safety gets there."  That shows up frequently when Green plays on schedule -- but even when the play breaks down, his ability to stay patient in the pocket, trust his protection and then let his instincts and physical talents take over, that's what separates him from every other quarterback in this class.  I asked him about his favorite play from the 2025 season. Taylen Green, Arkansas (6-6, 235):  The most dangerous word in scouting is "upside" and there may not be a quarterback in this class with more of that than Green, whose long strides, big arm and flair for the dramatic has always reminded me of iconic NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham.The gangly Green first caught scouts’ attention at Boise State prior to thrilling at Arkansas the past two seasons, where he generated 50 touchdowns in 25 games, including 34 through the air. Unfortunately, he also tossed 20 interceptions during that time, too often showing a rudimentary ability to decipher defenses (or simply trusting his arm too much).  Green is gifted, but he’s also currently still very much a raw heave-ho thrower, rather than a precision passer. Taylen Green, Arkansas:  In the weeks leading up to the 2018 NFL Draft, I remember having conversations with top scouts about the perceived pecking order of that year’s talented QBs — a group that included No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield, as well as first-rounders Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen and Lamar Jackson. As you may recall, Mayfield and Darnold were largely viewed as the most pro-ready of the class, while scouts also acknowledged that neither was viewed as a "lock" to be great in the NFL. And scouts at the time argued that if a club was going to invest an early pick in a quarterback, why not gamble on the player with the highest upside (i.e. Allen or Jackson). The fact that Allen and Jackson have each matured into MVP-caliber quarterbacks is, in a nutshell, the argument for Green, a 6-foot-6, 235-pound do-it-all dynamo who is the closest thing I’ve seen to Randall Cunningham in 25 years of scouting.
