2022 NFL Draft WR Garrett Wilson

Scouting Reports:

Articles:

6 can't-miss prospects: Don't sleep on CB/returner (David Carr: There are a lot of playmakers at the wide receiver position, but Garrett Wilson is the best of the best. He possesses the most complete skill set of the class and is a dynamic playmaker with insane after-the-catch ability. If you're in the top 10 with a need at wide receiver, you might as well write Garrett Wilson's name on the card and hope he makes it to you.) NFL Draft prospects 2022: The top 10 wide receivers (2. Garrett Wilson, Ohio State (5-11, 183 pounds):  Wilson is a great complement to Olave with his smarts, quickness, route-running and hands. He is dangerous in making plays after the catch. He can be a similar co-No.1. for many teams with a little more well-rounded game, but his skill set is a rather strong crossover to Olave's with his own share of big playmaking. He shouldn't last long on the board, either, for the earliest wideout-needy teams.) (4-22-22):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-draft-2022-prospects-wide-receivers-rankings/eagoszlyovt8bckaixaqd2qz

Finding NFL player comparisons for the top 32 prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft (Garret Wilson, WR, Ohio State (TSN: Kenny Stills, Oklahoma (2013), NFL: NA, RAS: Eddie Royal, Virginia Tech (2008)):  Another of Ohio State's talented wide receivers in 2021, Wilson measures nearly identically to Olave, as he checked into the combine with a 4.38 40, 123 broad jump and checks in at 6-foot, 183 pounds. But the two wide receivers were used in different roles, with Olave acting more as a route-running threat, while Wilson is more of an explosive playmaker. Wilson was huge for Ohio State in 2021, catching 70 passes for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns. His combine numbers and usage with the Buckeyes were similar to Oklahoma's Kenny Stills, who posted a 4.38 40, 124 broad jump and 4.35 shuttle to Wilson's 4.36. Both showed the ability to be end-zone, 50-50 targets, who can also work as deep threats with standout acceleration off the line.) 2022 NFL Draft Position Rankings: Wide Receivers (3. GARRETT WILSON, OHIO STATE (BIG BOARD RANK: 14):  The natural. Wilson's ability to generate separation is the best in the class. He's also produced at a high level from both the slot (73.4% of his snaps in 2020) and outside (82.9% of his snaps in 2021).) 2022 NFL Draft Stock - Post-Combine VI (Up - Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State:  In the final weeks before the 2022 NFL Draft, many team sources have come to expect that Wilson will be the first receiver taken and believe he could be a late top-10 pick. With the Falcons selecting eigth overall and the Jets picking at 10th overall, Wilson has two potential landing spots with teams who are in need of more playmaking ability at wide receiver. Wilson has worked out well, and team sources say that his interviews were good too. If Wilson does not go as a top-10 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, he should go in the early teens. Wilson coul most likely end up the first wide out off the board.) (4-19-22):  https://walterfootball.com/draft2022stock_31.php

Lions draft picks: Ranking 5 best combinations for Detroit's two Round 1 selections (Combination 5 - No. 2: Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State. No. 32: Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah.  This is a situation where you're picking Garrett Wilson too high and Devin Lloyd too low (it's hard to imagine him being on board at No. 32), but these two would address some massive positions of need for the Lions. Adding Wilson and Lloyd makes both sides of the ball better, and if Lloyd does nearly drop out of the first round this would be an incredible duo for the Lions to add.  Wilson adds versatility to the receiving corps, whereas Lloyd can move all over the formation at linebacker for Detroit. This is a lot of talent to add to the roster, and even if Wilson is a reach at No. 2, wide receiver is such a massive hole for the Lions right now perhaps it's best to rip the Band-Aid off (and forget your organizational woes drafting receivers early).) (4-14-22):  https://www.sportingnews.com/au/nfl/news/lions-draft-picks-ranking-5-combinations-detroit-round-1/acyxxrteujobzjszgqt33ymk

NFL Draft News and Rumors: Team visits heat up for Garrett Wilson, Charleston Rambo, and Christian Watson (Garrett Wilson, Ohio State - Based on conversations I’ve had with teams since draft meetings have ended, Ohio State’s Garrett Wilson is the consensus top receiver in this year’s draft. He’s also the top wideout on my board. The junior put together a terrific 2021 season, improving his pass-catching numbers to 70 receptions with 1,058 yards, despite the Buckeyes breaking in a new quarterback.  Wilson went on to have a terrific Combine workout, timing 4.38 seconds in the 40 at 192 pounds. He then wowed NFL decision-makers during the Ohio State Pro Day. Wilson’s increase in production is in line with the progress he showed in all areas of the receiver position between 2020 to 2021.  He’s already been on official 30 visits to see the New York Jets as well as the Carolina Panthers. The Washington Commanders also remain on his travel schedule.  Where does Wilson end up in the draft?  People inside the Jets’ facility in Florham Park do not believe Wilson makes it to them with their second pick in Round 1, the 10th selection. This means it’s a distinct possibility the Falcons will take him at No. 8. The overall feeling is should the Falcons pass on Wilson at eight and the Jets at 10, the Commanders will swipe him off the board with the 11th pick.) (4-14-22):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nfl-draft-news-and-rumors-team-visits-heat-up-for-garrett-wilson-charleston-rambo-christian-watson/

2022 NFL Draft wide receiver rankings: Another stacked class of pass catching talent (3.  Garrett Wilson, Ohio State:  Wilson accelerates off the line as well as anyone in this draft class. His ability to plant his foot and explode creates havoc in coverage and led to massive gains as a Buckeye; he ranked ahead of Olave last season (but behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba) with 70 catches for 1,038 yards. He has extreme run-after-catch ability, making him the kind of wideout who can turn a small target into big yardage.  There’s no shortage of ways a creative offensive coordinator could deploy Wilson, who has the straight line speed to roast safeties deep and the agility to break off corners closer to the line of scrimmage. That athleticism manifests in his adjustments to the ball as well; he can make immediate lateral moves that get him to underthrown passes, then roast whichever defensive back has been left standing in a foot race to the end zone.  He’s also capable of selling fakes with subtlety, then using his speed to turn the crease that creates into a gaping hole for his quarterback to lob the ball into for guaranteed easy yardage.  He’s got good, not great hands and could struggle in stretches against bigger corners at 6-foot-0 and 191 pounds, but his ability to shake coverage should negate those physical limitations. He has true burner speed to make deep balls work and the shifty quickness to make short passes *look* like deep balls on the stat sheet. This is a stacked class of wideouts, so you could put Wilson, Olave, or London at the top of your wish list and make a compelling argument for either one.) (4-13-22):  https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-draft-2022-wide-receiver-rankings-garrett-wilson-drake-london

2022 NFL Draft: Ranking the Top 10 receiver prospects (1. Garrett Wilson, Ohio State (2021 stats: 70 receptions, 1,058 yards, 12 touchdowns) - Klatt's thoughts: It's interesting to hear [Wilson] talk about the fact that he needed to become a better route-runner during the course of his career and he focused on that. He really took that to heart. It's very rare when you get a guy that can run as fast as Garrett Wilson and yet is as precise as he is as a route-runner. That's a big reason why he's my No. 1 wide receiver and why he probably is going to get selected in the top-10 of this year's NFL Draft.") NFL Draft News and Rumors: Travon Walker, Kyle Hamilton, and others (Which wide receivers are viewed as potential first-round prospects?  Though the order may be slightly different than some have it, there are few surprises. Teams I spoke with have the receivers ranked Garrett Wilson, Drake London, Chris Olave, Jameson Williams, Jahan Dotson, and Treylon Burks.) Treash: A look at the former five-star recruits in the 2022 NFL Draft (WR GARRETT WILSON, OHIO STATE BUCKEYES (247 Composite Rating: 20th, Draft Projection: Top 15):  Wilson is coming off back-to-back 80.0-plus PFF grades and makes his mark as an elite route-runner. He pairs that with top-notch body control and an innate ability to shake guys in the open field. The physical aspect of the 6-foot, 183-pound receiver’s game is a concern, but it shouldn’t be enough to prevent him from sliding further than 11th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. His game should allow him to have immediate success in the slot or when given a cushion on the outside.) (4-13-22):   https://www.pff.com/news/draft-breaking-down-former-five-star-recruits-2022-nfl-draft

2022 NFL Draft: Who should be the first wide receiver taken off the board? (David Carr: I'm looking at the draft order when answering this question, and though many will think this is quite bold, I think the New York Jets could land a wide receiver with the No. 4 overall pick! And with it, they should select Garrett Wilson, who might not be around at No. 10 (the team's second pick on Day 1). The Jets have an offense that requires a multi-faceted receiver like Deebo Samuel, Davante Adams and Brandon Aiyuk, and Wilson is that guy in this class.  Rhett Lewis: In a receiver class full of different flavors and high-end skill sets, Garrett Wilson feels like the most complete player of the group. He's not the biggest (6-foot, 183 pounds) or fastest (4.38-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine), but he has plenty to offer an NFL team. The Ohio State product is the best option to make impact plays from anywhere on the field.  Joe Thomas: Garrett Wilson is polished, competitive and has great hands, and he puts his talents on display every time he steps on the field. His game tape, NFL Scouting Combine and Ohio State pro day workouts prove he is the premier receiver of this year's draft and can play any role on any NFL team.) 2022 NFL Draft preview: 5 wide receivers that could interest the Lions (2. Garrett Wilson, Ohio State (6-0, 183. 4.38 40-yard dash.):  Wilson was a touchdown machine for the Buckeyes, scoring 12 touchdowns in 11 games to go along with 70 receptions for 1,058 yards (15.1 average). Wilson can play inside and outside, and his 4.3 speed shows up on tape with his ability to gain separation at the top of the route. He really excels with the ball in his hands after the catch. He can also return punts.) (4-12-22):  https://www.detroitlions.com/news/2022-nfl-draft-preview-5-wide-receivers-lions-london-wilson-williams

Monson: 2022 NFL Draft Wide Receiver Rankings (1. GARRETT WILSON, OHIO STATE:  This draft class might not have a Ja’Marr Chase level prospect — a true superstar receiver with no true flaw to his game. If you read scouting reports of Chase, the negatives tended to be vague and imprecise, while his positives were many. Wilson is similar in that he isn’t bad at anything, but the only question is whether he has the high-end potential that Chase does. He is an excellent route runner who can be better at the catch point than you would think given his size. He caught 61.5% of contested targets in 2021 and is one of the safest receiver prospects you’ll find.) (4-8-22):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2022-nfl-draft-wide-receiver-rankings-monson

2022 NFL draft: The top 16 receivers (4
Garrett Wilson, Ohio State (Height: 6’0″ (34th) Weight: 183 (13th), 40-Yard Dash: 4.38 (89th), Vertical Jump: 36 inches (57th), Broad Jump: 10’3″ (61st), 20-Yard Shuttle: 4.36 seconds (23rd)):  Bio: Garrett Wilson was a five-star recruit coming out of Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas, where he rewrote the record book during his high school days. He left school having set records for career receptions, total yards and total touchdowns. He also led Lake Travis to a 6A state championship in 2016.  Having spent the early part of his life in Ohio before moving to Texas, it was a bit of a homecoming when Wilson chose to play college football at Ohio State. He saw playing time immediately, catching 30 passes for 432 yards and five touchdowns in 2019. In the shortened 2020 season, Wilson caught 43 passes for 723 yards and six scores.  Last year was his true breakout campaign, as Wilson caught 70 passes for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns.  Stat to Know: Wilson averaged 16.8 yards per reception in 2020, when he made a move to the slot. That is a big number for a slot receiver.  Strengths: Wilson is a shifty, elusive receiver off the line and after the catch. His sudden movements and change-of-direction skills work to stress defenders after the snap, and Wilson has good feel for stressing the leverage of defenders and giving himself an advantage early in the down.  Take this play against Akron.  Wilson squares off against a press-aligned cornerback playing with inside leverage. But the receiver explodes off the snap and threatens the corner to the outside, before working across his face and establishing inside leverage. Wilson then shakes the defender with his speed and change-of-direction skills, creating a big play in the downfield passing game.  Those quickness skills show up on manufactured touches as well. Ohio State found ways to get him the football on sweeps and screens, and Wilson is a potential home run on those plays as well.  Wilson also has a big-time catch radius and the ability to adjust to footballs on vertical throws, creating more big plays for his offense. While he did most of his work out of the slot in 2020, he saw increased snaps on the outside in 2021 and made the most of them, working himself open on plays like this against Michigan and making his quarterback look good.  With the ability to create explosive plays a need for many NFL offenses, you can see why Wilson might be at the top of many boards.  Weaknesses: Wilson’s change-of-direction skills were enough against press-aligned defenders who were on the smaller side, or who were not overly physical. Longer, or more aggressive, corners gave him trouble from such alignments, and as you project him to the NFL game where he will see more corners willing to take the fight to him at the snap, you can see how the transition might take some time.  Similar to another receiver we will discuss a bit later, too much of a good thing can be a problem for Wilson. His change-of-direction skills, along with his footwork, are impressive. But when the extra stutter-step or two throws off the timing of a concept, that becomes a problem. His ability to separate is good enough, and sometimes less can be more.  Conclusion: Part of the reason others might have Wilson higher on boards is his potential. There is still room for growth with him, and if he shows he can operate on the outside at the next level, the sky is the limit. Even if his eventual NFL role is as a slot option with schemed touches in a Z role, his ability to create explosive plays from such alignments will be a big add for NFL offenses.  Comparison: Everywhere you look, you see the name Diontae Johnson next to Wilson’s profile. Works for me.) (4-6-22):  https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/lists/2022-nfl-draft-drake-london-chris-olave-jameson-williams/

Lions 2022 NFL draft: A wide receiver for every round (First round: Garrett Wilson, Ohio State:  There are several appealing candidates worthy of Lions consideration at the No. 32 overall pick. It bleeds into the second round mix at No. 34 overall as well.  Wilson gets the nod of those with the potential to be available for a couple of reasons. Most notably, he’s a proven playmaker who can win both vertically and inside the red zone. Wilson is also an improving all-around talent, showing better route-running and blocking as his Buckeyes career progressed.) 2022 NFL Draft: Five takeaways from Ole Miss QB Matt Corral, Ohio State pro days (4) Two former Ohio State receivers confirmed what we already knew: They're first-round talents. Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson stood on their 40-yard-dash times from the NFL Scouting Combine (Olave: 4.39 seconds; Wilson: 4.38), declining to run it again in Columbus on Wednesday. Instead, they were able to focus on route running and looked every bit the part. Olave reached out to snag a deep pass from C.J. Stroud, while Wilson ran an excellent comeback route to haul in a well-placed throw from Stroud, who was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2021 but remains a season away from draft eligibility.) NFL Pro Day News and Rumors: Ohio State WRs Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave impress NFL brass in attendance (Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson steal the show at Ohio State Pro Day:  Wide receiver Chris Olave had a brilliant workout. He looked sharp and sudden running routes but also very smooth. He caught the ball well and did an exceptional job tracking the pass in the air. Olave has been one of the top-rated receivers for this class since last summer.  Garrett Wilson also looked tremendous all day. As someone told me, there was a discernible difference between the two receivers. And while Olave was good, Wilson was on another level. His routes were super crisp yet smooth. He showed great body control and caught everything.  Few, if any, left the workout not believing Wilson is the top receiver in the draft.  Both receivers had extensive 1-on-1 meetings with the Jets, Bills, Patriots, and Saints over the past two days. All four teams had their receiver coaches on hand.) (3-23-22):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nfl-pro-day-news-and-rumors-ohio-state-wr-chris-olave-garrett-wilson-shine/

2022 NFL Draft: Ranking the top 17 WRs in this year’s class (Garrett Wilson (Ohio State), 6-foot-0, 183 pounds:  Wilson rounds out my top tier of receivers and is currently tied with Drake London as the betting favorite to be the first WR selected in the draft. That just goes to show you how loaded this WR class is with talent near the top. All four of these prospects deserve top-15 consideration.  You really have to be careful as a defense game-planning for Wilson because he’s got legitimate 4.38 speed, but if you play him too soft, then he’ll carve you up underneath. What I love the most about him is when he does get that target underneath, he’s always looking to get the most yards he possibly can rather than immediately taking it to the sidelines.  Wilson projects best as a slot or “Z” receiver in the NFL and will thrive in an offense that focuses on setting itself up for a deep passing attack.  Round grade: 1st round) (3-17-22):   https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2022/3/17/22961513/2022-nfl-draft-ranking-top-wide-receivers-tiers

Ranking Lions Options If Aidan Hutchinson Is Top Overall Pick (7. Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State:  The best among a loaded wide receiver corps at Ohio State, Wilson proved to be an outstanding deep threat in the Buckeye offense. He’s got blazing speed, as he ran a 4.36 40-yard dash at the combine and is very explosive to match.  The Lions need another playmaker out wide next to Amon-Ra St. Brown, and recently re-signed Josh Reynolds. It’s been said that Detroit wants to be players in the wide receiver market in free agency, so maybe Holmes addresses the need that way.  It’s unlikely that Wilson will indeed be the selection at No. 2, but he’s the best player at a position of big need. If the team is unable to bring in a big-time wideout, there’s potential for Wilson to be donning the Lions' colors in 2022.) NFL Draft stock watch: Who raised -- or lowered -- their profile at the 2022 Combine? (Stock rising: Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State - Wilson came to Indianapolis with the potential to be the first receiver selected among a stacked class. He backed up the hype with a sub-4.4 second 40-yard dash that seemingly proves the route running he used to torch the Big Ten is transferrable to the NFL.  With Drake London opting out of workouts and Treylon Burks clocking in at a 4.55s 40 — solid for a 6’3, 225-pound thickmonster! — Wilson may have used his time in Indy to blast his way to the top of the draft board. At 6’0 and 183 pounds he combines decent size with solid top end speed and an innate playmaking ability that can’t be taught.) (3-8-22):    https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-draft-stock-combine-raised-lowered-2022

All-Combine Team: Who crushed it at each position? (Garrett Wilson
Ohio State (Best team fits: New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals.):  Wilson and Olave are different types of receivers, but Wilson answered an important question about his speed by posting a 4.38 40-yard dash on his first attempt. Wilson wisely sat on that number, then showed out in the on-field drills, running most of his routes with the same precision that elevated his status at Ohio State and making a handful of highlight grabs in a variety of locations. Wilson had a few hiccups along the way, something he told NFL Network's Stacey Dales that he plans to clean up with his pro day in Columbus, but the tape is what put him on the national radar, and that tape is chock full of expert-level route running. Add in a surprisingly fast 40 time and you have a strong résumé for a guaranteed first-round selection in a deep WR class. The Buckeyes owned the second receiver session on Thursday night, and Wilson very well could end up being the first receiver off the board in April.) NFL Combine winners and losers: Malik Willis, Jordan Davis impress ahead of 2022 NFL Draft (Winners: Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson - Ohio State hasn't had a first-round receiver in the NFL Draft in 15 years, but Olave and teammate Wilson likely will change that.  Wilson ran a 4.38 and Olave a 4.39 in the 40, part of a group of nine receivers that ran under 4.4 in the 40. Olave (6-0, 183)  had 35 TD receptions on 175 catches in college, and he measured at 6-foot and 187 pounds. Wilson (6-0, 183)  had 23 TDs on 143 catches in three seasons.  Both are poised to be drafted in the first half of the first round. ) (3-7-22):   https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-combine-winners-losers-2022-draft/gw36f22v50vucmqdiaautc2w

2022 NFL Combine results: 15 standouts from the wide receiver group (Skyy Moore (Western Michigan, 5-foot-9 1⁄2, 195) looked smooth in routes, quick in and out of his breaks, and likely solidified himself as a second-round pick.) The wide receivers at the NFL Combine were historically fast (Garrett Wilson, Ohio State: 4.38s - Wilson backed up his case to be the first wideout off the board in April by showcasing the speed that left Big Ten cornerbacks swatting at ghosts last fall.) Tyquan Thornton's 4.28 40-yard dash headlines fastest receiver class ever at NFL Scouting Combine (Ohio State's Garrett Wilson (4.38).  That last figure, Wilson's 4.38, could be the most notable of all. Already rated as the top wide receiver -- and No. 6 overall prospect -- on NFL Network draft guru Daniel Jeremiah's board, Wilson was generally viewed as more of a premier route runner than a speed merchant. That blazing-fast time provides a resounding response to those doubting Wilson's long speed -- and a welcome boost to an already-strong prospect résumé.  Olave and Wilson went on to shine in the on-field drills, elevating themselves in a class filled with quality talent -- and historic speed.) 2022 NFL Combine Stock Report - Wide Receivers (Up - Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State:  Garrett Wilson ran faster than college teammate Chris Olave at the combine, clocking in at 4.38 officially. 9 NFL Draft prospects the Lions should watch at the 2022 NFL Combine (Garrett Wilson & Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State:  It seems like an outside shot that the Lions target a wide receiver with the second pick. However, the success of Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson in the past two years have shown the value a young receiver can add to an offense. There are perhaps three names in the frame, but only Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave will be on the field this week.  The alternative options in Indianapolis could be Treylon Burks and Jahan Dotson. Much like the cornerback situation, good performances from those two could mean the Lions are willing to wait on a receiver. However, if the fringe first-round prospects see their stock diminish, it could increase Wilson and Olave’s perceived value if they perform well this week.) 2022 scouting combine: WR measurements reveal some surprises (Garrett Wilson, Ohio State:  Wilson’s hand size and wingspan stand out in a positive way, even if he measured a little smaller than his Ohio State listing. In fact, the wingspan and hand size are both larger than expected even if Wilson measured at his listed 6-foot, 192 pounds.  For a 5-foot-11 3/4″, 183-pound wideout, the hand size just under 10″ is enormous.) 2022 NFL Combine: Malik Willis, Aidan Hutchinson top ones to watch (Wilson and Bell are crafty route runners with enough quickness and pizzazz to twist defenders into knots. Each of the Big Ten products has the potential to dominate his one-on-one matchups on the perimeter. Displaying the skills and versatility to play out wide or in the slot, Wilson and Bell could explode as No. 1 receivers at the next level.) 8 Receivers for Lions to Watch at NFL Scouting Combine (Ohio State's Garrett Wilson:  Wilson proved during his time at Ohio State that he's a dynamic receiver with the ball in his hands.  He projects to be a slot receiver at the next level, so he might not perfectly mesh with St. Brown.  However, he'll still be worth checking out in Indy.) 2022 NFL Combine preview: 15 wide receivers the Lions should be watching (Garrett Wilson (Ohio State, 6-foot-0, 186) is potentially the best receiver in this class, but unless the Lions trade back from pick No. 2, he probably isn’t in their pick range.)(2-23-22): https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2022/2/23/22944751/2022-nfl-combine-preview-15-wide-receivers-detroit-lions

2022 NFL combine: USC’s Drake London headlines deep receiver class as Detroit Lions search for playmaker (Garrett Wilson (Ohio State): Caught 70 passes for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns in 11 games for the Buckeyes this past season. That’s pretty good. And he did it while playing 82.9% of his snaps on the outside, after spending 73.4% of his snaps in the slot in 2020. Teams will love that versatility. But at 6-foot and 188 pounds, he’ll probably begin his career in the slot. And in case you hadn’t noticed, the Lions seem set there for the foreseeable. There’s no doubting Wilson’s talent, but among the top receivers in the draft, he’s probably the one that makes the least sense for Detroit.) 2022 Combine preview: Wide receiver (1. Garrett Wilson, Ohio State, 6-0, 188:  A polished route runner with good run-after-the-catch ability, Wilson caught 70 passes for 1,058 yards (15.1 average) and 12 touchdowns in 11 games for the Buckeyes this past season. NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah compared Wilson to Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs, which is pretty high praise.) 2022 NFL Draft: Pros and cons for PFF's top five wide receivers (1. GARRETT WILSON, OHIO STATE BUCKEYES (PFF Big Board Rank: 10):  Pros - Wilson has insane body control. He can adjust to just about anything and has a big catch radius.  The former Buckeye's stop-start and change of direction are special. He's bouncy in and out of breaks.  Wilson has an innate feel as a ball carrier and is a weapon after the catch.  Cons - He doesn't have enough answers for press coverage yet. Long corners gave him issues.  He gets caught too “dancy” in his routes. This throws off his timing and won't fly in the NFL. He also struggles with physicality in his routes and is rarely the aggressor.) Monson: The case for drafting a WR or CB with the No. 1 pick over an OT/EDGE (Receiver is an interesting debate this year. None of the available prospects seem as obviously dominant as Chase was a year ago, but there are some spectacularly productive players available. The strike rate of receivers in the draft seems to be getting better and better.  Ohio State’s Garrett Wilson has elite movement skills and route-running savvy. He hauled in a dozen touchdowns this past year and generated 3.0 yards per route run. For his career, passes thrown his way generated a 140.6 passer rating.) Tony Pauline’s NFL News and Rumors: George Fant, Mekhi Becton, Garrett Wilson, Jameson Williams, and more (WR1 in the 2022 NFL Draft: Garrett Wilson or Jameson Williams?  Receiver rankings for the 2022 NFL Draft are all over the board, and it’s anyone’s guess how they’ll fall in the draft. But here’s what I’m piecing together after talking with people the past couple of days.  Right now, it looks like the top spot a the position could go to either Garrett Wilson of Ohio State or Jameson Williams of Alabama. Medical exams on Williams’ knee during the 2022 NFL Combine loom large in his final ranking.  There are a lot of teams who like Treylon Burks of Arkansas as the third wideout on the board. But just as many fear he’ll turn into the next N’Keal Harry.) 2022 NFL Draft Position Rankings: Wide Receivers (2. GARRETT WILSON, OHIO STATE (BIG BOARD RANK: 12):  The natural. Wilson's ability to generate separation is the best in the class. 2022 NFL draft: 5 wide receivers to watch for the Detroit Lions (Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State:  Chris Olave would work here too, for what it’s worth. It’s just hard to ignore Garrett Wilson’s ability with the ball in his hands. Wilson caught 70 passes for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns this year, with the 6-foot receiver forcing 19 missed tackles after the catch. And while consistent looks on contested balls were hard to come by due to Ohio State’s loaded receiver room, Wilson still caught 61.5% of those chances. Wilson is fast and explosive, showing an ability to run routes inside or outside, even getting his fair share of screen looks. He might not be the downfield, 50-50 dominator this team could use, but Wilson’s ability pairs nicely with St. Brown, and even Reynolds if he finds himself back in Detroit in 2022.) 5 Draft Prospects to Watch in Ohio State-Michigan Game (Ohio State WR Garrett Wilson:  Here's another receiver for the Lions' front-office brass to keep its eyes on throughout Saturday's contest.  The junior has caught 60 balls for 939 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2021.  Olave maybe has proven to be a more reliable pass-catcher, but Wilson would still add some value to a depleted Detroit receivers corps.) Detroit Lions 2022 draft watch: 17 top-100 prospects will battle today (OSU WR Garrett Wilson (6-0, 186, Junior), Chris Olave (6-0, 185, Senior) versus
UM DB Daxton Hill (6-0, 195, Junior):  Speaking of three potential first-rounders, not only does this game feature three studs in the trenches but they have three skill players who are each among the top-five best players at their position and could all hear their names called in the first 32 picks.  As is the case at several positions in this draft cycle, there is no clear No. 1 player at their position, but Wilson and Olave are both in contention to be the first wide receiver selected.  Wilson can play both on the outside and in the slot, chewing up the cushion and creating separation early in his routes. His ability to put his foot in the ground and make hard cuts before and after the catch are elite. He understands route concepts, gains leverage on all varieties of defensive backs, and can make plays all over the field.) 2022 NFL Draft Stock - Week 11 (Up - Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State:  Wilson absolutely dominated the Purdue Boilermakers over the weekend. They had no answer for Ohio State's explosive playmaker, who partied Al Bundy style, racking up four touchdowns in a single game. On the first drive of the game, Wilson moved the chains before getting wide open in the flat for a short catch. He then darted down the field for the 21-yard score. In the second quarter, Wilson made a leaping touchdown grab over a defensive back that displayed excellent body control. Later in the first half, Wilson showed his explosiveness and deep speed by taking a jet sweep for a 51-yard touchdown.  In the third quarter on a fourth down, Wilson caught a quick slant for a short catch, and after the catch, he made a great move to cut back the other direction and darted into the end zone with a 24-yard touchdown. Wilson finished the day with 10 receptions for 126 yards and three touchdowns alongside his 51-yard touchdown run.  Wilson's performance against Purdue should help him to end up a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He showed his game-breaking speed and electrifying playmaking ability. Wilson ran superb routes, showing suddenness in-and-out of his breaks. Along with being fast playmaker, Wilson had good body control to adjust to the ball. Obviously, Wilson was phenomenal after the catch. Wilson looks like a future first-round pick next April.) College Football Team of the Week: Mississippi State QB Will Rogers climbs to new highs (WR: Garrett Wilson, Ohio State:  Garrett Wilson put forth a ridiculous outing against Purdue on Saturday. With the eyes of the nation thinking upset, the Buckeyes demolished the Boilermakers — and Wilson was the highlight. He scored 4 total touchdowns — including a 51-yard run on an end-around –, but his receptions were remarkable.  Wilson had 10 catches for 126 yards and 3 TDs as he displayed what potentially makes him the top receiver for the 2022 NFL Draft. His body control on an end-zone fade set social media off, but Wilson’s consistency on every route and every snap was unmatched.) Week 11 College Football Players of the Week: Garrett Wilson and Aidan Hutchinson thrive (Garrett Wilson, WR Ohio State:  Garrett Wilson was in his bag on Saturday, helping the Buckeyes blow out Purdue at home. He had 126 yards and 3 receiving touchdowns but also added a 51-yard touchdown run. Ohio State appears to be building some momentum towards a playoff run, and Wilson gives them an incredible asset in the passing game.) NFL draft prospects for the Lions to know in CFB Week 11 (Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State:  The Buckeyes have three wideouts who should be drafted by the end of the third round. While Chris Olave is the best college performer, a lot of NFL draft analysts will say Wilson has the brightest NFL future.  The word “explosive” springs to the lips when watching the 6-foot, 193-pound junior. Wilson has rare get-off speed and burst out of cuts. His ability to get the ball in the air calls to mind DeAndre Hopkins. The hands are strong but soft. The only real knock on Wilson is that he does benefit from a loaded surrounding cast and isn’t a great blocker.  Wilson and the Buckeyes face off against upset-minded Purdue (3:30, ABC) in a contest that also features the next player on the list…) (11-13-21):   https://lionswire.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-draft-prospects-for-the-lions-to-know-in-cfb-week-11/

Ranking the 25 best prospects in the 2021 & 2022 NFL Drafts (25. 2022 WR GARRETT WILSON, OHIO STATE:  Wilson is the lone receiver represented from the 2022 class. While it’s not on the same level as the past two receiver classes, it’s far from a down receiver class. Expect Wilson — as well as his teammate Chris Olave, USC’s Drake London, Arkansas’ Treylon Burks, Alabama’s Jameson Williams and Penn State’s Jahan Dotson  — to be in the first-round mix. ) (11-12-21):   https://www.pff.com/news/draft-25-best-prospects-2021-2022-nfl-draft-rankings

Top 10 Wide Receivers in the 2022 NFL Draft (2. Garrett Wilson, Ohio State:  While Chris Olave is still a top-20 player on my big board, I had Garrett Wilson over him at WR1. My reasoning was simple: While Olave has great speed and technical refinement, Wilson has shown that same refinement this year, and he’s a better three-level threat. A three-level threat, of course, refers to a receiver’s ability to convert before the catch, at the catch point, and after the catch.  Wilson might not quite have the top-end speed that Olave has, but one could argue he’s a more universal threat when the ball comes his way. He has searing lateral explosiveness and twitch, which he can use to separate. When the ball is in the air, Wilson is a great contested-catch threat with impressive focus and body control. And after the catch, he can use that same lateral explosiveness to generate big plays. Whether you have Olave or Wilson at WR1, it’s always going to be close.) Detroit Lions 2022 draft watch: 10 prospects to watch this Saturday (Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State (Junior)
6-foot-0, 192 pounds:  Like Olave, Wilson doesn’t have traditional WR1 size, but he is one of the best route runners in this class and gains separation on a regular basis. His technical precision allows him to gain advantages at all three levels, and his ability to control his speed makes him a reliable target. Ohio State will use him often in the slot, which gets him involved in a lot of creative ways, but his ability to stretch the field is something the Lions will appreciate) (10-23-21):   https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2021/10/23/22734224/detroit-lions-2022-draft-watch-10-college-prospects-to-watch

2022 NFL Draft WR Watch: Alabama's big-time prospect (Garrett Wilson, Ohio State: Stock Up - Best catch:  In the first quarter, Wilson demonstrated just how bouncy he is on a fade in the end zone. He not only got open with a nasty inside juke and exploded upward. Wilson got his feet down as he was being hit in the back corner.  He also got open on a deep comeback in the second quarter with the cornerback about five yards away from him. Ohio State's springy wideout made five receptions for 84 yards with two scores, the second showcased his pure speed on a vertical route to the back pylon in which he blew past the cornerback. Wilson is trending toward being a first-round lock.) College Football Wide Receiver Rankings 2021: Nevada, Memphis break through (4. Garrett Wilson, Ohio State:  It’s almost gone unnoticed — simply because we expected it — how good both Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave have been this season. Both receivers have validated their claims to first-round consideration.  Wilson, in particular, has been a consistent target for his new quarterbacks. Even sharing targets with Olave and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, he’s still top 20 in the nation in receiving yards with 462. He also has 4 scores on 26 catches.  Both Wilson and Olave have been assets to the Buckeyes’ offense, but Wilson’s three-level ability arguably makes him more valuable.  Wilson has great route-running ability before the catch. At the catch point, he’s assertive in contested situations. After the catch, he tacks on extra yardage with explosiveness and agility. Wilson’s a complete player, and he’ll be relied upon in more game-changing plays down the stretch.) 2022 NFL Draft Stock - Week 5 (Up - Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State: While Chris Olave gets more attention, some team sources have said they have been very impressed with Wilson this year. Some feel he is more smooth and explosive than Olave for the next level, while others prefer Olave. Regardless of the order the two get drafted, both are impressive wide receivers and Wilson is helping himself with team evaluators this season.) 2022 NFL Draft WR Watch: Chris Olave rebounds (Garrett Wilson, Ohio State: Stock Steady - Two of Wilson's early catches featured how sudden and physical he is after the catch. Then, his final grab of the day came on a shallow cross in which he put his acceleration on full display, exploding up the sideline for a touchdown. From a traits-perspective, it was one of the better three-reception, 71-yard contests you'll see.) Top prospects for all 0-2 NFL teams (Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State:  New York spent on Corey Davis and Keelan Cole in free agency. They drafted Elijah Moore at the top of the second round in the 2021 draft. Denzel Mims was a second-round pick the year before. Call me crazy -- I've heard it before -- they need more receiver help at the beginning stages of the Zach Wilson era inside MetLife Stadium. It's just the name of the game in today's NFL, especially if you have a first-round quarterback on a cheap rookie deal.  Wilson brings the best blend of suddenness, leaping ability, speed, and YAC skills of any receiver in this draft class. The Jets would not regret drafting Wilson for Wilson. Believe me.) 2022 NFL Draft WR Watch: USC's Drake London shining (Garrett Wilson, Ohio State: Stock Steady - Ohio State's win over Tulsa was headlined by TreVeyon Henderson's 277 yards on the ground, but Wilson still had six grabs for 70 yards with a score.   Early, Wilson had a difficult reception over the middle on a slant, then demonstrated how good he is at separating on an out-breaking route in the second quarter. Sudden stop and start toward the sideline. The catch was well outside of his frame too. While Wilson wasn't a focal point of Ohio State's attack, it was another strong performance for the wideout who moves like a first-round pick.) Week 2 college football matchups and prospects to watch (Oregon CB Mykael Wright vs. Ohio State WRs Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave:  Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave did nothing to dispel claims that they deserve to be considered the best in the nation in Week 1. Both players found the end zone and recorded at least 80 receiving yards against Minnesota. At this point, we know how Olave and Wilson win. Olave is the blazing technician, while Wilson is the acrobatic, explosive three-level threat.  Together, Olave and Wilson make for a nearly unstoppable combination. But they’ll face one of their tougher tests of the 2021 season in Oregon CB Mykael Wright. Wright is a decent-sized cornerback with excellent burst, speed, and physicality. He’s a feisty competitor who won’t let his opponents off easy at the catch point and has the athleticism to match the Buckeyes duo.) NFL Draft 2022 prospect watch: Matt Corral, Ohio State WRs rise; Sam Howell falls after Week 1 (Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, WRs, Ohio State.:  Olave and Wilson were Sporting News' Nos. 1 and 3 wide receivers for the '22 draft going into the season. Olave is the more the burner, while Wilson has been touted as the reliable technician. Neither was disappointing in those respective roles in the opener against Minnesota, lifting QB C.J. Stroud after a slow start.  Olave came through with the typical home runs (4 catches for 117 yards, 2 TDs) and Wilson (5 catches, 80 yards) also had his own big play, a 56-yarder as a near match to Olava's 61-yard game high. The pair will continue to create coverage nightmares for the Big Ten. They are both strong first-rounders — the only question is who will be drafted higher and if either will go ahead of Alabama's latest stud, John Metchie III. Oregon cornerback Mykael Wright will be good coverage test for either in Week 2.) Week 2 college football games to watch this weekend (If there was any doubt that Ohio State possesses the best wide receiving room in the nation, that was cast aside during the win over Minnesota. Chris Olave flashed his speed and route-running savvy on the way to 117 yards and 2 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Garrett Wilson tallied 80 yards and a score. Wilson’s ability to wreak havoc was best evidenced by a beautifully executed double move that left him with a wide-open touchdown.) 2022 NFL Draft WR Watch: Alabama's Metchie next in line (Garrett Wilson, Ohio State: Stock Up - Wilson's whole night was encapsulated by his 56-yard touchdown late in the third quarter that allowed Ohio State to regain the lead against the Minnesota Fighting P.J. Flecks. Wilson's explosiveness and long speed were clear on his long score -- note to defensive coordinators, you're going to want to keep a safety over the top wherever he aligns pre-snap.) Ohio State's top prospects score big in 45-31 win vs. Minnesota (Wide receiver Chris Olave needed just four receptions to rack up 117 yards and two touchdowns through the air, averaging nearly 30 yards per catch, while fellow pass-catcher Garrett Wilson hauled in four passes for 80 yards and a score.) 2022 NFL Draft: OSU WR duo sticks out in loaded Big Ten (Wide receivers coach Brian Hartline has been the best in the country at developing players at the position. Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave stand out as likely first-round picks.) Top wide receivers in the 2022 NFL Draft include Garrett Wilson, David Bell (1. Garrett Wilson, Ohio State:  For all practical intents and purposes, Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave produced around the same amount last year. Wilson had 43 catches for 723 yards and 6 touchdowns, while Olave had 50 catches for 729 yards and 7 touchdowns. So why is Wilson higher on this list? Any comparison between these two is splitting hairs, but for Wilson, the three-level ability is key.  Wilson isn’t quite as refined of a route runner as Olave at this point, but one could argue Wilson has the potential to be devastating in that area. He has incredible lateral suddenness and burst, as well as impressive hip sink and change-of-direction ability. His explosiveness and twitch translate to strong RAC ability. Down the field, Wilson has elite vertical athleticism, body control, and focus. He has the star potential that Olave doesn’t.) Draft: Comprehensive WR class primer (Garrett Wilson, Ohio State - Reminds me of: Jalen Reagor.  Feels like: Round 1 talent.  Trump cards: Suddenness, burst, acrobatic-catch skills.  Needs to show better: Route-running crispness, speed.  Mash Olave's route-running mastery and Wilson's athletic chops together, and you have a slam-dunk, no-questions-asked Top 10 pick. As someone who idolized Allen Iverson during middle school, I adore Wilson's "bag" with the ball in his hands and how he crosses defenders at the line to free himself. But Wilson should separate more frequently given his physical gifts. And I don't know how truly fast he is in a straight line. ) (8-13-31):   https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2022-nfl-draft-ohio-state-sec-pass-catchers-highlight-deep-wide-receiver-class/

Top 10 2022 NFL Draft prospects in the Big Ten ( 1. WR GARRETT WILSON, OHIO STATE (JUNIOR):  Wilson isn't the most physically imposing wideout, but he’s WR1 in PFF’s early receiver rankings because there just aren't many holes to poke in his game. He’s a very loose all-around athlete who can run a full route tree at a high level and make plays after the catch. He’s got serious springs and ball skills to make plays well outside his frame.  During his time as a Buckeye, Wilson has hauled in 73.0% of his targets despite a 13-yard average depth of target. Last season, he racked up 723 yards in only eight games while averaging over 3.00 yards per route run.  We can’t wait to see what kind of numbers the rising junior puts up with a full season’s worth of snaps.) Big Ten 2022 NFL Draft prospects and scouting reports (Garrett Wilson, WR (Grade: 4.00 | Projected Round: 1st):  Garrett Wilson is not far behind Olave, and some scouts I’ve spoken with actually like the junior slightly better. Though not as fast, Wilson has a stouter build and is better in traffic. Wilson also received a first-round grade on my board.) PFF 2021 College Preseason Biletnikoff Award Watch List: Best WR in college football (2. GARRETT WILSON, OHIO STATE:  Like his teammate Olave, Wilson is one of the best route-runners in the game. He impressed against single coverage (sixth in PFF grade on such plays) and frequently found soft spots against zone coverage while working from the slot, leading to a separation rate that ranked eighth-best in college football last season. The 2019 five-star recruit is bound to put up numbers in this offense once again in 2021.) (7-22-21):  https://www.pff.com/news/college-football-preseason-award-watch-list-biletnikoff-award-2021

Big Ten Preseason All-Conference team ahead of 2021 college football season (Wide Receiver: Garrett Wilson, Ohio State: Garrett Wilson may have been edged out by teammate Olave but be under no illusion — he’s a top-tier receiver not just in this conference but in all of college football. The third-year receiver has incredible route running, catchability, and body control. Additionally, Wilson can add yardage after the catch with a combination of decent speed and stellar mobility.  Although he finished behind Olave in receiving yards and touchdowns last year, Wilson was one of the Big Ten’s top receivers in numerous receiving categories. He earns a spot on our Big Ten All-Conference first-team after finishing third in total yards (723), fifth in touchdowns (6) and yards per catch (16.81), and fourth in yards per game (90.4).) College Football: Ranking the top 10 wide receiver duos entering 2021 (1. OHIO STATE: CHRIS OLAVE + GARRETT WILSON:  Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline has established himself as one of the best assistants in all of college football over the past few years. He is repeatedly hitting home runs on the recruiting front and is breeding high-upside players into elite-level route-runners. Just look at his top two wide receivers heading into the 2021 season.  Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson both ranked inside the top 10 in receiving grade last season among all Power Five wide receivers. And both generated over three yards per route run in 2020, making them one of five Power Five wide receiver tandems to do so in a single season over the past five years. Let’s also not forget that the Buckeyes' receiving room features one of the biggest breakout candidates in college football in 2020 five-star Jaxon Smith-Njigba.  Ohio State's wide receivers in 2021 might be 2019 Alabama level of special.) The PFF Preseason College Football All-Big Ten Team: Indiana's Michael Penix Jr. headlines the quarterback position (First-Team: Garrett Wilson, Ohio State:  Like his teammate Olave, Wilson is one of the best route-runners in the game. He impressed against single coverage (ranked sixth in PFF grade on such plays) and frequently found soft spots against zone coverage while working from the slot, leading to a separation rate that ranked eighth-best in college football this past season. Early 2022 NFL Draft wide receiver rankings and class overview (1. GARRETT WILSON, OHIO STATE (JUNIOR):  Whatever “it” is that makes an all-around unstoppable wide receiver, Wilson has it. The bounce, the body control, the juice, the hands — you name it, the Ohio State product has it. He doesn’t have a go-to move. Rather, he has a way of moving. And he’s just so smooth.  The only thing he doesn’t quite have is the prototypical size at 6-foot, 193 pounds. However, the NFL prototype is getting increasingly smaller, given the way the game is trending, making that a non-issue. He has the ability to play bigger than that anyway.  Wilson hauled in 43 passes for 723 yards in only eight games last season, including eight deep receptions. He can win at every level of the football field and can be penciled into the first round of the 2022 draft right now.) 2022 NFL Draft Big Board: Early top 50 prospect rankings (14. Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State:  Garrett Wilson was one of Ohio State’s most dynamic receiving weapons in 2020, but 2021 could be a chance for him to reach even higher heights. Wilson doesn’t have a dominating frame, but his impeccable body control and focus at the catch point earn him plenty of real estate on highlight reels. On top of that, he has the twitch and burst to gain separation as a route runner.) (5-8-22):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2022-nfl-draft-big-board-top-50-prospects/

2022 NFL Draft prospects to watch at each position (Wilson is finally eligible and arguably the most efficient prospect at his position in his class.) (5-6-21):   https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2022-nfl-draft-sam-howell-spencer-rattler-among-five-prospects-to-watch-at-each-position/

Top 15 NFL draft rankings for 2022: Big-name talent awaits (T-15. Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, WRs, Ohio State:  It's hard to choose between the Buckeyes' pair of star wide receivers, so why not include each one? Olave surprised many by returning for his senior season after consistently beating defenses deep. Wilson, however, is one of college football's most explosive players and flashy pass catchers.)
