Draft wire (Aidan Hutchinson has a new running mate on the edge in Detroit, as the Lions add yet another dynamic pass rusher to their defensive front. Paschal is an explosive, physical edge defender who should give the Lions a dominant duo for years to come. CBS (46. Lions: Josh Paschal, EDGE, Kentucky - Grade: B. Hair-on-fire rusher with low-center-of-gravity power. Hand work is decent. On the ground a bit more than you'd like. Reasonable bend but not a speciality. Three-down rusher, which addresses a need in Detroit. Even to double up at the position.): https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2022-nfl-draft-grades-tracker-draft-analysis-for-every-second-round-selection/

SI (Grade - B-. Josh Paschal
DE | Kentucky: After drafting Aidan Hutchinson in Round 1, the Lions got another edge rusher with the intangibles and leadership that Dan Campbell will appreciate. Paschal is stout at the point of attack with his strength and violent hands. He’s more impactful as a run defender, but there is potential for him to develop more as a pass rusher for the Lions. While I like the player, this is earlier than I would have taken him, as he’s my 79th-ranked prospect.): https://www.si.com/nfl/draft-tracker
FTW (Paschal - The Lions’ trade up for Jameson Williams bit them here, as they had to settle for Paschal while players like Mafe, Ebiketie, and Ojabo were drafted just in front of them. Paschal lacks the upside of those guys, but he’s a strong defensive end who consistently put up numbers for the Wildcats and should fill out pass rushing rotations on Sundays for years to come. He’s got a big motor and grown man power and head coach Dan Campbell’s gonna love that. Grade: B-): https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-draft-tracker-grades-second-round-third-day-2-2022
Yahoo (Grade: B-. Eric Edholm's Commentary - The Lions add another high-motor, high-character edge here to pair with Aidan Hutchinson. Paschal was a cancer survivor and three-time captain. He was an inspirational force for the Wildcats, racking up tackles for losses, blocking kicks and bringing consistency every snap, even if his physical tools are ordinary.): https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/draft/
SN (Grade: C. The Lions make a questionable pick of a Day 3 prospect but at least he makes sense to support No. 2 overall pick Aidan Hutchinson in upgrading the edge. Paschal is a reliable rock of a pass rusher with some sturdiness against the run who could work to be more explosive.): https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-draft-grades-2022-live-picks-results/u3wjt59rjkmrzkhwc7cirouv
Walter football (Detroit Lions: Josh Paschal, DE, Kentucky - C Grade. I don't hate this pick, but I think it could've been better. The Lions already addressed their edge rush with Aidan Hutchinson, and I thought Josh Paschal would go toward the end of the second round, so I don't love this value. There were better players available who filled bigger needs.): https://walterfootball.com/nfldraftgrades.php
PFN (Round 2, Pick 46: Josh Paschal, EDGE, Kentucky - Paschal can rush from the outside or line up as far inside as 3-tech and still get home with pressure. He has great hands and a solid foundation but may struggle from a lack of pass-rush moves as he acclimates to the NFL speed. It’s a murky situation in Detroit along the edge with Hutchinson and Julian Okwara looking promising. There had to be more value elsewhere here for Detroit. PFF (46. DETROIT LIONS (VIA MIN): EDGE JOSHUA PASCHAL, KENTUCKY - Pick Grade: Good. Detroit is beefing up the defensive front with Aidan Hutchinson in Round 1 and now Paschal in Round 2. The Kentucky Wildcat was quietly one of the highest-graded edge defenders in the country this past season with a 90.0 overall mark. Paschal is a strong, explosive player who can play on the interior and the edge. He may be a tad stiff and can get out of control from time to time, but this is good value for an all-around solid player. 72% of PFF Users like this pick!): https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2022-nfl-draft-grades-73-day-2-picks-round-2-round-3
Analysis:
USA Today (46. Lions (from Vikings) – DE Josh Paschal, Kentucky: A three-time team captain who can move up and down a line that needs more bodies despite Thursday's acquisition of Aidan Hutchinson. Detroit's 30 sacks were the third-fewest in the NFL in 2021. A cancer survivor, Paschal should be another culture changer for a Detroit organization that appears pointed in the right direction.): https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/draft/2022/04/28/nfl-draft-tracker-2022-first-round-picks-live-analysis-news/7449308001/
ESPN (Pre-Draft Analysis: Paschal has a low center of gravity, and he anchors well at the point of attack. He locks out, locates the ball, gets off blocks and pursues tenaciously. His burst and active hands give interior offensive linemen problems when he kicks inside to rush the passer. Paschal was the only three-time full-season captain in school history. -- Steve Muench. Post-Draft Analysis - The Lions continue to add players who have been leaders at their college programs. Paschal can play the power defensive end role opposite Aidan Hutchinson and has some potential to bump inside on pass-rushing downs. He is versatile enough up front to be an excellent value at this pick. -- Matt Miller): https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft/rounds
ESPN Woodyard (Josh Paschal - My take: Detroit continues to build its defense after giving up 27.5 points per game last season, 31st in the league. The Lions desperately needed help rushing the passer after finishing 29th in pressure percentage and 30th in sacks last season. Paschal is a big body who can help after totaling 137 tackles in his college career. He was also the only three-time captain in school history at Kentucky, which says a lot about his character and leadership. What’s next: The Lions have a third-round pick at No. 97, where they can continue to add players with the talent and leadership traits that can help their rebuild. Detroit could go in a number of different ways, including linebacker, cornerback or safety.): https://www.espn.com/blog/detroit-lions/post/_/id/38504/detroit-lions-nfl-draft-picks-2022-analysis-for-every-selection
