2022 NFL Draft S Daxton Hill

Scouting Reports:

Articles:

TWENTYMAN: 10 prospects who make sense for Lions in first round (9. Safety Daxton Hill, Michigan: Hill was a jack-of-all-trades for the Wolverines' defense the last three years, but particularly this past season. Michigan listed Hill as a defensive back and not a safety for good reason. He played the slot, deep safety and came down and played in the box for the Wolverines. On top of all that position versatility, Hill is terrific in run support, which makes him one the best all-around defensive backs in this class. Some teams might view him as a safety, while others could see him playing cornerback.  He recorded 69 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and led Michigan in both passes defended (11) and interceptions (2) this past season. His ability to play a split safety role – which Detroit runs on defense – or come down and play in the slot will make him an attractive prospect for a lot of teams.) (4-26-22):  https://www.detroitlions.com/news/10-prospects-who-make-sense-for-lions-hutchinson-johnson-thibodeaux

2022 NFL Draft Week Rumors Monday (Michigan slot cornerback/safety Daxton Hill has been on the bubble of the first round throughout the draft process. Hill might slide to the second day, and a big reason for that would be poor interviews. Team sources from franchises that were excited about Hill said those conversations went so poorly they ruled Hill out. They worry about mental makeup issues and feel taking him in the early rounds is too risky.) (4-25-22):  https://walterfootball.com/nflhotpress/article/2022-NFL-Draft-Week-Rumors-Monday

2022 NFL Draft Position Rankings: Cornerbacks (7. DAXTON HILL, MICHIGAN (BIG BOARD RANK: 37):  Hill showed off his versatility by playing mainly slot for the Wolverines defense. Still, he'll be a deep safety in the NFL, and he possesses some of the class' best speed at the position.) (4-22-22):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-top-2022-nfl-draft-rankings-cornerbacks-derek-stingley-jr-kaiir-elam-ahmad-gardner-roger-mcreary

Monson: 2022 NFL Draft cornerback rankings (7. DAXTON HILL, MICHIGAN:  Hill and Baylor’s Jalen Pitre  split opinions in terms of where they will line up at the next level: Some analysts consider them cornerbacks, others safeties. To me, Hill can be a prototypical NFL slot corner. The Wolverine has good lateral quickness and instincts and is eager to get involved in the quick passing game and impact the run and screen game — an often forgotten aspect of playing in the slot. He spent 580 of his 832 snaps in the slot for Michigan in 2021.) (4-22-22):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2022-nfl-draft-cornerback-rankings-monson

2022 NFL draft: The top 11 safeties (5
Daxton Hill, Michigan (Height: 6’0 1/4″ (39th) Weight: 191 (5th), 40-Yard Dash: 4.38 seconds (95th), 10-Yard Split: 1.47 seconds (97th), Vertical Jump: 34 inches (28th), Broad Jump: 121 inches (53rd), 3-Cone Drill: 6.57 seconds (97th), 20-Yard Shuttle: 4.06 seconds (87th), Wingspan: 79 1/4 inches (92nd), Arm Length: 32 1/4 inches (71st), Hand Size: 9 1/2 inches (63rd)) Bio: Coming out of Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa (where he was born), Hill was anything but a secret. He was a five-star recruit as a safety and occasional receiver, and was the No. 1 safety prospect in the 2019 class, and the No. 1 prospect in his state overall. Hill committed to Michigan, then Alabama, then back to Michigan on signing day. A three-year starter for the Wolverines, Hill excelled under defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, who’s now the Ravens’ defensive coordinator. Another Ravens connection: Hill’s older brother Justice, a running back from Oklahoma State, was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 draft by Baltimore.  Over three seasons with the Wolverines, Hill played 311 snaps at free safety, 308 in the box, 906 in the slot, 35 at cornerback, and 33 at the defensive line.  Stat to Know: Sports Info Solutions defines its Hand-on-Ball Percentage metric as the “Percentage of plays where a defender got their “hand on the ball.” This includes breaking up or intercepting a pass as well as forcing or recovering a fumble.” Only Kyle Hamilton (1.9%) had a higher HOB rate among safeties last season than Hill’s 1.8%.  Strengths: Teams in need of a slot defender in the draft who can run in sub-packages right now would do well to consider Hill. He has the range to cover through the middle of the field, and the closing quickness to get to balls other defenders might not.  On this interception against Wisconsin, you can once again see the match qualities, closing speed and ball skills from the slot. Hill can both work the receiver’s route, and break off for the big play.  And here, it wasn’t Aidan Hutchinson or David Ojabo who was making Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett’s life miserable — it was Hill off the edge on a blitz. He’s excellent in this role.  And while he didn’t play the deep third a lot in Michigan’s defense, Hill certainly has the athletic profile to do that at the next level — especially two-deep.  Weaknesses: There are instances in which Hill, for all his coverage speed and quick-twitch skills, can lose to receivers in the recovery phase, and he doesn’t always have the last-second burst to make up for it. This appears to be more a matter of pre-snap positioning and post-snap understanding than any athletic issues. In other words, it’s coachable.  And let’s just say that Hill’s tackling won’t provide a lot of teach tape. He must improve his technique in this regard.  Conclusion: I would put Hill up there with Baylor’s Jalen Pitre as one of the two best slot defenders on this list — Hill will bring that value to his NFL team right away, and that extends to playing overhang roles in the deep slot. From there, it’s a decent transition to more of a interchangeable free safety role, which could make Hill a key cog in any defense — just as he was in college.  NFL Comparison: Jimmie Ward. Ward has been one of those underrated multi-position defensive backs ever since the 49ers took him with the 30th overall pick in the 2014 draft. But if you talk to his teammates, they’ll tell you that Ward is the guy who holds his defenses together with his acumen all over the field. Hill, who may turn out to be better than his college tape shows, may have the same transformative effect in the right home.) Lions draft picks: Ranking 5 best combinations for Detroit's two Round 1 selections (Combination 4 - No. 2: Kayvon Thibodeaux, Edge, Oregon.  No. 32: Daxton Hill, S, Michigan.  Kayvon Thibodeaux, for all the talk about his final season with the Ducks, feels like the type of pick people are overthinking. He'll instantly make someone's defensive line better, and the Lions have a defensive line that needs to be better. If the Jaguars land on Hutchinson or Walker, Thibodeaux would be a great pick for a defense that desperately needs some athleticism up front.  On the back end, Daxton Hill is rounding out a very good career with the Wolverines. He has the ranginess and versatility you want from an early round safety, and he's immensely talented in nickel coverage. Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn made his bones as the secondary coach of the Saints, and Hill would be a great project for him.) (4-14-22):  https://www.sportingnews.com/au/nfl/news/lions-draft-picks-ranking-5-combinations-detroit-round-1/acyxxrteujobzjszgqt33ymk

NFL Mock Draft Stock Watch: Which players are rising and falling in experts' eyes in 2022? (The first round picks whose stock dropped slightly (5) - Hill was a likely late first round pick who could still sneak into the final layers of Day 1, but renewed interest in fellow safeties like Lewis Cine and Jalen Pitre have dulled his luster.) Meet the Prospect: Daxton Hill (4-13-22):  https://www.detroitlions.com/news/meet-the-prospect-daxton-hill

Treash: A look at the former five-star recruits in the 2022 NFL Draft (S DAXTON HILL, MICHIGAN WOLVERINES (247 Composite Rating: 14th, Draft Projection: Round 1-2):  Hill has the athleticism, solid collegiate production and versatility that can be attractive to NFL teams. While he didn't stray too far from his role as a slot defender in college, he has the skill set to be used in several roles or even serve as a primary deep safety in the NFL. From 2020 to 2021, the 6-foot, 191-pounder produced a top-10 slot coverage grade among Power Five defensive backs.) 2022 NFL Draft preview: 5 safeties that could interest the Lions (3. Daxton Hill, Michigan (6-1, 191. 4.38 40-yard dash.):  Built to play free safety with size, speed and long arms. "Rare speed and explosiveness" is how NFL.com characterized what Hill brings to the position.  A three-year player, 33 career games with 23 starts. Posted 7.5 career tackles for loss and 20 passes defended with single-season highs of 4.5 and 11 in 2021-22. Some analysts project Hill as a potential cornerback.) Oliver Hodgkinson’s Weekly NFL Draft Scouting Notebook: Triumphant testers with translatable talent (Q: The safety class has some depth and high-end talent. But they all provide different skill sets. Jalen Pitre and Daxton Hill are more nickel safeties, Lewis Cine and Jaquan Brisker are more part of a traditional tandem. How do you see their value in the draft, and where do they get chosen? – Kevin Sayer.  You’ve hit the nail on the head with the depth. I have 20 safety prospects across my latest Top 300 Big Board, with a couple more who I intend to watch that could potentially sneak into the final edition. Like the wide receiver class, there’s a “pick your poison” approach to their rankings, with individual skill sets to meet every flavor.  Kyle Hamilton is not only my top-ranked safety but my No. 1 overall player. Then, the four players you asked about fall in line from 2-5. Lewis Cine is my second-ranked safety, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him come off the board midway through the first round. We talked about him on a recent PFN Premier NFL Draft Podcast. There are very few holes in his game. Daxton Hill is close behind, and I’d be willing to bet on him being selected in the 20s. All three carry a first-round grade from me.  Jaquan Brisker is a fringe first/early second-round pick, and I see Jalen Pitre as a mid-to-late second-rounder. There are plenty of teams with safety needs in the NFL Draft. In my eyes, the Dallas Cowboys have long been a favorite landing spot for Pitre. Meanwhile, I could imagine Brisker biting knee caps for Dan Campbell in Detroit.  While I agree that Hill and Pitre are likely viewed as nickel safeties, I think Hill in particular has a versatile athletic profile and skill set to contribute from any alignment at the next level. Taller and longer than Pitre, he’s got the speed, twitchiness, hip fluidity, and lateral agility to cover the length and breadth of the field.) (4-8-22):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/oliver-hodgkinson-weekly-nfl-draft-scouting-notebook-04222022/

Five prospects who should get Round 1 consideration (Daxton Hill, S, Michigan:  Hill was a five-star recruit out of high school who wavered between the Wolverines and Alabama. Throughout his collegiate career, the Oklahoma native was able to show his versatility covering the slot, dropping into zone coverage and playing downhill. His 4.38 seconds 40-yard dash was 13th best among all defenders at the NFL combine. Hill is slight of frame and did not test particularly well in the broad or vertical jump but his 20-yard shuttle and 3-cone drills were off the charts.) (4-8-22):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2022-nfl-draft-georgia-duo-among-prospects-who-will-receive-late-first-round-consideration/

Michigan 2022 NFL Draft Scouting Reports include Aidan Hutchinson, David Ojabo, Daxton Hill, and more (Daxton Hill, S - Positives: Athletic safety prospect with a complete game. Quick and fluid pedaling in reverse, smooth flipping his hips, and tracks the pass in the air. Possesses a burst to the ball and has a nice move to the throw. Quick to read and diagnose plays, shows speed laterally, and keeps the action in front of him. Breaks down well and uses his hands to protect himself. Squares into tackles and wraps up ball handlers. Takes good angles to the action and works hard to get involved.  Negatives: Doesn’t play to his 40 time and lacks a second gear, despite his Combine 40 time. Possesses a long, wiry build.  Analysis: Hill is an athletic safety who has shown consistent improvement on the field and increased his production every year. He possesses good upside and projects as a traditional free safety who can line up over the slot receiver.) (4-7-22):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/michigan-2022-nfl-draft-scouting-reports/

Top 10 Safeties in the 2022 NFL Draft: Kyle Hamilton, Daxton Hill, and Lewis Cine form the ‘Big Three’ (2. Daxton Hill, Michigan:  Slide Daxton Hill into the slot or free safety and reap the rewards. He can make up for mistakes from corners but won’t be much help in run fits. He closes ground with blink-and-you-miss-it speed and has the coverage ability to thrive in single or two-high shells. Hill’s skill set will be highly sought after in the 2022 NFL Draft, and he will be a key contributor from Day 1.) (4-7-22):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/top-safeties-2022-nfl-draft-kyle-hamilton-remains-the-top-of-the-class/

Lions 2022 NFL draft: A safety for every round (2nd round: Daxton Hill, Michigan - It might be a stretch for Hill to last to Detroit’s pick at No. 32, let alone No. 34 in the second round. He has the highest ceiling of any coverage-oriented safety in this class, and it’s a very good class too.  Hill will interest some teams as a slot cornerback, and his fluidity, explosiveness and instincts in coverage make him the best slot CB prospect in the draft as well. As a safety, he’s on the lighter side (191 pounds) but his athletic testing is outstanding.  There is room for growth in Hill’s route recognition and in-the-box run defense. Hill isn’t soft at all but he’s not physically imposing as a run stopper or tackler. His natural playmaking and range from a split-safety or single-high alignment are very desirable.  Georgia’s Lewis Cine and Baylor’s Jalen Pitre are also perfectly acceptable choices here. Like Hill, Pitre might be a better slot corner than safety in the NFL.) (4-3-22):   https://lionswire.usatoday.com/lists/lions-2022-nfl-draft-safety-prospect-for-every-round/

2022 NFL Draft: Ranking the top safeties in this year’s class (Tier 2 - Daxton Hill (Michigan), 6-foot-0, 191 pounds:  There is a lot of uncertainty out there regarding where Daxton Hill is best suited to play in the NFL. Some don’t even have him listed in their safety rankings and believe he will be a cornerback at the next level; others like him as a free safety or in a nickelback role. If you ask me, Hill is simply a phenomenal talent and it doesn’t matter where you put him, he’s going to succeed.  At the combine, Hill tested extremely well with his speed and agility numbers, but just “okay” during explosion drills. The latter was a bit surprising, but that doesn’t change him being an elite athlete.  For the Lions, I really like the idea of Hill in the slot or as a box safety. His speed and range also give the team the ability to switch up their safeties and give offenses some different looks. Hill is likely to go in the late-first or early-second round, so the 32nd and 34th overall pick would likely be in play here.  Round grade: 1st-2nd round) (3-31-22):   https://www.prideofdetroit.com/platform/amp/2022/3/31/22999784/2022-nfl-draft-ranking-the-top-safeties-in-this-years-class

Michigan Pro Day 2022: Date, prospects, rumors, and more (Daxton Hill, S - Daxton Hill‘s NFL Combine performance is certainly a topic of discussion. Many expected lights-out testing from the Michigan safety. He wasn’t bad, by any stretch. At 6’0″, 191 pounds, a 4.38 40-yard dash is stellar, and his 6.57 three-cone was absurd, emblematic of his cornerback-like agility and fluidity. But his explosiveness numbers — while solid — weren’t quite at the level expected, especially his 33.5-inch vertical.  There’s a chance Hill looks to improve that at his pro day. But it doesn’t change the tape. He has elite burst and closing speed either way. That easy athleticism will be on display during drills.) (3-17-22):   https://www.profootballnetwork.com/michigan-pro-day-2022-date-prospects-rumors-more/

2022 NFL Combine results: 8 standouts from the safety group (Dax Hill (Michigan, 6-foot-0 1⁄4, 191) remains the second-best safety on my Lions' big board and like Cine, he ran a sub-4.4 40-yard dash (4.38 seconds). He was fluid in drills, moved quickly laterally, showed corner-level backpedal, and consistently high-pointed the ball, showing off his ball skills. He did try guessing the coach's directions in drills early, but he settled in and started trusting his skill set.) (3-7-23):   https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2022/3/7/22964449/2022-nfl-combine-results-8-standouts-from-the-safety-group

All-Combine Team: Who crushed it at each position? (Dax Hill
Michigan (Best team fits: Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions.):  The tape translated to the combine. Hill was fluid and in control throughout his workout, making the drills look easy and displaying the same ball skills that stood out on his game film. The safety was explosive out of his breaks, especially in the backpedal-and-90-degree-break drill, and kept his feet underneath him, making every step count in deeper drops and completing catches without difficulty. Add in his Next Gen Stats overall draft score of 88 -- a number boosted by a 4.38 40-yard dash and 6.57 three-cone drill -- and you have a highly enticing safety prospect.) The 2022 NFL combine is done. What’s being said nationally after defensive backs close the show? (Michigan’s Dax Hill, another possible target for Pick 32 or 34, wasn’t far behind in the 40-yard dash (4.41 seconds). NFL Network compared Hill’s physical traits and performance to Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.) (3-6-22):   https://www.mlive.com/lions/2022/03/the-2022-nfl-combine-is-done-whats-being-said-nationally-after-defensive-backs-close-the-show.html

2022 NFL Scouting Combine Day 4 takeaways: Lewis Cine makes claim to be first-round pick, cornerbacks cruise (Cine, other safeties respond to criticism in a big way - Notre Dame's Kyle Hamilton has been regarded as the top safety in the class, but there were concerns about the talent that would be available at that position beyond him. A few prospects responded to that criticism in a big way. Michigan's Daxton Hill ran a 4.43 seconds 40-yard dash as well. A former 5-star recruit, Hill adds depth to the top end of this safety class.) (3-6-22):   https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2022-nfl-scouting-combine-day-4-takeaways-lewis-cine-makes-claim-to-be-first-round-pick-cornerbacks-cruise/live/

2022 NFL Combine Stock Report - Defensive Backs (Down -  Daxton Hill, S, Michigan:  Daxton Hill posted a 4.38 40-yard dash, which impressed some. However, as one of the lighter safeties, Hill was expected to have a strong time. Hill's other testing numbers were poor. He posted a 10-1 broad jump and a 33.5-inch vertical, which was the second-worst figure among players at his position. There might be some concern about a lack of explosion.) (3-6-22):   https://walterfootball.com/combine2022stockDB.php

Prospects with the most to gain at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine for each position (Safety: DAXTON HILL, MICHIGAN - Hill is very much a modern safety. He has the kind of range and man coverage ability that plays in the wave of two-high defenses that take safeties out of run fits. Hill looks poised to test exceedingly well across the board. If he does so head and shoulders above the rest of the safeties after Notre Dame’s Kyle Hamilton, he can lock himself in as the best option for those types of defenses.) (3-3-22):     https://www.pff.com/news/draft-nfl-scouting-combine-prospects-most-to-gain-risers-2022

Combine preview: 12 safeties the Lions should be watching (Dax Hill, Michigan, 6-foot-0, 192 - Suggested by Jeremy.  A hybrid defensive back, Hill can play single-high, split zone, in the slot, and at outside corner. He is a high-level athlete who ran in the 4.3s in high school, and he should be able to replicate similar numbers in the 40-yard-dash. Hill should also be able to show solid hip flexion in his transitions, matching the smoothness of a corner. The Combine should be good to him.) (3-2-22):   https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2022/3/2/22952056/2022-nfl-combine-preview-12-safeties-detroit-lions

Top 2022 NFL Draft prospects to watch at the NFL Combine (Daxton Hill is an athletic safety with slot versatility, which should be easy to see at the Combine.) (3-1-22):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/top-2022-nfl-draft-prospects-to-watch-at-the-nfl-combine/

2022 NFL combine: Could safety Kyle Hamilton or the strong cornerback class entice the Detroit Lions? (S Daxton Hill (Michigan): Daxton Hill was a five-star recruit and the top safety in his class before delivering three solid seasons in Ann Arbor. Hill is an impressive athlete with more than enough speed to stick in coverage and cover ground at the next level. He played the majority of his snaps from the slot this past year. Hill moved around a little more between the slot and safety before that. He had 69 tackles, 4.5 for loss with two interceptions and eight pass deflections in 2021.) (2-26-22):   https://www.mlive.com/lions/2022/02/2022-nfl-combine-could-safety-kyle-hamilton-or-the-strong-cornerback-class-entice-the-detroit-lions.html

2022 Combine preview: Safety (2. Dax Hill, Michigan, 6-0, 192:  Hill is also a terrific athlete, though he doesn't possess the frame and length Hamilton does. Hill does have speed and position versatility, however. He looks comfortable playing up in the box, but is also one of the better cover safeties in this class. He could play both safety and nickel corner at the next level.) (2-23-22):   https://www.detroitlions.com/news/2022-combine-preview-safety-hamilton-hill-cine

Lions 2022 Combine Preview: Safeties (Daxton Hill, Michigan:  It will be interesting to see where Hill weighs in at the combine. Listed at 192 pounds, he is on the leaner side of the spectrum. Despite his slender build, he still isn’t afraid to throw his weight around.  In 2021, Hill was predominantly a slot corner. However, Hill still saw some looks as a free safety, and moved around quite a bit.  At the next level, he projects more as a deep safety, given his range. Still, that wouldn’t preclude him from manning up receivers in the slot, if called upon to do so at the next level.) (2-23-22):   https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/combine-preview-six-safeties-lions-should-scout

2022 NFL Draft Stock - Pre-All-Star Games II (Up - Daxton Hill, CB/S, Michigan:  The top-three cornerbacks for the 2022 NFL Draft are Derek Stingley, Ahmad Gardner and Trent McDuffie, but after them, Hill could be the next defensive back drafted. Hill is hybrid safety/cornerback who is at his best when playing nickel corner. NFL teams play nickel 70 percent or more of defensive snaps and sometimes have games where they only play nickel. Hence, Hill would be a starter as the third corner who also can contribute some play at safety. His versatility and the passing-driven nature of the modern league gives Hill a shot at being selected in the back half of the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.) (1-25-22):   https://walterfootball.com/draft2022stock_21.php

Teams See Safety Talent on Day 2 of 2022 NFL Draft (NFL team sources say there are some worthy prospects for the second day of the 2022 NFL Draft.  Prospects who were named as quality second- or third-round picks were Michigan's Daxton Hill, Georgia's Lewis Cine, Penn State's Jaquan Brisker and Cincinnati's Bryan Cook. Some NFL teams view Hill as a nickel corner primarily, but would line him up at safety in the base set.  While the 2022 NFL Draft may not have many safeties selected on the opening night of the 2022 NFL Draft, team sources believe these prospects could form a solid ground group of safeties for Day 2.) 10 bowl game prospects to watch this week (10. Safety Daxton Hill, Michigan
Capital One Orange Bowl (Georgia vs. Michigan), Fri., Dec. 31:  With Tracy Walker set to become a free agent this offseason, the Lions might be in the market to add a safety this offseason. Notre Dame's Kyle Hamilton (opted out of Fiesta Bowl) is the best safety in the class, but Hill is right up there. Hill is a safety with cornerback cover skills possessing terrific size and speed traits. He notched 65 total tackles (39 solo) with 4.5 tackles for loss with two interceptions and seven passes defended so far in 13 contests.) PFN’s All-Big Ten Football Team Honors for the 2021 college football season (First-Team All-Big Ten Defense - Daxton Hill, Michigan) (12-7-21):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/all-big-ten-football-team-honors-for-the-2021-college-football-season/

NFL Draft Prospects to Watch in Big Ten Championship Game (Daxton Hill, S, Michigan:  Hill is considered among the best secondary players available in the upcoming draft. He has good range and speed, and is physical enough to mix it up in the run game. The Wolverines will need this against Iowa, as Hawkeyes running back Tyler Goodson is a tough runner.  The Tulsa, Okla., native was a first-team All-Big Ten selection. He is on the fringe of being a first-round selection at this moment, but is athletic enough to impress at the NFL combine. He’ll be a key player for the Wolverines Saturday, as his ability to stop the run and cover one-on-one can help push Michigan over the edge.) (12-4-21):  https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/nfl-draft-prospects-big-ten-championship

Underrated prospects to watch on championship weekend (Michigan DB Daxton Hill: It's difficult to find a more twitched-up, clean athlete than Hill at the defensive back position in this class. The former five-star recruit and No. 1 safety recruit in the country has slowly but surely met the lofty expectations that came with him to Ann Arbor years ago. He's spent time at safety but has flourished his season in the nickel corner gig, setting career highs in tackles, interceptions and pass breakups. He could sneak into Round 1 but feels like a lock for the second round.) 5 Draft Prospects to Watch in Ohio State-Michigan Game (Michigan DB Daxton Hill:  The 6-foot, 192-pounder has had a lot of hype since joining the Wolverines as a freshman back in 2019.  Teams don't always throw his way because of his status as a top-flight corner. However, he's still managed to amass two interceptions and seven pass breakups in 2021. Additionally, he's posted 3.5 tackles for loss, as well as a fumble recovery which came in Michigan's defeat of the Nittany Lions Nov. 13.  The Lions, even while equipped with some young corners, wouldn't do themselves any harm by adding Hill via the 2022 NFL Draft.) 10 NFL draft prospects for the Lions to watch on CFB rivalry weekend (Michigan S Daxton Hill:  To call Hill just a safety does him a disservice. He’s very good in coverage in the slot, but he can also crash inside the box as a hybrid LB. Don’t expect much of the latter in the NFL at just 190 pounds, but like Budda Baker for the Cardinals, don’t sell him short because he’s lacking size. Exceptional speed and body control at full speed make Hill a definite candidate for the Lions’ second first-round pick…if he’s still on the board.) Detroit Lions 2022 draft watch: 17 top-100 prospects will battle today (Hill is a new-aged hybrid defensive back, capable of lining up in single-high, split zone, in the slot, and on the outside at corner. He has legit sub-4.4 speed and isn’t afraid to stick his nose into the mix in run defense. Don’t be surprised if he is the second safety off the board after Notre Dame’s Kyle Hamilton.) 2022 NFL Draft Prospects: Week 13 college football matchups to watch (Michigan nickel back Daxton Hill, safety Brad Hawkins, and corner Vincent Gray are all Day 3 picks. The Wolverine defenders are talent-deficient compared to their opponents and must prove they can run and cover both Olave and Wilson.) Detroit Lions 2022 draft watch: 20 prospects from Michigan at Michigan State (Daxton Hill, Safety, Michigan (Junior) (6-foot-0, 192 pounds, Projection: Top-50):  I don’t want to spend too much time on Hill because I have already profiled him twice this season, but that speaks to how well I believe he would fit into the Lions scheme. Here is was what I said about him when he was on my watchlist in early September:  Hill is a pure free safety with the coverage skills to play in the slot and potentially at outside corner. Not only does Hill possess 4.3-second speed, but he is a sure tackler who is comfortable operating in space. His ability to be a hybrid player would be awfully appealing for Lions’ defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who has a history of developing position versatile defensive backs.  Top 50 feels right for him right now, but he has the type of athletic skill set that often gets drafted in the first round.) Detroit Lions 2022 draft watch: 10 prospects to watch this Saturday (Daxton Hill, Safety, Michigan (Junior).  Hill was on my watchlist in early September and I had this to say about him.  "Hill is a pure free safety with the coverage skills to play in the slot and potentially at outside corner. Not only does Hill possess 4.3-second speed, but he is a sure tackler who is comfortable operating in space. His ability to be a hybrid player would be awfully appealing for Lions’ defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who has a history of developing position versatile defensive backs."  Hill’s stock has continued to climb throughout the season and he has surely cemented himself among the top-50 players in the draft class—if he declares early.) Detroit Lions 2022 draft watch: 10 prospects to watch this Saturday (Daxton Hill, S, Michigan (Jr)
vs Washington, 8:00 p.m. ET, on ABC:  Hill (6-foot-0, 195 pounds) is a pure free safety with the coverage skills to play in the slot and potentially at outside corner. Not only does Hill possess 4.3-second speed, but he is a sure tackler who is comfortable operating in space. His ability to be a hybrid player would be awfully appealing for Lions’ defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who has a history of developing position versatile defensive backs.  Keep an eye on Hill potentially matching up against Washington’s TE Cade Otten, a potentially top-5 tight end in this class.) 2022 NFL Draft: OSU WR duo sticks out in loaded Big Ten (Daxton Hill can line up at safety or over the slot. He is not afraid to mix it up and breaks quickly.) College Football Breakouts: 11 prospects who could be surprise sleepers in 2021 (Daxton Hill, S, Michigan:  Daxton Hill is a former five-star recruit who parlayed his incredible high school career into an impressive freshman campaign for Michigan in 2019. The No. 1 safety of the 2019 recruiting class was named the Wolverines’ Defensive Rookie of the Year. However, his opportunity to build on that as a sophomore was derailed by the entropy of last year’s college football season.  As a result, Hill is poised to be one of the breakouts of the 2021 college football season. The Michigan safety has ideal size, speed, and playmaking skills to be disruptive at the heart of Michigan’s secondary. Hill has averaged 3.5 pass deflections and 1 interception in each of his two seasons to date.)
