2022 NFL Draft WR Skyy Moore

Scouting Reports:

Articles:

NFL Draft Comps: Prospect comparisons for Derek Stingley Jr., Chris Olave, and others (Skyy Moore = Golden Tate:  He isn’t the first to talk about Skyy Moore and Golden Tate, but we’ll give the assist here to Zach Young (@zyoung9) on Twitter for that reply asking for NFL Draft comps.  Funny enough that Golden Tate is the first name listed as a Relative Athletic Score comparison for Moore. Everything they do athletically is similar. They’re less than an inch apart and separated by five pounds. Their 40-yard dash times have a difference of 0.01 of a second. Their jumps were almost identical, and they both scored poorly in agility drills.  And all of that magically translated to the field, too. Now, their poor testing agility doesn’t. Moore moves just as well laterally as Tate did throughout his career. Undersized with somewhat stocky frames, they’re both physical and elusive after the catch.) 2022 NFL Draft: PFF Big Board vs. Media Consensus Board (WR SKYY MOORE, WESTERN MICHIGAN (PFF Rank: 22, Consensus Rank: 57):  The FBS leader in broken tackles at the receiver position last year (26), Moore is dynamic and ascending. His height (a shade under 5-foot-10) and competition level will scare some off, but he’s got long arms (31 inches), big hands (10.25 inches) and good size (195 pounds) to make up for it. He’s also only started playing receiver when he got to Western Michigan, as he was recruited to play cornerback.) NFL Draft prospects 2022: The top 10 wide receivers (9. Skyy Moore, Western Michigan (5-10, 195 pounds):  This Moore is a hybrid of Elijah and Rondale from last year's draft as Skyy can fly well out of the slot. He is be the best pure inside receiver in this class with his quickness and necessary toughness. He's a lot different from past WMU products Greg Jennings and Corey Davis and should land between them somewhere in the second round.) (4-22-22):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-draft-2022-prospects-wide-receivers-rankings/eagoszlyovt8bckaixaqd2qz

2022 NFL Draft Position Rankings: Wide Receivers (5. SKYY MOORE, WESTERN MICHIGAN (BIG BOARD RANK: 22):  Moore has the elite shiftiness that plays so well at the receiver position. Whether it's shaking press coverage or breaking an FBS-high 26 tackles last year, Moore will make defenders miss with ease.) 4 prospects who may not go in Round 1, but SHOULD (Marc Ross: I've been saying for months now that Skyy Moore is my favorite player in this year's draft. While other big-school wideouts are locks to go in Round 1 -- guys like Jameson Williams, Drake London, Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave -- Moore was an under-the-radar prospect at the start of the pre-draft process. He can match any of those aforementioned guys in terms of pure production, playmaking, football intelligence and skills. The versatile receiver has the talent and confidence to be a winning starter no matter where he is drafted.  James Jones: Moore caught everyone's attention with his strong combine performance. In reality, the Western Michigan wideout displayed those explosive skills each time he stepped on the field. He's a crisp route runner who will thrive out of the slot or outside at the next level. His size (5-10, 195) will likely keep him out of Round 1, but we've seen plenty of smaller receivers have great NFL careers. The teams that pass on Moore early will be wishing they hadn't this coming fall.) (4-19-22):  https://www.nfl.com/news/2022-nfl-draft-which-prospect-might-not-be-a-first-round-pick-but-should-be

NFL Draft: Eight bold observations about 2022 class (Skyy Moore is a first-round receiver - Moore is universally liked in the scouting community. I'm certainly not the only analyst raving about his game. But it feels like, despite the widespread adulation, he's bound for the second round. Why? Because he's 5-foot-10? He's an inch shorter than Jahan Dotson, who's often mocked in Round 1, but has nearly 20 pounds on him.  Moore crushes the hopes and dreams of cornerbacks off the line of scrimmage, he runs sharp routes, he's a speedster with an enormous catch radius -- the hands over 10 inches help -- and he is a tackle-breaking machine with the ball in his hands. Take a deep breath, say it with me: "Skyy Moore is a first-round receiver.") 2022 NFL Draft wide receiver rankings: Another stacked class of pass catching talent (7. Skyy Moore, Western Michigan:  Moore was great as a true freshman, quiet in the MAC’s COVID-addled 2020, and exceptional in a 95-catch, 10 touchdown 2021. His size (5-foot-10, 195 pounds) likely limits him to the slot in the NFL, but he can be productive there. He has an innate ability to finish catches through contact that could make him some quarterback’s first option on third down.  Moore is a crisp route runner who adjusts well to the ball in the air. He may not separate against a step up in coverage on Sundays, but he can be the type of player who bails his QB out when asked.) (4-13-22):  https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-draft-2022-wide-receiver-rankings-garrett-wilson-drake-london

NFL Draft News and Rumors: Travon Walker, Kyle Hamilton, and others (While he’s been mocked in the top 32 by some, no team I’ve spoken with has given Christian Watson of North Dakota State a first-round grade. Most believe he belongs in the middle of Round 2. Some teams have Skyy Moore of Western Michigan graded higher than Watson.) 2022 NFL Draft preview: 5 wide receivers that could interest the Lions (Sleeper: Skyy Moore, Western Michigan (5-10, 195, 4.41 40-yard dash.):  To be as productive as Moore was for three seasons in Kalamazoo at his size says a lot about his natural ability. He tied for ninth in the FBS with 95 receptions this past season for 1,292 yards (13.6 average) with 10 touchdowns in 12 starts. He's drawn some comparisons to Antonio Brown when he was coming out of Central Michigan.) 2022 NFL Draft: Wide receiver prospect superlatives (BEST RELEASES: SKYY MOORE, WESTERN MICHIGAN - Yes, it was a low level of competition. But, on 146 snaps against press coverage last season, Moore never got “got.” That includes matchups against Michigan and Pittsburgh, as well. His suddenness combined with a running back-esque build will make him a handful for whoever he’s matched up with at the next level.) (4-8-22):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2022-nfl-draft-wide-receiver-prospect-superlatives

Monson: 2022 NFL Draft Wide Receiver Rankings (6. SKYY MOORE, WESTERN MICHIGAN:  Few receivers have a higher floor than Skyy Moore, whose chance of being a productive part of an NFL offense are extremely good. The only question is how high is his ceiling and whether he has the potential to be special, not just a solid contributor. Moore knows how to get open and showed at the Combine he is a better athlete than many expected. Moore has real toughness, breaking 26 tackles this past season for Western Michigan. ) (4-8-22):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2022-nfl-draft-wide-receiver-rankings-monson

2022 NFL Draft: Five players who could be surprising first-round selections (WR SKYY MOORE, WESTERN MICHIGAN:  The 5-foot-10, 195-pound wide receiver may be on the shorter side, but he’s not small. Moore also measured in with bigger hands (10.25 inches) than any wide receiver in attendance at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine.  Moore’s “where he wins” section from lead draft analyst Mike Renner in the PFF Draft Guide reads: “In a class with some seriously shifty wideouts, Moore would be my bet to win if they all played tag. He’s not only shifty, but he’s also so strong he’s unaffected by an outstretched arm.”  That’s reflected in his FBS-high 26 missed tackles forced after the catch in 2021. You can line him up in the slot or on the outside, and he can contribute immediately as an after-the-catch weapon.  Moore is worth a late first-round selection, especially if there’s a run on wideouts before receiver-needy teams such as the Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions pick late in Round 1.) (4-7-22):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2022-nfl-draft-five-players-surprising-first-round-selections

2022 NFL draft: The top 16 receivers (8
Skyy Moore, Western Michigan (Height: 5’10” (14th) Weight: 195 (36th), 40-Yard Dash: 4.41 seconds (81st), Vertical Jump: 35 inches (37th), Broad Jump: 10’5″ (76th), 3-Cone Drill: 7.13 seconds (19th), 20-Yard Shuttle: 4.32 seconds (32nd)):   Bio: Skyy Moore graded as a three-star prospect out of Shady Side Academy in the Pittsburgh area, and was recruited as a cornerback by a few different schools, including Robert Morris and Rice. He signed with Western Michigan, and moved to wide receiver despite playing quarterback on offense in high school.  Moore was an immediate contributor for the Broncos, starting 12 games as a true freshman in 2019. During that season Moore caught 53 passes for 802 yards and three scores. He played in five games in the shortened 2020 season, catching 25 passes for 388 yards and three touchdowns.  He put up big numbers this past season, catching 95 passes for 1,292 yards and ten touchdowns.  Stat to Know: Moore is a weapon after the catch. Pro Football Focus charted him with 26 missed tackles forced this past season, tops among wide receivers.  Strengths: Moore walks into an NFL locker room as a Day One option as a slot receiver. But there is much more to his game than just a player that needs a two-way go to get separation. Moore can play on the boundary, and can play very well against press-aligned defenders. With shifty footwork off the line and a violent array of hand swipes, he can beat jams and get into his routes quickly off the line of scrimmage. Studying him I saw 24 different reps against press-aligned defenders in his games against Michigan and Pittsburgh, the toughest competition he faced this past season.  Against Pittsburgh, he caught 11 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.  This play against Northern Illinois is a prime example of how he can beat a defender off the line and establish leverage early in the down.  We will get to his player comparison in a moment, but this is the play that caused me to write down that comparison next to Moore’s name.  Even the body movement after the catch is reminiscent of this former NFL player.  But despite offering a floor as a starting slot receiver, thanks to his ability to beat press-aligned defenders Moore brings versatility to the table. Western Michigan used him along the boundary, as he saw over 500 snaps on the outside, and around 250 from the slot. Teams can use him as an outside receiver in packages, and he might have a role as a Z receiver in the NFL instead of a pure slot option.  Weaknesses: The bulk of Moore’s production came in the short- and intermediate-areas of the field. He separates quickly in the down and win with both his change-of-direction skills and his violent hand game. That helps him on routes underneath, but he has not fully formed a vertical package. Now, the team that drafts him might be find with what he offers on Day One underneath, but those looking for a vertical threat out of the slot — akin to Christian Kirk — might need some patience.  While he is a physical player, he did lose at the catch point to bigger defenders. That is something that will not ease up on Sundays. Plus, he’ll be facing a much different level of competition than he saw playing on Saturdays. While he put up big numbers against Pittsburgh, Michigan held him to just two receptions. Still, he did his part, and was getting separation on plays like this but never saw the ball.  Conclusion: Moore’s versatility, with the ability to play in the slot immediately while having the skill-set to play on the boundary, should make him an appealing option for NFL teams. Offenses that use receivers in interchangeable ways — such as what Josh McDaniels did in New England for years — should covet what Moore offers both outside and in the slot.  Comparison: The Julian Edelman comparisons write themselves. I know I used that last year with Amon-Ra St. Brown, but on that second clip above he looks exactly like him.) The most underrated players in the 2022 NFL Draft: Kenneth Walker III, George Karlaftis and more (WR SKYY MOORE, WESTERN MICHIGAN:  Despite his season-ending ACL injury, USC's Drake London will likely be the first receiver off the board and could be a top-10 selection. Western Michigan’s Skyy Moore earned the same 91.8 PFF receiving grade and an even better overall grade this past season.  Moore racked up 1,291 yards and 10 touchdown receptions, averaging 3.40 yards per route run, and he was another player who answered any potential athleticism concerns with an impressive performance at the combine.   The 5-foot-10, 195-pound pass-catcher ran a 4.41-second 40-yard dash and put up solid numbers across the board. His 10-yard split was in the 99th percentile and matched the kind of quickness he consistently showed on tape. The NFL chases “special” wide receiver prospects, but some of the best receivers in the game don't have cheat-code type size, speed or explosiveness. Instead, they are simply peerless craftsmen at the position. That’s what Moore can bring to the table, but evaluators seem to be overlooking him so far because of that focus on measurables.)(3-31-22):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-most-underrated-players-2022-nfl-draft

2022 NFL Draft: Day 2 prospects who could pay off big, including Skyy Moore and Calvin Austin III (WR SKYY MOORE, WESTERN MICHIGAN BRONCOS (PFF Big Board Rank: 33):  The highest-graded wide receiver of the 2021 college football season wasn’t any of the first-round prospects — it was Western Michigan's Skyy Moore.  The 5-foot-10, 195-pound receiver's 26 broken tackles after the catch tied for the most among wide receivers in 2021, and he ranked in the 95th percentile in separation percentage. Despite his smaller stature, Moore had no issue handling press coverage on the outside, ranking top-five in yards per route run on those reps last season at 3.58.  The cherry on top is his strong hands — the Western Michigan pass-catcher checked in with the largest hands of anyone at the Combine (10.25 inches) and dropped just three of his 125 targets in 2021 while catching eight of his 13 contested opportunities.) 2022 NFL Draft Stock - Post-Combine II (Down - Skyy Moore, WR, Western Michigan:  Some draft analysts have been bullish on Moore being a second-round pick, but in speaking to multiple team sources, some of them see Moore in the third round and some a little lower. The 2022 NFL Draft is very deep at receiver as well, which could further hurt Moore's chances of going in Round 2. A number of team sources are projecting Moore to be a third-round or early fourth-round pick.) (3-22-22):  https://walterfootball.com/draft2022stock_27.php

2022 NFL Draft: Ranking the top 17 WRs in this year’s class (Skyy Moore (Western Michigan), 5-foot-10, 195 pounds:  Moore could end up being the best pure slot guy from this draft class. He’s got elite quickness and is the type that can make you miss in a phone booth. He has a shot at making it work on the outside with his jacked-up physique and footwork, but some teams will likely see him limited to playing in the slot.  Round grade: 2nd-3rd round) (3-17-22):   https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2022/3/17/22961513/2022-nfl-draft-ranking-top-wide-receivers-tiers

NFL Pro Day News and Rumors: Texans and Patriots eyeing Kaleb Eleby-Skyy Moore connection? (Eleby, who did not run the 40-yard dash at the Combine, timed just under 4.9 seconds today. He then tossed 58 passes during position drills and looked good throughout, showing the ability to make all the throws. As someone on hand told me, “The connection between Eleby and Moore is sweet.” Moore stood on his 40 time from the Combine but was smooth catching passes. The Houston Texans and New England Patriots had their quarterback coaches on hand.) All-Combine Team: Who crushed it at each position? (Skyy Moore
Western Michigan (Best team fits: New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons, Houston Texans, Detroit Lions.):  Moore was a stud in the Mid-American Conference, but the NFL -- and the combine -- is not mid-major football. No matter for Moore, who was remarkably impressive from start to finish in Indy. Moore was steady and smooth throughout the on-field drills, running every route without any noticeable hitches and only encountering one hiccup when he broke down in a route a step early. He still ended up adjusting in time to make the catch. Moore wasn't a name on everyone's radar, but after Thursday night, he seems like a second-round lock who should be able to make an immediate impact.) 2022 NFL Scouting Combine Winners and Losers by the Numbers: Offensive Positions (PFF favorite Skyy Moore comes out the combine with the best WAR percentile and the third-best draft position percentile. NFL draft: Winners and losers from the 2022 NFL scouting combine (Western Michigan WR Skyy Moore:  After this weekend, Moore has moved into the Round 2 discussion — and perhaps the top 50 overall. There was even more buzz for him behind the scenes than expected, as Moore ran a nice 40 (4.41) and was as adept as almost any receiver adjusting to off-target passes. More than anything, Moore's ball-tracking ability looked natural and unusually good.  Even with a small frame and some so-so testing numbers (namely a 7.13-second 3-cone drill), we feel comfortable calling him a winner this weekend. Some talent evaluators we spoke with like him better as a prospect than his former college teammate, D'Wayne Eskridge, a Seattle Seahawks second-rounder last year.) 10 2022 NFL Draft Crushes (Skyy Moore, WR, Western Michigan:  Another small-school receiver, Moore was always impressive during his time with the Broncos. He was often the go-to target of fellow draft prospect Kaleb Eleby, in a Western Michigan offense that was explosive but inconsistent.  Moore is blazing fast, and creates separation easily. He showed this speed with a 4.41 showing in the 40.  He’s 5-foot-10, so his size may not be ideal when it comes to the Lions already having a sub-6-foot receiver in Amon-Ra St. Brown.  However, Lions head coach Dan Campbell’s creativity may be an asset here. After taking over the play-calling duties, Campbell found interesting and unique ways to get speedster Kalif Raymond the ball.  If the Lions do take Moore, expect Campbell to do more of the same with the WMU product.) 2022 NFL Combine results: 15 standouts from the wide receiver group (Garrett Wilson (Ohio State), Treylon Burks (Arkansas), and Jahan Dotson (Penn State) all left Indianapolis having solidified their stock. Pretty much all their testing numbers were on par with expectations, and each looked strong in on-field drills. All three have a legitimate shot of being first-round picks, while Wilson and Burks are likely battling to see who can be the first receiver selected.) Winners and losers from Day 1 of scouting combine drills (Winner: Skyy Moore, WR, Western Michigan:  Moore’s name has shown up more and more as a potential second-day pick, which means that if it’s public now, it’s been in NFL facilities for a while now. His 4.41 40-yard dash at 5-foor-10 and 195 pounds helps, as does his work in the rest of the drills.  What makes Moore interesting is that it’s not the athleticism that shows up first on tape — it’s his toughness over the middle and after the catch. That’s what will separate him in the minds of NFL shot-callers.) (3-4-22):   https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/lists/winners-and-losers-scouting-combine/

Receiver standouts from the first day of scouting combine drills (Skyy Moore, Western Michigan:  If you’re in the market for a receiver who gets off the line with quickness, sinks into his routes, and has no fear when it’s time to face converging cornerbacks and safeties, Moore could be your man. The official 4.41 40-yard dash he ran showed the speed part, but the tape shows the rest — and it all comes together for a guy whose name you might hear on draft day (perhaps early in the second day) before you may expect.) l(3-4-22):   https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/lists/2022-scouting-combine-nfl-draft-chris-olave-skyy-moore/

Winners, losers from Combine Day 1: QB impresses (Skyy Moore
Western Michigan · WR:  Moore was consistently explosive during the field drills on Thursday. His shorter routes were crisp, and in the one instance when Moore stumbled, he managed to concentrate on the ball to bring it in. He caught the ball cleanly and brought to mind memories of MLB great Willie Mays when grabbing passes over his head. Moore's 4.41-second 40-yard dash is a nice time for a 195-pound receiver. His performance could land him in the top 100.) (3-4-22):   https://www.nfl.com/news/2022-nfl-scouting-combine-winners-and-losers-day-1-chris-olave-malik-willis-impr

2022 NFL Combine Stock Report - Wide Receivers (Up - Skyy Moore, WR, Western Michigan:  Skyy Moore put together some great tape, and now his workout numbers are able to match it. NFL Scouting Combine 2022 tracker: Measurements, best individual performances from Indianapolis (Skyy Moore, Christian Watson are no longer secrets - Skyy Moore out of Western Michigan raised eyebrows Thursday. That wasn't all, as Moore looked extraordinarily smooth running the gauntlet, and had a couple of impressive routes downfield. He's poised to move up draft boards.) Combine participants to watch for this week in Indianapolis (Skyy Moore, WR, Western Michigan:  One of the more intriguing wide receiver options is Skyy Moore out of Western Michigan. Moore put up huge numbers for the Broncos this past season, catching 95 passes for 1,292 yards and ten touchdowns. Just a redshirt sophomore, Moore made the decision to enter the NFL draft back in January, and now has an invitation to the Combine to show for it.  Moore is a fascinating study on film. Many will look at him from a size standpoint and have him pegged as a pure slot receiver in the NFL, but the Broncos aligned him all over the field, and was set up on the boundary for almost 70% of his snaps for Western Michigan this past season, according to charting data.  As such, he has an impressive release package, including a hand swipe/chop move to beat press-aligned defenders at the snap. His experience against press, even coming out of the MAC, will have some teams intrigued. It is hard to get past a potential comparison to Julian Edelman, and view Moore as a receiver who can play out of the slot, but is not a slot-exclusive receiver. How he tests in Indianapolis will also start to fill out the picture of how he is viewed by teams, and how he can be used at the next level.)
