All have first-round worthy qualities and long-term starting potential, no doubt about it. All also have at least one legitimate drawback that might make an OT-needy team have real pause at taking them over the others. For Mauigoa, it’s arm length and run game range. Freeling is green and shows some balance issues. Fano has arm length and power concerns. Proctor has battled weight issues and has some eye-popping whiffs. Lomu plays too tall and light. Miller’s hands need work and he’s RT-only. 2026 NFL Draft: This year's deep, talented OT class could make difference in keeping your team's QB healthy (Utah’s first-round duo - This year’s class has so many talented players that two of them are coming from the same team. Utah’s Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu should both hear their names called during the first round and slide into the same roles they played in college. Fano manned the left side of the offensive line while Lomu asserted control as their right tackle. Those two routinely blew open holes for Utah’s running game and provided strong protection for the quarterback.  Lomu has the prototypical build that teams love in their offensive tackle prospects and has remarkable explosive ability to win at the point of attack in the run game. The tape bears that out, as do his testing numbers. When Spencer Fano’s arms measured just 32 1/8 inches, that set off warning bells. As I mentioned on Twitter before the offensive linemen worked out Sunday, many of the arm measurements at the combine are unusually short.  Max Iheanachor of Arizona State had an arm length of 33 7/8 inches at the Combine after measuring 34 ½ inches during the Senior Bowl. One year ago, Will Campbell’s arm length was measured at 32 5/8 inches at the combine before he hit 33 inches even during his pro day.  While Fano’s arm length will undoubtedly be longer during pro day, I doubt it’s going to be 7/8 of an inch better, so he won’t hit the 33-inch mark. NFL Scouting Combine Notebook: 10 things I trust the most about the 2026 NFL Draft after spending a week in Indianapolis (The battle for OT1 - The offensive tackle boards are all over the place, according to scouts that I have spoken to. Utah star Spencer Fano is a popular player around the league, as is his teammate Caleb Lomu. Miami standout Francis Mauigoa also has his fans in the NFL, as does Georgia offensive tackle Monroe Freeling.  When it comes to Freeling, he is the offensive tackle I feel best about being the first off the board after my trip to Indianapolis. There is a growing sentiment from around the league that he is the surest bet to be a plus starting left tackle on the NFL level, which matters. Based on what I saw this weekend, here's my answer: Although the testing results painted a picture of an athletic talent who should be capable of playing on the outside in the NFL, I think he'd best be deployed on the inside. Fano can undoubtedly move with the best of them; he cruised through all of the pulling drills with explosive acceleration and fluid lateral movement, looking the part of a guard or center who could consistently climb to the second level. I'm concerned about his arm length -- he measured shorter than Will Campbell did at this time a year ago -- and a lack of raw strength and violence in his hands. Those concerns aren't much of an issue, though, if his future employer is mainly interested in him as a people-mover with elite wheels. His arms (32 1/8 inches) and hands (9 inches) measured below the standard for NFL offensive tackles. The lack of ideal length will make it more challenging for him to get a grip on pass rushers at the next level. College tackles who had similar length when measured at the combine (Peter Skoronski, Alijah Vera-Tucker) have shifted inside to guard. 2026 NFL Draft: College Game Recaps – Week 4 (There was a tremendous draft matchup in this game with Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey taking on Utah offensive tackles Caleb Lomu and Spencer Fano. All three could go in the top 60 next April, and all three have a shot at being first-rounders. Overall, this tape was not very impressive for any of the three.  In the second quarter, Bailey got a speed rush past a tight end to cause the quarterback to step up and avoid a sack. It looked like a missed assignment by Lomu as he double-teamed the tackle rather than helping his tight end in a one-on-one against a dangerous speed rusher. For the majority of the game, Bailey was quiet and a non-factor. Bailey had limited opportunities as the Utes’ quarterback, struggling to sustain drives and throwing some painful interceptions. Late in the fourth quarter, Bailey was being blocked by Fano when Fano peeled off Bailey to go after another edge rusher who was running free and closer to the quarterback. Bailey took advantage to chase down the quarterback for a coverage sack. The next play, Fano got off balance and grabbed Bailey to draw holding penalty.  In the first quarter, Fano made a horrible mental mistake. He got too far downfield, and that negated a 69-yard touchdown pass. It was a massive mental mistake by Fano that really hurt his team. Late in the second quarter, Fano had an impressive rep on Bailey. Bailey tried to use a speed rush, but Fano cut off the corner and sustained his block to give his quarterback plenty of time to get the ball out. Just after halftime, Bailey tried running the loop around Fano with a speed rush, but Fano showed his quickness to get depth in his drop and wall off Bailey. Early in the fourth quarter, Fano paved the way with a superb block, moving his defender back and opening a running lane for a back to get into the end zone from about five yards out.  Of all three, Fano was the most impressive in terms of his physical talent. Fano is quick, athletic, agile, and strong. Lomu has good athleticism, along with quickness and agility, but Lomu has some technique issues that need to be cleaned up for the NFL to not get beaten by pro linemen. Bailey is a fast and athletic speed rusher, but he is undersized. Teams like the Detroit Lions, which are looking for a base end who is big, strong, and a tough run defender who can set the edge, will not be high on Bailey. Other teams, like the Dallas Cowboys, who like ultra-fast twitchy edge rushers, will like Bailey. None of this trio will be helped or hurt significantly by this tape.) Fano was dominant in the run game, where he generates some of the best movement you'll ever see from an offensive lineman barely tipping the scales over 300 pounds (he's 6-foot-6 and 309 pounds).  What jumps off the screen first with Fano is how easily he moves. He could pass for a tight end with how quick his feet are and how easily he can locate defenders in space. What separates Fano from the other athletes at tackle around college football is how well he uses his hands. If you pause Fano's reps midway through, it's almost a guarantee he'll have found the inside shoulder pads of a defender. When you see that already with his traits, you know you've got a great one.) Exciting draft prospects to watch in college football (OTs Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu, Utah:  Yes, these are two players and the five per conference target was exceeded. I couldn't pick whether to talk about Fano or Lomu, so both are represented. Sue me, I'm only human. These are two personal favorite offensive tackle prospects. Each has some growth to accomplish this season, particularly of the physical nature. However, there is not a more technically sound pair of offensive tackles in the nation. Fano has started all but one game in his collegiate career and four of his uncles played in the NFL.
