2026 NFL Draft Preview: The class has multiple fascinating players our staff hedges against consensus (Brandon Cisse, CB, South Carolina - Who: Kyle Crabbs, Rank: 13th.  A to Z Sports Consensus: 44th.  Cisse checks a whole lot of boxes, to me. He’s young — he’ll be 20 years old on draft weekend. He’s aggressive. He’s explosive. He offers good size and appeal in man-to-man assignments. With only 21 career starts under his belt, he’s a little rough around the edges. But I’m buying big on the blend of athletic ability, youth, and aggressiveness as a player to help him develop into an impact starter in the NFL. Boom or bust: Who are 2026 NFL Draft's high-risk, high-reward prospects? (CB Brandon Cisse, South Carolina:  In short bursts last season, Cisse looked capable of following Mansoor Delane and Jermod McCoy to become the third cornerback selected in this year's draft. At just shy of 6-0 and 189 pounds, he looks built to stay glued to bigger targets downfield. But the North Carolina State transfer still depends on his athletic tools to do the heavy lifting in college, and they might need to do the same for his draft stock.  Though his instantaneous closing speed makes him a dangerous player to test in college, Cisse too often doesn't get a bead on throws to his area until it's too late. With just 10 passes defensed and two interceptions across his college career, his sense for making a play on the ball remains underdeveloped. The bigger worry for his pro projection, however, is how easily he can be outmaneuvered by receivers who don't merely operate in a straight line. He could be a volatile presence in the early going, with repeated chunk gains given up if left to operate in zone or off coverage too frequently. 2026 NFL Draft CB Rankings: LSU’s Mansoor Delane, Tennessee duo lead the way (9. Brandon Cisse, South Carolina:  Cisse is a well-built, physical outside corner who is very raw in coverage. He’s smooth in his back pedal and has adequate speed, but his awareness and feel for routes developing is a work in progress. On vertical targets, he rarely turns to the ball and opts to fight through the reeceiver’s hands. His physicality and positioning allows him to be competitive this way, but it severely limits his ball production. Against the run, Cisse is smart, fearless and comes to balance as a tackler.  Overall, he has a lot of the traits needed in a starting outside corner at the NFL level. 2026 Pro Day: Dolphins & Bills Eye Washington WR; South Carolina DE Draws Interest From Patriots (There was a large crowd on hand for Gamecocks pro day, as the team has a pair of defensive backs expected to be selected on the draft’s second day.  Though there are no official times at pro day, I’m told that the consensus for cornerback Brandon Cisse in the 40 was 4.46 seconds and 4.42 seconds on his runs. Teams were also poking around about his health, as there were questions as to why Cisse was often on the sidelines during games. Though I’m told he looked good in position drills, this will all be a red flag for the underclassman.  Cisse was expected to run faster in the 40, as he’s viewed as more of an athlete than a football player to this point. The fact that he measured just under six feet tall at the combine and 189 pounds, coupled with speed that did not meet expectations, will likely result in Cisse being selected later than people presently predict. 2026 NFL draft questions: Top prospects, QB class, risers (Why is the race for CB1 a little more complicated than normal?  Kiper: Well, the top CB hasn't played a snap all season. Jermod McCoy (Tennessee) is No. 16 on my Big Board, but he tore his ACL in January and might miss the whole season. NFL teams will love his ball-hawking traits (four INTs in 2024), but they will obviously be looking closely at those medicals and have to weigh a full year off the football field.  Behind him, things don't get any clearer. Avieon Terrell (Clemson) is solid but hasn't picked off any passes this season. Kelley Jones (Mississippi State) shows a veru good feel for coverage, but he's a third-year sophomore, so teams haven't done a ton of work on him yet. Mansoor Delane (LSU) makes plays on the ball with six INTs and 17 pass breakups over the past two seasons, but there are questions about his true speed. Brandon Cisse (South Carolina) has had a few hiccups in coverage. Simply put, no one looks elite.  Day 1 might be tough to sort out at the position, but the Day 2 guys have some upside. 5 Draft Prospects Lions Should Scout Week 12 (CB Brandon Cisse, South Carolina:  The other top SEC corner to watch is Cisse this weekend. Cisse has one interception and four pass deflections on the year, and he has seen some of the top competition in the NCAA.  At 6-foot, 190 pounds, he has the desired size for the NFL. Currently, Cisse has been drawing first-round projections in mock drafts, with the player ending up in the second half of the opening night. In speaking to sources at five different teams, four had Cisse projected to be a late first-round or early second-round pick, and one team had him as a second-rounder. One AFC general manager said he thought Cisse would end up being a first-rounder. He plays a premium position that gets valued early in the draft.
