Ranking the NFL's top MVP candidates through 11 games: Will Josh Allen win his first? (3. Jared Goff, QB, Detroit Lions - Current odds: +650.  2024 stats: 2,492 passing yards, 20 TDs, 9 INTs, 59.2 QBR (39 rushing yards).  A month ago, Goff was barely on the MVP radar, but those days appear to be long gone. After perhaps his worst performance with the Lions in a five-interception game against the Texans, Goff authored the pièce de résistance in his MVP campaign against the Jaguars on Sunday. He threw for 412 yards with four touchdowns with just five incompletions. It was his second game of the season with a QBR over 93.  Goff isn't just winning with gaudy passing numbers, he has also been efficient this season. Against the Titans, he completed just 12 of 15 attempts for 85 yards, but three of those completions were touchdown passes. NFL Fact or Fiction: The Eagles Are a Real Threat to the Lions (Eagles are a real threat to Lions thanks to Howie Roseman’s moves - Manzano’s view: Fact. We went nearly two months without football analysts constantly raving about how good Roseman is as the GM of the Eagles. Well, Roseman hasn’t lost his touch. It just took us a while to see the results on the field.  The draft picks from the past three years and the signing of running back Saquon Barkley have turned the Eagles into Super Bowl contenders again. They have the youth, experience, depth and star power to challenge the Lions when the NFC playoffs arrive in January.  It’s been impressive to see how Roseman fixed glaring roster holes from last season’s squad with draft picks from the past three years. He’s one of the best at what he does because he adds depth at various positions to have players prepared for when it’s their turn to play many snaps. Last season, linebacker Nakobe Dean and defensive tackle Jordan Davis didn’t appear ready to be starters, but they have improved in their third seasons. Like Dean and Davis, Cam Jurgens was drafted in 2022 and contributed at guard the past two seasons, but now he’s thriving as Jason Kelce’s replacement at center.  But the Eagles wouldn’t be 8–2 without the moves made this offseason. Philly’s secondary quickly went from old to potentially being set up for the next five years with rookies Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. And veteran newcomer Zack Baun has improved a linebacker group that was among the worst in the league last season.  Then there’s the signing of Barkley, who has rushed for 1,137 yards and eight touchdowns in his first 10 games with the Eagles. Jared Goff is the NFL's best (?) quarterback, Aaron Rodgers isn't top 20 and Week 12 QB ranks (1. A suddenly dense MVP tier - 1. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions: 0.186 EPA+CPOE composite:  Goff jumped from seventh to first, owing to a thorough shredding of the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars and Jackson’s struggles vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tagovailoa had an even bigger jump, breaking into the top three from 13th place.  Are either legit contenders in the MVP race? Probably not. Goff is thriving but prone to brain fart games.
