NFL Week 11 Preview: Schedule, storylines and matchups to watch (Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Detroit Lions (-13) - Storyline of the game: Lions rolling into the back half of the season.  After its performance on Sunday night, there are questions if anyone can stop Detroit right now. Even in a game in which Jared Goff threw five interceptions, Dan Campbell’s guys rallied from down 16 to put kicker Jake Bates into position to nail a game-winning 52-yard field goal, which extended this team’s seven-game win-streak.  Conversely, an already tumultuous season for the Jags has gotten more perilous with the news that Trevor Lawrence’s shoulder injury may be severe enough for him to miss extended time. That would be a blow to an already struggling offense, as Lawrence has generated the fourth-highest passing grade in the NFL since Week 5.   Matchups to watch: Jaguars QB Mac Jones vs. Lions S Kerby Joseph.  In light of Lawrence’s injury, Doug Pederson has tabbed Mac Jones to start under center for the second straight week. In his start against the Vikings, Jones totaled just 111 passing yards to go with a pair of turnover-worthy plays, including a late interception that ultimately sealed defeat. The former first-round pick finished with just a 55.0 PFF passing grade.  Jones should tread lightly coming up against Kerby Joseph and this Lions defense. Lions WR Jameson Williams:  When he's active and involved, the former Alabama standout looks like one of the NFL's best field-stretchers, averaging almost 21 yards per catch with eight different plays of 20+ yards this year. The issue is, Williams also has a tendency to disappear in the Detroit Lions' vaunted offense, either due to sheer unavailability (e.g. injuries, suspensions) or a lack of looks behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta, logging two games with just a single catch. Chiefs, Lions showing cracks? Worse outlook: Jets or Giants? Hope for Caleb Williams? (Have opponents started to find cracks in the armor of the Chiefs and Lions?  It's hard for teams to dominate for an entire season, and the Chiefs and Lions are not immune to that fact. Both won games they probably should have lost last week, and at some point someone is going to beat the Chiefs. Seven of Kansas City's nine wins have been by seven points or fewer, while Detroit has won by an average of 17 points per game. If you're the Chiefs or the Lions, you hope the one time that you stub your toe isn't in the postseason. As former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch once said: "I know I'm going to get got. But I'm gonna get mine more than I get got though." — Eric D. Williams.  I think both teams have had cracks all along, but they've been good at overcoming them. The Chiefs have done an amazing job of surviving unscathed, and the Lions' lone loss came when they had a nightmare red-zone offensive day against the Bucs. Last Sunday, Detroit overcame Jared Goff throwing five picks. The Chiefs are getting healthier on offense, and that means they're more likely to score 30 points and take some of the burden off their defense. Detroit's defense in high-pressure situations — third down and red zone — is elite, but if the Lions lost some of that, their defense would be a question mark. QB Rankings:

NFL QB Index, Week 11: Joe Burrow vaults ahead of Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes (6. Jared Goff - 2024 stats: 9 games | 71.8 pct | 2,080 pass yds | 8.6 ypa | 16 pass TD | 9 INT | 18 rush yds | 0 rush TD | 4 fumbles.  I'm not one to make excuses, but Goff's five interceptions in Week 10 require some context. His first pick was the result of an athletic play by Jalen Pitre to disrupt a short pass, tipping it into the air for the taking. On Goff's second interception, he was hit as he was throwing, freeing the ball to get pinballed around before being caught by Henry To'oTo'o. The third came on a Hail Mary at the end of the half. The last two, however, were simply bad decisions on Goff's part. Now that we've gotten those out of the way, it's time for the good. Goff threw a beautiful touchdown pass to Sam LaPorta on a rollout in the second quarter, connected with LaPorta again during their frantic second-half comeback to set up another touchdown, and simply needed to sling the ball to Amon-Ra St. Brown on a well-timed screen to cut Houston's lead to three. Five interceptions would have sent many quarterbacks to the showers in disbelief, aimlessly searching for their elite abilities like the cleaned-up version of Rick Vaughn in the first half of Major League II. Goff is an interesting study. On one hand, he’s the quarterback of an offense perfectly coached by coordinator Ben Johnson with a plethora of great players around him including the league’s top offensive line, two excellent running backs, a star tight end and a top-10 receiver in Amon-Ra St. Brown. It’s the perfect situation.  On the other hand, Goff has shown real growth and continues to torch defenses with high-efficiency games, completing 71.6% of his attempts for 8.6 YPA. It’s an impressive combination, ranking second and fourth, respectively, among qualified passers.   Last Sunday, Goff also showed why Detroit isn’t a sure-fire bet at times. He threw five interceptions against the Houston Texans, albeit in a victory. He’s a terrific player when on schedule and in rhythm. Make him uncomfortable in longer downs and distances, and things can change quickly.  If the Lions win the Super Bowl, Goff will be above reproach. 2024 NFL QB Rankings: Insights Behind Jalen Hurts’ Rise and Jayden Daniels’ Impressive Season (11. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions - Grade: B.  Any talk of Jared Goff for MVP hit the skids hard with his five-interception game on Sunday Night Football in Week 10. Overall, his performance last week was not that disastrous, but it does make it three C+ grades or lower in the last three weeks. He is still on pace to finish with the best QB+ score of his career but has slipped back closer to the numbers we saw in 2022 and 2023.  Goff’s numbers remain good when throwing from a clean pocket, but he ranks just slightly above average when throwing under pressure and converting on third downs.
