NFL Week 9 winners, losers: Botched QB decision proves costly (WINNERS - Lions establish themselves as team to beat in NFC.  Detroit left no doubt. As the San Francisco 49ers have sputtered at times this year, this total takedown of the Green Bay Packers (6-3) – a 24-14 win – established the Lions as the clear team to beat in the NFC. Yes, the Washington Commanders (7-2) have been a revelation and a nice story. Yes, the Atlanta Falcons (6-3), Philadelphia Eagles (6-2) and Minnesota Vikings (6-2) are lingering. But no team has been more complete, more balanced – and that goes for the entire NFL, including the Kansas City Chiefs (7-0) – than the Lions (7-1).  Over the last six games, Jared Goff has thrown only 22 incompletions – a staggering mark of efficiency (he also has 106 completions and 13 touchdowns in that span). The NFC leaders are now 7-1, in part because Goff was once again uber-efficient, even in Green Bay’s rain. NFL Game Recaps: Week 9 (Lions 24, Packers 14 - The Lions were playing their first game outdoors this season. Jared Goff has a poor track record of playing in the elements, and there were plenty of elements in this game with a steady rainfall and 14-mph winds. Despite these unfavorable conditions, Goff misfired on just four occasions and moved the chains consistently.  Of course, most of Detroit’s offensive production came on the ground. Both David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs picked up chunks of yardage against Green Bay’s soft run defense. Gibbs scored a touchdown to put the game out of reach, while Montgomery was productive as a receiver out of the backfield.  The Packers, meanwhile, struggled to do much offensively the entire afternoon. They had a nice opening drive to kick a field goal, but couldn’t score again until late in the game. Love, operating with an injured groin, saw that issue pop up from time to time. He threw a pick-six when the score was 10-3 because he was under siege and couldn’t move away from pressure. There was also an instance just prior to halftime when Love completed a deep pass, but couldn’t rush to the ball to spike it and stop the clock. With Love laboring through an injury, and Detroit consistently moving the chains, the Packers couldn’t keep up in this important divisional matchup.  The Lions have beaten the Vikings and Packers on the road during the past few weeks. They’ve established control of the division after a shaky start to the season.  Love hurt his team by playing injured. SI NFC Midseason Grades: Lions on Track for First Super Bowl Appearance (Detroit Lions - Grade: A.  The best offense in the league resides in Detroit and it may not even be close. The Lions dropped more than 40 points on the Seattle Seahawks, Cowboys and Tennessee Titans and found ways to win close games against the Vikings and Los Angeles Rams. The best part of this offense is that they can break down defenses in various ways with a stout offensive line and a stacked group of skill players. And it definitely helps that Jared Goff continues to get better in Detroit. On the other hand, the Lions did take a brutal hit after the season-ending injury to edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson. But the defense is still playing freely and confidently, one of the perks of having a high-scoring offense.
