2025 Mock Draft Round Up #1

Walter football Charlie (32.  Detroit Lions: Jalon Walker, OLB, Georgia.  The Lions add an edge rusher to go with Aidan Hutchinson and Za’Darius Smith.  Walker is a dangerous edge rusher for the Bulldogs, showing speed and athleticism off the edge. In 2024, he has 49 tackles with 5.5 sacks and one pass broken up. Walker had five sacks as a rotational player in 2023. The 6-foot-2, 245-pounder is too undersized to be a base edge rusher in the NFL, so he will have to be a linebacker that rotates to rush off the edge in the sub package.  64. Evan Stewart, WR, Oregon.  The Lions could use another receiver to go with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.  In 2024, Stewart has 47 receptions for 609 yards and five touchdowns. Stewart (6-0, 175) did not have a prolific season in two years with Texas A&M, but he flashed the ability to make plays. In 2023, Stewart caught 38 passes for 514 yards and four touchdowns. After the season, he transferred to Oregon and could explode with the Ducks.) (11-29-24):  https://walterfootball.com/draft2025charlie_1.php?rbTop

CBS Edwards (32. DE Jalon Walker:  Detroit will be able to bring pressure from all angles next season with Za'Darius Smith and Aidan Hutchinson on the edge, and linebackers Jalon Walker and Jack Campbell capable of spot rushing.) (11-28-24):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2025-nfl-mock-draft-giants-raiders-thankful-for-new-qbs-in-thanksgiving-projection/

Yahoo Tice/McDonald (32. Detroit Lions — J.T. Tuimoloau, Edge, Ohio State.  The Lions could go down a few paths here, maybe adding another offensive lineman to maintain their elite play in the future. Instead we go with Tuimoloau, a tough, pocket-pushing edge player who is productive against the run and pass. He fits the Lions' personality perfectly and would be another strong player upfront with Alim McNeill and Aidan Hutchinson.) Athlonsports Easterling (32. Detroit Lions JT Tuimoloau | EDGE | Ohio State:  This is another fit that I just can't quit. The Lions need a polished, well-rounded edge defender to line up across from Aidan Hutchinson, and Tuimoloau is the perfect candidate who can defend the run and get after the passer. He would have been last year, too, but another year of experience should make him even more pro-ready, and he would benefit from opposing offenses sliding protections away from him to Hutch's side.) PFN (32. Detroit Lions Princely Umanmielen, EDGE, Ole Miss:  If it feels like we’ve been down this road before with the Detroit Lions, it’s because we have. Princely Umanmielen plays with a little more natural strength than Julian Okwara, but he wins with similar explosiveness and bend.  However, we’ve spent years waiting for Umanmielen to assemble it. While he appears to have put together a nice package late in his collegiate career, that late breakout also makes his projection at the next level a bit muddy.  64. Detroit Lions Kyren Lacy, WR, LSU:  Kyren Lacy is a lot like the Rebels’ Harris, but with even less explosive potential and with an even clearer picture given the more complete route tree he’s asked to operate. Lacy built an immediate intimate rapport with Garrett Nussmeier, to the point where the inexperienced quarterback practically started forcing him the ball early in the season.  131. Detroit Lions
Azareye’h Thomas, CB, Florida State.  190. Detroit Lions
Tyler Onyedim, DT, Iowa State  224. Detroit Lions
Akili Arnold, S, USC  247. Detroit Lions

CBS Trapasso (32. TE Tyler Warren:  How about another plus receiving threat at tight end alongside Sam LaPorta in Detroit? Wouldn't this be very on-brand for a Dan Campbell-coached team?) Walter football (29. Detroit Lions: Rylan Kennedy, DE - Za’Darius Smith was a short-term insurance policy for Aidan Hutchinson. The Lions could use another edge rusher across from Hutchinson.  Rylan Kennedy has loads of talent and potential.  64. Detroit Lions: Mansoor Delane, CBThe Lions spent a couple of draft picks on cornerbacks, but they’re still weak against the pass.  Mansoor Delane is very instinctive with nice size.) Sportskeeda Tony Pauline (32- Detroit Lions - Landon Jackson/DE/Arkansas: A quarterback at this spot is very enticing, but bringing in a tough, intense defensive end/edge rusher to play opposite Aidan Hutchinson makes too much sense.) Draft Tek (32. DE Kyle Kennard  64.
DT Howard Cross III  130. S Kamari Ramsey  194. OG Joshua Gray 226. WR J. Michael Sturdivant  249.  LB Khari Coleman) (11-26-24):  https://www.drafttek.com/2025-NFL-Draft-Team-Pages/Lions-Draft-Page.asp

PFF McGuiness (32. Detroit Lions: EDGE LT Overton, AlabamaAnother popular projection in mock drafts will be an edge defender for the Lions, who traded for Za’Darius Smith following Aidan Hutchinson’s early-season injury.  Overton is on track for a career-best season, earning a 77.3 PFF pass-rush grade so far and tallying 31 total pressures on 218 pass-rushing snaps.) Draft Network Fowler (32. Detroit Lions
Tyler Booker, OG, Alabama:  Detroit has done a nice job replacing Jonah Jackson with Kevin Zeitler in free agency, but the former is 34 and on an expiring deal. In this spot, the team adds Tyler Booker, an elite-level athlete who can distort the line of scrimmage due to his hands and powerful lower half. He's not the sexy pick, as rumors continue to connect the Lions to a pass-rusher here, but the player, scheme, and mentality fit a Dan Campbell-type of ballplayer.) (11-24-24):  https://thedraftnetwork.com/2024/11/24/nfl-mock-draft-2025-november-nfl-week-12

NBC Sports Conner Rogers (32. Detroit Lions - Landon Jackson, EDGE, Arkansas.  At 6-7, 280 pounds, Jackson is a powerhouse edge rusher with knock-back strength. He can play standing up or with his hand in the dirt, making for a good running mate across from Aiden Hutchinson next year.) (11-20-24):  https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/news/2025-nfl-mock-draft-1-0-travis-hunter-at-top-qbs-cam-ward-shedeur-sanders-go-in-top-five

SN Iyer (31. Detroit Lions 8-1 - Jack Sawyer, EDGE, Ohio State (6-5, 260 pounds).  Sawyer has the relentlessness to fit the Lions' current aggressive makeup, and Aaron Glenn would like his chess-piece ability to help well beyond the complementary pass rush for Aidan Hutchinson.) Fox sports Rang (31. Detroit Lions (8-1): Jack Sawyer, DE, Ohio StateEven before the tragic injury to star pass rusher Aiden Hutchinson, Sawyer likely would have been a favorite of Lions’ GM Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell, as he plays with the hustle, desire and instincts they crave. Sawyer isn’t the flashiest athlete — which is why some scouts see him as more of a Day Two candidate — but he’s battle-tested and dependable.) USA Today Middlehurst-Schwartz (32. Kansas City Chiefs – Tyleik Williams, DT, Ohio State:  Always hyperconscious of maximizing value throughout the draft, general manager Brett Veach could stay true to his mentality here while still filling a key void. Chris Jones is the only defensive tackle signed for 2025, and Williams can help collapse the pocket while honing his pass-rushing skills.)
