Week 12 Power Rankings

Fox sports Brooks (1. Detroit Lions - Last week: 2. Dan Campbell's squad relishes playing "Bully Ball" against inferior opponents. The Lions dropped a "50-burger" on the Jaguars, displaying the explosive offensive balance that makes them nearly impossible to beat at home or on the road. As the defense continues to improve, with young defenders maturing and settling into their roles, the Lions look like the class of the NFC — and maybe the entire league.):  https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/nfl-top-10-rankings-lions-chiefs-bills-eagles-packers-ravens

SN (1. Detroit Lions 9-1 (previous ranking: 2) - The Lions got their offense back on track at home with Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery, and the running game fueling everything for Jared Goff again. They also have seen their defense improve and make more impact plays with each ensuing game, even without Aidan Hutchinson. The loss of LB Alex Anzalone (arm) for what's likely to be the rest of the regular season will hurt, though.):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-power-rankings-week-12-lions-bills-chiefs-49ers-falcons/d05989f32bbc61c3ad79703e

Walter football (1. Detroit Lions (9-1) – Previously: 2.  What the Lions did in the second half against the Texans had Super Bowl winner vibes. They didn’t win these games last year when they fell behind the Packers and Bears late in the season, but they fought hard and prevailed. They then had a second bye week against the Jaguars in a get-rigt game for Jared Goff.  If you haven’t visited the site in a while, you may have noticed the new look. Yes, after nearly two decades, we’ve finally re-designed our site to be more modern. This was not done on a whim, but rather out of necessity because of what occurred during the 2023 NFL Draft. Our site crashed during the entire first day of the draft, which was disastrous for our revenue stream because we make more money during the draft than any other time. The site crashed because a line of code conflicted with the old format of the site, so we had to transition to this new look.  Because we lost so much money during the draft, I want to point out that you can really help support the site by paying for the ad-free version of it. It’s $7.99 per month, but you’ll get a super-fast site with no ads. My developer will be adding new features to paid subscribers as well, so look for that in the near future. If you don’t want to pay, please spread the word about the site through word of mouth. That would also be a big help!):  https://walterfootball.com/nflpowerrankings.php

Yahoo (1. Lions:  There is a big gap between No. 1 and No. 2. In Jared Goff’s past seven games, he has thrown no interceptions in six of them, and five interceptions in the other one. That was a weird one-off in a torrid stretch that includes Sunday’s perfect 158.3 passer rating.):  https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl-power-rankings-entering-week-12-can-bills-or-steelers-take-no-1-seed-from-chiefs-043741176.html

ESPN (1. Detroit Lions (9-1) - Week 11 result: Beat the Jaguars 52-6. Week 11 ranking: 2.  Preseason hot seat: WR Jameson Williams. Current temperature of hot seat: Cold.  Williams has been a huge part of the Lions' high-powered offense and might even have exceeded most on-field expectations with his stellar play as a deep threat. After a slow start to his NFL career, the No. 12 pick of the 2022 draft is the team's second-leading receiver through Week 11 (behind All-Pro WR Amon-Ra St. Brown) despite being suspended two games for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substances policy. Williams exploded for a career-best 124 receiving yards and a 64-yard touchdown against Jacksonville. -- Eric Woodyard):  https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/42468446/nfl-power-rankings-week-12-poll-2024-evaluating-preseason-hot-seat

PFT’s Week 12 2024 NFL power rankings (1. Lions (last week No. 2; 9-1): Dan Campbell says getting questions about whether to remove starters during garbage time of a blowout is a good problem to have. Here’s a not-good problem — getting a starter seriously injured during garbage time of a blowout.):  https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/pfts-week-12-2024-nfl-power-rankings

SI (1. Detroit Lions (9–1) - Last week’s ranking: No. 1. We’ll begin here to say this: I was happy the Lions throttled the Jaguars over the weekend. When I was reporting out the cover story for this year’s football preview issue in Detroit, the theme of controlling the controllable essentially saved the Lions’ franchise. Wading through the muck can seem so daunting when you consider the entirety of it all … but less so when you just focus on one step. The Lions aren’t worried about a Super Bowl right now, the team put together a plan against Jacksonville; specific plays for Jacksonville. It’s not Detroit’s fault that the Jaguars opted not to show up or stop them.):  https://www.si.com/nfl/power-rankings-chiefs-slip-lions-steelers-eagles

USA Today (1. Detroit Lions (2): With K.C. finally falling from the ranks of the unbeaten – flimsy as the champs' "perfection" was – there's no more denying Motown is currently the epicenter of the NFL universe. The Lions' +159 point differential is more than 50 clear of anyone else. Their 46-point win over Jacksonville on Sunday was the largest in the franchise's 95-season history, and the 645 yards gained were also Detroit's most ever. They're only the third team in the Super Bowl era (since 1966) to win three of their first 10 games by at least 35 points and the second since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to score at least 50 points in back-to-back home games. Good luck, Indy.):  https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/columnist/nate-davis/2024/11/19/nfl-power-rankings-week-12-chiefs-lose-lions-bills-eagles/76420677007/

FTW (1. Detroit Lions -.Last week’s rank: 2.  The Lions have a point differential of +159. They are ahead of the next closest NFL team by over 50. If you put a cupcake in front of the league’s best team, it is going to mash it into an indiscernible fine paste. At this point, it’s the Lions for the NFC title, then the field. Shoot that might even be true for the Lombardi Trophy. — RZ):  https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-power-rankings-week-12-lions-bills-eagles

PFN (1. Detroit Lions - Record: 9-1.  Offense+ Rank: 2. Defense+ Rank: 3.  Special Teams Rank: 11.  SOS Rank Through Week 11: 21. .The Detroit Lions put together another impressive performance in Week 11. We expected them to win easily, but the victory was comprehensive and exactly what you look for from a dominant team against a struggling one. .Detroit now has the league’s second-ranked offense and third-ranked defense, while their special teams ranks just outside the top 10. We should see them tested more in the final six weeks of the season, with games against the Packers, Bills, 49ers, and Vikings.  The Lions do have the chance to lay down some more markers on the road in Indianapolis before hosting the Bears.):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nfl-power-rankings-week-12-insights-2024/

The Athletic (Power ranking: 1st - Previous ranking: 2nd.  There’s no better marriage of coach and city than in Detroit where Dan Campbell has been a one-man city revitalization effort. The Lions are 23-7 (including playoffs) since the beginning of last season. They had 38 first downs and outgained the Jaguars by 475 yards Sunday. Detroit has beaten three teams by at least 38 points this season, and its point differential (plus-15.9 per game) is on pace to be second-highest in the NFL since at least 2000 behind only the 2007 Patriots, according to TruMedia. “If people got problems with what we’re doing or complaining about it, they can just come out here and play better football. That’s the only fix to this problem,” cornerback Carlton Davis said.):  https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/power-rankings-lions-best-nfl-team-week-twelve-poll

NFL.Com (1. Detroit Lions:  Beating the Jaguars by 46 at home boosted the Lions' point differential through 10 games this season to plus-159, which is currently their best mark as a franchise since 1934, the team's first year in Detroit. They're also plus-99 in five home games, one of which was a loss. That's decent. There's not a whole lot to dissect from this game in particular -- outside of the broken forearm that sent linebacker Alex Anzalone to injured reserve. I will not entertain any rabble-rousers complaining that the team should have rested its starters, because the Lions don't operate that way -- they don't play to not get hurt. Also, Anzalone's injury came in the second quarter, which began with Detroit holding a 7-3 advantage. The Lions remain the leaders for the NFC's No. 1 seed (although the Eagles are within striking distance), and Anzalone could be back for the playoffs. Look at how they've responded to the loss of Aidan Hutchinson, holding opponents to 17.2 points per game (fourth-least in the NFL) in five games played without Hutchinson. Four of Detroit's final seven games are at home, and there is exactly one more trip outside of the Midwest remaining: for a Week 17 contest in San Francisco. The Lions are on a quest, and I tend to doubt they'll be denied.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-power-rankings-week-12-2024-nfl-season

Fox sports (1. Detroit Lions:  We've got to adjust the sliders on the Lions' game of Madden, because this is too easy for them. Their 336 points leads the league — more than even the Ravens, who have played one more game than Detroit. This is the most complete team in the NFL.):  https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/2024-power-rankings

Week 12 On SI NFL Power Rankings: There’s a New No. 1 (1. Detroit Lions (+1):  The Lions took complete advantage of a Jaguars team dealing with swirling rumors of a potential coaching change. Jared Goff and the offense rebounded in a big way. A week after throwing five interceptions in a win at Houston, Goff threw only five incomplete passes (and four touchdowns) in sending the Jaguars back home with their worst loss in franchise history, 52-6. —John Maakaron, Detroit Lions On SI):  https://www.si.com/fannation/week-12-on-si-nfl-power-rankings-there-s-a-new-no-1-01jd2xv3sbx4

Fox news (1. Detroit Lions (9-1):  For the first time in the history of Fox News Digital's NFL power rankings, and likely many others across the web, the Detroit Lions are the kings. With a loss by Kansas City and a day of dominance in Jacksonville, the Lions have as much momentum as they've ever had in the Super Bowl era.  Last week: 2):  https://www.foxnews.com/sports/fox-news-digital-sports-nfl-power-rankings-after-week-11-2024-nfl-season

PFF (2. Lions:  The Lions haven’t lost since Week 2 and just scored 50 points for the second time this season, albeit against a down-and-out Jaguars squad. At 9-1, they’re now tied for the best record in the NFL and have scored more points than any other team.):  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-week-12-power-rankings-the-seattle-seahawks-rise
